Thank you James. Your TH-cam posts are very helpful. My wife SQ4. 2014 battery died and I was able to purchase a replacement at Sam’s club. Since it is Labor Day weekend my mechanic shop was closed and I wasn’t sure about waiting until Tuesday to take it in. I reviewed your video and follow steps detailed by you and was able to replaced the battery. It is a largest battery, H8 and it was quite a handful to get it in with the strap and electrical cords. Since the battery I bought is AGM I did not need to connect the drain hose. I did connect the trickle charger using cigarette lighter plug so I did not need to reprogram the settings, other than resetting the parking brake light. Hope this information is useful to those DIY-selfers.
Thank you for your video. My 2015 battery finally gave out and the Washington DC Maz dealer wanted $780 for install. I purchased a h8agm from local shop for $220. I didn’t have all all your warnings other than the parking brake.

Did it not turn over or not crank at all??? 😢 i have 2014 and will not turn over but i can hear the starter.I even bought a charger, but every time i crank the car the batteey drains to 75%
I would try to rotate the engine with a breaker bar on the crank bolt. On my Ghibli its a 32mm socket. If you cannot turn it, the engine is locked up. Remove the spark plugs and use a bore scope to see if you can see any damage. You may not if the damage is in the bottom end of the engine.
You have to change the battery every 3 years..that Duracell is a flashlight battery..lol..I'm on my 3rd battery ..these cars have huge parasitic drains and need to be on a tender.

Congratulations on the purchase. I have had mine for almost 2 years now. Oct 27 will be 2 years. I have to be honest, the honeymoon is STILL NOT OVER! I absolutely love my Ghibli. I have had only one problem, the battery, but that was expected because it was the original battery that came with the car from the factory. It was 5 years old, so it was due to fail. I suggest you go have yours tested at a battery store and replace it if it close to the end of it's life before it strands you. Fortunately for me, mine stranded me in my garage lol.
@@sandrstudios 73k now. I put about 40 a day on it. These cars make great commuters, very reliable if you drive them a lot. They wanna run to stay healthy.
Hey James how’s it goin just back with yet another question hope you have the answer so I’m having the same issue although my car turns on it not consistent and could tell it’s not receiving enough power so I’m changing the battery I purchased a super start platinum battery from oreillys my question is does it need the valve I have the L shaped valve hose but had to buy separate didn’t come with any or the other flat plug on the side but hole for the plug looks like it’s sealed but I’m not to shure if that’s how it’s sopose to be then I’ll just swap but what do you recommend
That hose is required because it is in the trunk. That is for the gasses to be vented outside. Without it, it the gasses will be vented inside the trunk and eventually the cabin. They are poisonous to us.
@@JamesDIYGarage exactly but it has ports on Both sides but it looks plugged on the inside of you get what I’m saying I have the valve hose on the left side now just trying to figure out what to do about the other side beacuse it looks closed off already but want to be shure were or what could I use as the fitting for that port if soo beacuse it’s not a hollow hole it looks closed off
@@JamesDIYGarage I found this lil rubber like plug in my tool box right now will that work as plug that’s all it is on the positive side correct just a plug n the negative is the actual vent

Sorry to hear that. Hope you and any passengers were not injured. You will need to replace the Multifunction Control module that sits on top of the positive terminal of the battery. Then it should start. I've seen this happen on another Ghibli and replacing that module allowed it to start.
My car is giving me the same problem. It’s been sitting for a month, Jump start it with another car and lights and dashboard light up but doesn’t crank. Took the battery out , took it to auto zone and battery no good. Got a new one, installed everything. Dashboard lights up thankfully but doesn’t crank? What am I doing wrong?
I did not have to reset the maintenance wrench. When I 1st started it after installing the new battery a message displayed on the screen in the instrument cluster saying service maintenance was overdue with the maintenance wrench displayed below. So I went upstairs to get my OBDStar X-200 Pro 2 and was all setup to do another video and when I started the engine again, the maintenance wrench was gone. Lol. Like my car pranked me lol.

I didn't notice any messages in the instrument cluster screen, but the tach and speedometer did move. Is your battery the original battery? What year is your car?

Also you would need the auto windows to re-learn. Hold buttons down and pull up and keep held for 10 seconds

James DIY Garage how many miles do you have on the car? We purchased ours as a daily commuter and plan on putting 40 miles a day.

If you mean the maintenance wrench light, I used an OBD Star Pro X200. You can get them in Amazon.

You will need to replace module that sits on top of your battery. Then it will start.
I see you have the battery maintainer how did you hook up the negative side
It was installed when I bought the car. I would have go look at to tell how it was hooked up. I will do it when I get a chance and let you know.

I do not believe our cars have a purge valve per say. I think it built into the fuel vapor filter.
