Hello. Great videos. They are very informative and have made me understand quite a bit about subwoofers and speakers. I’m in the process of building my home theatre and am stumped on which subwoofer to get. I was thinking about the Klipsch RP-1600-SW, thinking the bigger the better, but now I’m not so sure, especially after watching this video and seeing what the THX-1200 could do. Not sure if to go with 2 16” or 2 of those THX-1200’s? Or would you recommend the SVS PB16-Ultra?
Would you get 2 rp-1200sws or 1 rp-1400sw and add one more rp-1400 later down the line? im at a crossroad and cant decide and was hoping you could help me. love your videoes, keep it up!
Hey, have you already tested RP-1400SW along with RP-1200SW (movies and/or music)? If it's yes, how did they perform? Knob got in too much different points to match the volume?
In the US, Klipsch can be purchaes at significant discounts at time, then the value proposition really jumps. I bought a RP1600 for $999.00 ( and 2 months later, it was $899 on a flash sale). Even with the infrequent small discounts thst SVS offers, it isnt even close. CEA2010 testing shows the RP1600SW outperforming the SB3000 and being a mixed bag against the PB16 Ultra, giving up some output in the extreme low bass, but being more powerful at mid-bass frequencies. The most impressive thing to me is that the RP1600SW transient response is extremely good; pretty much equalling my critically damped 4x15" Infinite Baffle sub in my other system. This makes it easier to integrate with mains with smaller drivers or Planer Magnetic speakers.
I was initially concerned about their previous Amp issues, but after I saw the work they did on torture testing on the RP series amps and drivers ( plus upping the warranty on the amp section), I was willing to make the jump. I participate in a lot of audio forums and have not seen any reports of amp issues like their previous series and Monoprice Monolith subs a year in. I am sure they counted a small failure rate, and it seem to be OK so far. I also have a 5 yr old SVS so no gripes about them, it has been a good sub. Plate amps have to operate in a "hostile work environment", it is amazing they last as long as they do. My passive IB array is powered by a separate Crown prosound amp (+ MiniDSP for tuning). It is on year 19 and I have no doubt it will last much longer.
Hate to hear that, but 1 year in and no issues so far for me, so I will keep my fingers crossed. As long as Klipsch honors their warranty under failures, I will just hang in there; I have other subs to use in case I have to wait on replacement parts. I assuming you are talking amp failures above, not drivers.
I want to "feel the rocks". Now you have actually have me thinking about pairing a DN12 with a n RP-1200SW. I have a denon 4300 with room correction. The descend can punch me in the gut while the klipsch digs a bit deeper. And they can meet in the middle with the Audyssey MultEQ-X.
