    I have a all def tech setup in my theater. My mains are the original bi-polar towers bp2000’s with powered 15’s built in. Still going strong after 20 years. Clr 3000 for center and 4 bpvx’s for surround. All powered by NAD electronics. Will be adding the dn15 soon. Best sound for the money in my opinion!

    I now am curious to see how the big cheese DN15 stacks up. I saw the DN10s at Best Buy and I was very impressed. It was shaking the room and gave the PB-2000 pro next to it a serious run for it's money. If that's the ten inch, imagine how the 12 inch sounds, let alone the 15 inch

    • @dadevastator24_77

      I’m sure the 15 will clearly outperform any svs sub. I too did the same comparison as you and the DN10 danced around the Pb-2000 pro. Get it and if you don’t like it return it.

    I bought def techs flagship BP7000SC towers when they came out, and about 14 years later one of the towers was making a static sound out of the built in sub.
    Went back and forth for months sending parts into them only to still have the same problem. They contacted me about giving me a great deal on their new towers because they didn't know why i was still having the issue, so i said i was interested but they never got back to me even after repeatedly emailing them.
    I was so frustrated i wound up buying all JTR's and never looked back.

    • @Youthman
      @Youthman  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Pretty sure Def Tech doesn’t have a speaker that can compete with JTR.

      @@Youthman I agree. When i had the BP7000's i thought they were the greatest speakers for the money until i heard JTR's.

    Subwoofer finally sounds Awesome with Deep hard hitting bass. Just had to remove the LFE cable and use dual RCA (red and white) Onkyo crossover at 50 HZ for Subwoofer and LFE ser to Off.

      As I'm just using the Onkyo receiver for the Subwoofer (No speakers) the LFE or Dual RCA not really matter. But my subwoofer doesn't play Low frequency unless Crossover is Low. LFE was bad as 120 HZ. Dual RCA (Red & White) putting Amplifier Crossover at 50 Or 60 HZ and LFE set to Off, really brought the Deep Low bass sounds Way Better now. Ya probably missing 5-10% of the Movies soundtracks which are 80-120 HZ but I don't care about those scenes. My soundbar subwoofer will play those.

    I'm a long time DEFTech buyer. I bought 2 of these subs, as a reference i've owned the super cube 2000 and 4000. I'm using a Marantz SR8015. For some reason, I'm not getting a lot of output out of this massive sub. I've turned the sensitivity to 0db (press phase on back of sub for 5 seconds, blinking blue light, make adjustment on remote -12db/-6db/-0db.) Receiver sub out up +4, and the volume on sub up to 30-34, almost at limit, and with all of this, I get way more output from my RSL Speedwoofer 10S (350 watt/10 inch driver vs 500-1500 watt 12 inch driver on DT), and its at around +3 out of 10 in volume. My friend who bought 2 of these is having the same experience. We've both tried every phase setting as well as the EQ settings, same thing. Any ideas appreciated, before we have to return these... thanks Youthman!

      I'm having the same issue with my dual DN15's, I'm running a Yamaha RXA-1060 receiver. The DN15's were supposed to replace my supercube 8000 but I get way more output at a much lower volume level out of the supercube. I've been going back and forth with DefTech tech support for over a week now and haven't gotten any good answers, I'm thinking about returning theDefTechs and going with an SVS PB16-Ultra. Have you had any luck getting more volume out of the DefTech sub?

    • @oniiz8685
      @oniiz8685 ปีที่แล้ว

      I too have this issue with dual DN12's, a couple of DN12 reviewers have noted this, I wonder why DefTech chose extremely low input sensitivity high gain with their Class H amplifier design, it's baffling that you have to have these at full volume (40) for any decent volume, this is the response I received from one of DefTech's engineers regarding their Input Sensitivity settings, "Depending on the input, Descend DN12 Subwoofer Amp gain setting it is either 600mV (-12dB), 300mV (-6dB), or 150mV (0dB)"

  • @jonshimamoto2710
    @jonshimamoto2710 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Just a tidbit... Do NOT connect/disconnect the subwoofer cable to the subwoofer while the subwoofer is on... This will immediately fry the amplifier. The subwoofer inputs are not buffered so doing so will short the amp. Found this out the hard way with my SuperCube SC6000 and the Descend DN12. Best bet is to turn off the subwoofer and unplug the power cable for a few minutes before doing anything.

    SVS SB 2000 probably the best subwoofer for $900. But if you get the 16" sealed it has a built in Power Conditioner type unit, clean power sound.

    LFE channel is designed to be 120 HZ, another TH-cam subwoofer man said this: "LFE channel plays up to 120 hz and you need a sub playing that or things will be weird sounding". When I had the Dual RCA and Subwoofer Crossover at 40-50 HZ turn knob and the Onkyo crossover was still on, it sounded very Violent Bass for some movie scenes, scary type. But it was definitely not sounding right too. Combing both crossovers you can get 48 DB Octave crossover instead of 24.

    Cool tip! - I also have set my subs at ~80Hz.
    My bass has been somewhat underwhelming at times.
    So, I will also try cranking the sub x-over freq to the highest level available, and let the AVR take control of all it. - THANKS!

      That’s great to hear Garry. I learn something new every day as well. If you can get a calibrated microphone like the miniDSP UMIK-1 you will better be able to understand what is going on in your room. You may be sitting in a null And by moving your subwoofer a few feet, it may fix that altogether or you may have to add a second or a third subwoofer to smooth out the bass response in your room

      I couldn't agree more. I have 4- BP7004's of which 2 died after 6 years, 1 is making the dreaded humming sound and 1 is still working correctly. I also have a SuperCube sub that lasted 5 years and a ProSub 1000 that lasted 8 years. None were driven hard at all with the exception of the 2 towers that funny enough are the 2 that are still working so maybe the key to Def Tech stuff is to work them hard? ☺ ☺ I called to see if they still offered replacement amps but sadly they do not.

    You are very nice for all your Replies back to comments. Apparently I will need to use the iWoofer app for getting 20-25 HZ response. OSD Trevoce made for High SPL they not focused on Low Frequency. 93 Decibels at 25 HZ and 130 Decibels at 60 HZ is the Chart Analysis of Joe N Tell review.

      Actually i will use the Dual RCA input for the Subwoofer Crossover as it has Texas Instrument 25 band EQ digital, set the crossover on Sub to 40 or 50 HZ. Onkyo receiver i will Turn Off the LFE and put Sub crossover at 50 HZ (Can't turn it off).

    • @gtoutdoors1197
      @gtoutdoors1197 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I don't know about Joe N Tell saying you can't get 20 HZ without using DSP, the Sub is made for 18 HZ and built in EQ digital filters to flatten bass down to 18HZ. DSP just to remove the higher frequency.

    I purchased 4 Mythos One, a Mythos 3 center, and a Super Cube for $700. A co-worker was “upgrading” her home theater system. Granted, the speakers are from 2006, but I have been an audiophile since the 70s. Speaker wise, there’s not much improvement. Even newer Mythos were surprisingly issued on oval shape drivers. JBL speakers from 76 are still selling for over $1,000 and I’d love to get a pair of L65 in my hands. I love my Mythos system.

    With LFE Off on the Onkyo the Subwoofer Crossover level stays on from 40 HZ to 180 HZ, I thought i could set it to 60 and Subwoofer crossover 60, but i heard that's a big No, having 2 different Crossovers working together same time. Subwoofer Crossover must still be turned up all the way to 200 HZ as there is no Bypass or Off. I will be using LFE for now at 120 HZ, later RCA(red and white) experiment with Onkyo at 40 HZ and Subwoofer crossover all the way up 200 HZ.

      First reason is it’s duplicating the same thing. I can’t see any benefit to using two crossovers for your subwoofer. You could likely have some cancellation. Only way to know is to measure it both ways with REW

    • @danielwander605
      @danielwander605 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Definitely recommended to max out the sub crossover or set to LFE, and let the AVR handle the crossover. Also, the speaker crossover and the LFE crossover are two separate things. So even if you have an 80hz crossover on your speakers the sub or LFE crossover should be set to 120hz. That is for audio that is designated for the subwoofer channel and not being dumped on the sub from the speakers. So if you set your sub crossover to 80hz or whatever your speakers are set to then you could be cutting off information being set to the sub through the LFE channel.

    5% of Movie content is at 120HZ or the 80-120 HZ i heard on AVS forums. It's so funny how many people have different views on the settings. One guy said he knows it's supposed to be 120HZ but he tried 80 HZ LFE on his amplifier and his SVS SB2000 sounded better. Another guy thinks he's smart putting LFE at 110 HZ just below 120 to get better sound... Lol. I would just do 100 if was him. I will always have the LFE at 120 HZ now. But another TH-cam guy said i can put my Subwoofer Crossover at whatever i want when LFE on amp is 120HZ.

    Hi Youthman. It's been a while but I've seen your vids regarding the SVS PB Ultra 16s (2 of them) and the JTR Captivator RS2. I've studied the stats of both, but having a hard time deciding which would be better for me. Most of my time is spent listening to music, so the LFE with movies (where great to experience) is not my priority (and both easily meet my needs). So, with music, I listen to lots of genres but over the last couple years listening to more progressive house, techno, etc...most of which is more mid-bass than very low bass like with rap. Any thoughts/opinions you can share would be appreciated.

    • @Youthman
      @Youthman  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For music, both are excellent options. Even a pair of JTR Captivator RS1’s would be incredible. A lot of guys enjoy sealed subs for music and ported for movies. The Captivator RS1 and RS2 IMO offer the best of both worlds. High output, low extension and with 4,000 watt amplifier, they have no problem keeping up with transients

      The PSW505 is indeed a great sounding subwoofer; however the Polk subs. have a horrible track record of amp. reliability. Usually failing just outside of the warranty. Read the reviews, they're out there. I friend of mine just had his 505 amp quite just a few days ago, and I've replaced more than one amp on another friend's 505 (inside warranty). Good sound that doesn't last in the long haul.
