Candy Dulfer joins Jeanne and Melissa on the couch to talk about how she started playing the saxophone, and what it was like playing with Prince and various other artists.
As a Dutchman I'm really proud that (Dutch) people like Candy Dulfer are bewildering the world with their awesome magic, but also can communicate with such ease in English ( also German)
I just absolutely love her sax stylings. I really love Finsbury Park, Cafe 67. I am a saxophone player and she’s definitely one to follow and emulate. One of my favorite memories of her is her playing with Tower of Power, What Is Hip. Most excellent performance. 😘👊🏾🙏🏾☝🏾🙌🏾❤️🎷🎷
You can see her live in Amsterdam this year on 2nd July, in the 'Ladies of Soul' performance at the Ziggo Dome. That's on the assumption the show doesn't cancel due to Covid-19.
@King Brilliant ignorant comment if there ever was one! Saw her in 95...Vancouver, in a club that held 1000 people... She was the best sax player in the WORLD that night.
I’ve never heard a better sax player! Shine on you crazy diamond live with her on sax is the best Pink Floyd ever was..My god she’s so sexy talented, smart and gifted..👍🏻😎🇺🇸
I have something to say here... LOL... I started playing the saxophone cause my dad also played the sax when he was growing up. Stared playing when I was 11. I am from Jersey, near the Philly area. At 13 my father and I were marching down Broad St. in Philly the New Years day parade1970....We were Mummers. I played the Alto, Tenor and Baritone all through Jr. High and High School..... Loved that instrument.
Candy Dulfer is a class act with character and enormous talent. Can't say much about her interviewers though. They came across as having little understanding of who they were talking to. Admittedly, that could be because Candy is down to earth, humble, and has an unnasuming nature. A viewer who had never seen Candy on stage perform would never get the impression of her greatness.
She is brilliant. I've been watching and listening to her music on TH-cam. I've ordered three of her CDs from Amazon. CDs, right in my soul, sax a go go and saxuality
It's now 2012. Even at 42, she can still attract concert goers in just about any continent. She's known worldwide. You don't become that by being "luke warm".
Wow, Candy Dulfer is what you define as BRILLIANT! It blows the mind the fact that she is relativity unknown in Canada and The USA. I bought her CD Saxuality, when I was stationed in Europe and I have been a fan ever since.
Van Morrison has the utmost respect and admiration for her (that means something coming from Sir Van). During her contract with Van Morrison, his band was at a high point. Pee Wee Ellis, Johnny Scott, Alec Dankworth and the others. Candy was a huge power player during those years with him. Her sound is distinct, smooth, and sexy. Thank you Candy for the amazing contributions to the Van Morrison band.
there's an interview of her meeting Macro Parker on u tube. Candy was influenced by James Brown & of course maceo played w/James. nothing like good music to lift my soul.🌟✨💫💖💗💓✌on🌎
digitalmediafan What a treat to "discover" a Jazz musician so attractive plus top talent! She seems to bring the rhythms of the 50s and 60s that got "lost in the new systems" ... We of that era yearn for more! Thanks to Candy we have a new base!
Jammed several times with Candy's dad Hans (sax) in the 80's in "The Stip" Amsterdam, never understood how he mangaged to produce this heavenly angel :-)
Errr... If you are young (born in 90's or later) - fully understood and happy you joined the "old club". If you were born in 70' (beginning of 80's too) or earlier, then I have one question to you: WHERE THE HELL HAVE YOU BEEN?! Did you not listen to radio at all? "Lily was here" was one of the most played songs of 1989-1990 and later too. Speaking about "Lily was here" - search for "Lily was here Baloise (Basel) session". To me this is the best her own interpretation of the song. Hint: go to 2:15 if you don't want to hear pre-speech, but it's still interesting to listen what she says. It is in German, though.
I tried playing a tenor sax when I was younger. I would take it with me when on a night shift and play parts of Lily was here inspired by Candy. I sold it to pay for petrol money to drive and see e girlfriend who then became my wife. She sadly and unexpectedly passed away due to cancer in Dec last year. I am thinking of getting another sax to learn again and would love to play some Candy tunes again.
I don't need to tell you, - go GET that SAX and play your late wife some beautiful music - she will hear it, and your 'heart full of soul' to her. My deep condolences over your sad loss, I hope it will make you feel closer to her.
This is an old video... but it's new to me. Candy is my favorite female Sax Player NOT playing the female card, I just love her style... she is a legitimate fine saxophonist!!! When she is funky, SHE IS FUNKY, ask Maceo Parker. When she is playing straight ahead Jazz she is a Jazzy Girl. She can do it all. I lover her... I have her cd's. Enough Said!!! By the way she can play circles around M.A. !!!!
I am embarrassed to literally love music but had not heard of Candy until today when I heard her and Dave Stewart on "Lily Was Here"... I was probably still into vocal diva Anastacia back then. (Can't lose with either one!)
I do appreciate your list, you mentioned many influential players. I have listen to quite a lot of people on it, but I do need to listen to it more. It is hard to wade through the past artists due to so many of them being great but I am trying I do love jazz, but I don't know to what extent yet. Guess I'll find out next year I'll call a truce with you, I don't know about the other people who use this account Jazz is all about listening as you said, I've benefited a lot from listening
2. Jazz is a massive canopy that is hard to define by even top music experts 3. I have a big appreciation for jazz, (which is part of the reason why I can't let it go), just stating it whether you believe it or not 4. If you wish to challenge my knowledge on Jazz go ahead You can't say you've won if you keep saying you win 5. I'm studying jazz in university next year, one of the three saxophone's to make it Granted I have a lot to learn, but I know my way around the horn
I live in Manitoba The sax instructor at the university was Jimmy Greene Amazing beast of a player I've heard that they've been trying to get Seamus Blake, because he's Canadian That would be freaking awesome
She is amazing on the Sax...would love to see her collab with Kenny G or Ronny Jordan simply amazing love her song smooth...love love love it...listen to it daily 💜
What I like the most about Candy is how she truly spotlighted the awesome female talent in pop music AND still managed to keep her feminine charm. I'm a fan. Btw, is that a foreign accent I'm detecting??
I've been listening to Candy Dulfer for over 25 years now, and she looks every bit as beautiful now as she did then.
As a Dutchman I'm really proud that (Dutch) people like Candy Dulfer are bewildering the world with their awesome magic, but also can communicate with such ease in English ( also German)
To add to your sentiment, some of the best and elite musicians are Dutch and German. She’s dynamic🎷🎷
Beautiful Candy and so talented! Priceless 🎷 too
I just absolutely love her sax stylings.
I've seen her more than 10 times ! A real star but not a blink of a diva at all !!! She is so nice and down to earth .
ABSOLUTELY LOVE CANDY! 😍 Hope to see her LIVE in my lifetime... 🤞
You can see her live in Amsterdam this year on 2nd July, in the 'Ladies of Soul' performance at the Ziggo Dome. That's on the assumption the show doesn't cancel due to Covid-19.

She is such a fantastic musician! And her band rips it up!
As one musician to another LOTS OF TALENT

I love the fact that she never plays Lily Was Here the same way so it's always a different experience.

She is brilliant. I've been watching and listening to her music on TH-cam. I've ordered three of her CDs from Amazon. CDs, right in my soul, sax a go go and saxuality
"SAXUALITY." Love it. That'd be a great name for an album!!
She's got it ALL.

Still true in her 50’s 😍
Well, I ain't fighting with anyone on this one A beautiful, talented woman just spreading her joy.
Beautiful and talented woman
What an amazing musician.
Like Prince said. " When I want Sax, I call Candy"
And like Candy apparently wrote to Prince at 17 "Ik zal ze eens een poepie laten ruiken", LOL. She played North Sea Jazz at 12.
Candy is simply beautiful & a smooth sax operator.
I love her accent. She is really cute and a great saxophone player...🎷🎷🎷🎷
She gets more beautiful with age.
