    6:28 Those dimensions are helpful and thanks for that. These "in trunk" batteries are exotic in the USA and not the same as the more common batteries that go under the hood of a Ford or Chevy. Several things about the way the cables fit on top, and the hold down ears at the base, and the recessed; low profile top terminals under the carpet make these batteries "different." In addition to those dimensions you gave, you also need the terminals recessed, and the terminals on the correct side of the battery, and the positive terminal on the correct end, and you need the vent hole for the vent tube. Given all that, the best recourse when buying an aftermarket battery is to get one that is listed by the maker as compatible with your car. One time I bought and paid for the correct battery but was given the wrong one, and I didn't think to double check that. It was close enough to look good, but was slightly too big. I put that thing in the car a dozen times trying to make it fit, and double checking my purchase before I finally realized, two hours later, what happened. The good news is that whereas the first fitting took my 45 minutes, that last one took me 45 seconds.....I got good. Many places will do a free install of a battery purchase, but these trunk mounted batteries are listed as a "complex installation" and most retail places won't do that install. On BMW and Benz I always thought that was an over reaction, but this Maserati, yes, it's pretty different.

    From 7:00 onwards, he routinely cuts/skips over difficult parts, making the job look way easier and faster than it is.

    5:00 "Drain hose." That's actually a "gas vent tube." The battery is not expected to ever drain, especially if it's an AGM battery, which was factory original with my Ghibli. It will, however, routinely need to vent gas that is produced as a by product of charging. If the gasses are not vented to the outside, by way of that vent tube, they will cause corrosion in the battery compartment. Note that new batteries do not usually come with the plastic elbow for that vent tube, so be sure and retain the old one and don't break it. Also, the new battery will come with a little red plug. One side of the battery (and which side will vary depending on the model of car) gets the elbow and vent tube, the other side of the battery will also have a vent hole and that will be unused and should get plugged with the little red plug. If you don't plug it you will get corrosive gasses in the battery compartment, If you plug both sides of the battery you will get a pressure build up of gas that will result in blowing out one of those plugs, or worse, like a cracked battery and fluid leak, but I can't see that ever happening.

    Not sure how you managed to do this without removing the cable that goes to the positive terminal that has an electronics connector, on my car that cable runs across the top of the battey quite tight there is no way to lift the battery without removing it and it is not obvious how the connector comes free?

      maybe too late for you now, but for others reading this before swapping their own.... there are two 13mm nuts holding that connector down (one of them you'll already remove to free the POS cable). easy to move it out of the way after that, to take out the old one and drop in the new battery.

    Thanks for the video - made it a lot less stressful for me to swap out my battery. Maybe you can help? The battery had been changed before and the battery hold down was missing. I found another on eBay but it comes without the bolt. Do you know what size/thread/pitch the bolt is so I can get one at the hardware store?

    Thanks for the video! How did you make the maintenance key logo disappear? Because I changed my battery today and this logo appeared even though the service was done barely 1000km ago! Does changing the battery mean that you have to go to the garage to make this light disappear? Thank you

      The only way to get rid of that service indicator wrench lamp on the dash is with a fancy scanner. You can get one that will work for $150. The basic ones won't get the job done.

    Any clue as to why it would turn over and then cut off after a couple seconds?

    5:21 "Pull up firmly." With about 50+ pounds of force, something smaller people will not be able to do.

    Someone told me that you need to connect a memory saver before unplugging the battery. Did you need to use one?
    Thanks for the video very clear and easy to follow!

    • @TheLarryBrown
      @TheLarryBrown 19 วันที่ผ่านมา

      No, you don't have to do that, and on some level that's over thinking it. Any car that failed after a dead or replaced battery would be a laughing stock of incompetence from the maker. A memory save will save you the trouble of reprogramming your radio stations and garage door opener.

    So just want to confirm something, so we need to register the new battery to the car somehow? Like using OBD or something ? Used to be a BMW guy, and those cars need to register new batteries to the car computer .

      @blutsx  ปีที่แล้ว

      I have a BMW as well and thought the same... I've been reading forums and other people change the battery and everything I have seen has said you do not need to register the new battery...

    7:10 Shows one second of a one-handed battery install, then cuts out twenty minutes of two-handed sweating and cursing, then cuts back in to the battery in place.
