That is crazy! I never knew basking sharks did that !. I thought they weren't capable of such speed .
Ditto. I've only ever seen them putter around slowly almost like a zombie. But to jump up and get air? Never would have imagined.
I had no idea either
Apparently they can breach, they get up to around 20kmp. So perhaps they keep their speed a secret.
Same
@Dracco Princes Did you mean ten meters? Basking sharks grow up to around 9 meters long. These ones look far bigger than ten feet.
The primal fear when you see something that large moving that fast towards you, fascinating
I would honestly feel the same if I saw a narwhal or a sword fish coming at me in the ocean. Unless you´re on a boat there´s not a thing you could do.
But yah seeing a shark that size swimming towards you got to feel like seeing a lion or a crocodile coming at while you´re stuck in quicksand
Transhuman dread fr
It was like that video of the fish in the aquarium reacting to a flash and zooming straight into the glass. It was so fast you don't see it until it's right there. I had to rewatch it several times
@blakan1478 the only difference is while the Narwhal would escape from you, the Marlin would absolutely swim straight for you. They tend to be dicks for some reason.
I would have shat myself 😂
In my 10 years of watching basking sharks, I have NEVER seen a group this large on camera ON TH-cam. This is *amazing*.
And one of them jumped out of the water
What's with the *?

So you’re a professional basking shark watcher?
@@Mr.Blasss More like crippling addict but I'll take that too LMAO
I didn’t realize they swam in groups that big or could move that fast, wow
They are solitary. They would only meet up if krill and zooplankton are abundant in the area or if its breeding season
@@ligondesenuts769
Exactly.
@@ligondesenuts769krill is zooplankton
…They do move in herds! *~ queue Jurassic park theme song~*
Same!
This is really rare footage of basking sharks, breaching water. I didn’t realize how fast these sharks can swim if they wanted to.
I dunno man, I'm pretty sure they reach water most of the time.
Breach?
@@8menincostumeI think they call jumping out of the water "breaching"
To jump, to breach, the line between ocean and air
It mat be a filter feeder but its still a shark
@@brastionskywarrior6951 I mean whale sharks do that breach and they are filter feeders
Imagine being a sailor in the 1500s and seeing this:
There's a reason old maps just had parts that said "here be dragons" or rough sketches of weird looking sea monsters.
@@fcon2123ignorant and superstitious people; still, exciting times
They probably shat themselves
That's probably where the myth of giant great whites came from.
@Th0ughtf0rce You are right as they are both in the mackeral family of sharks. It is still a myth used today when you see a rare 40-foot basking next to a boat, and they think it is a great white or a megaladon. They have a similar shape to whites but they are distinguishable if you put the effort into looking into the differences. Problem is many people think everything online is real. This is a real video, I am talking about other videos that have appeared online often.
For centuries English sea captain’s reported them breaching in a gentle bend. Remember they grow up to 40+ feet. They marveled and wondered..were they feeding? Was something chasing them? A wonderful moment caught on video.....or a tragedy if it had landed on you. Thankfully it’s just a fantastic video. And rare to see. That’s an old sailor story there. And you witnessed it. Few believed they were so agile.
They eat plankton so I don't thunk they were feeding.
And I think this is to impress the females.
Their maximum size is about 30 feet. Amazing creatures.
It’s likely to get rid of parasites, same reason most other animals breach.
Honestly I never knew that they were agile as well😂
The only times I’ve ever seen them was when they were feeding and swimming at far slower speeds
@@AncientCreature-i2o you are correct in terms of the norm. But the largest cough was indeed 40ft
I know Basking Sharks jump high off the water to get rid of parasites but I never fully believed that since the photos and video footage of them jumping was far away that I sometimes think they mistaken it for a Great White Shark, but after seeing this video I now fully believed in this fact. The video shown was very amazing since it shows a TON of Basking Sharks and the shark was already close enough for me to confirm it was a Basking Shark. By far the best video footage of a Basking Shark I have ever seen!
Looks more like 3 Tons, PER to me.
The people have no idea the parasites find a better host in humans. The intelligent basking in glory shark.
A diver would become very popular among large marine animals if armed with a brush. (I'm not volunteering.)
@@WeightlessBallast2 Months late but im willing to volunteer!!!!
When I was young, basking sharks breaching was the stuff of legend. It was like the giant squid; something we knew existed, but could only be dreamed about being caught on camera. I never imagined that I would see it so clearly and up so close. I wonder what other impossible things I’ll see tomorrow.
Basking sharks are Lamniformes, and the closest relative of the Lamnidae makrel sharks like great whites, mako, and thresher, which are the sharks best known for breaching.
I didn't know they breached, but when you look at what they're related to most closely it does make some sense.
Yeah true, looking to an organisms relatives can often give some context or frame of reference about aspects of the organism in question
Not one bit of clickbait on this one.
Hats off to your for that incredible camera work capturing this amazing event.
10/10 camera job! People screw the easiest videos up, this was a very hard video to capture.....and you did it perfectly!
Yes kudos to the camerawoman! The UFO community needs her services badly!!
My aussie arse, who has seen easily 7+ species of shark breach, has NEVER seen a basking shark breach before. . . Thats legitimately amazing that they show the same level of playfulness as others. . . Damn nigh fucking adorable. They really are just rough skinned dogs in a 3d world lol
He's just like 'YEH, FUCK YO PRECONCEPTIONS!!! WHOOOOO!!!!'.
How can you compare this magnificent creature to a nasty dog.

SO much to process here
1. I never once in my life saw any video with more than one Basking shark, let alone this many
2. Their speed
3. The bravery of the cameraman, yes i know they don't prey on us, but a lot of gigantic creatures surrounding me in open water would give me heart attack
cameraperson, I highly doubt they're a man xD
@@dabi-is-online23 then just say camera woman
Apparently the biggest Basking shark group found consisted of over 1000 animals. So yes they can be in very big groups
I have never EVER seen a group of Baskin sharks before. They are usually by themselves. This was awesome! Especially the breach. Didnt even know they could do that.
They are basicly speed dating and will find a mate and move on
I had no idea basking sharks could be so fast

What a nice profile pic you have there
@@xeox4280 hello brother
Even basking sharks have olympic level individuals

I’m speechless. I never knew these guys could breach let alone swim that fast!
After seeing lots of videos of these guys, I would never expect them to be able to move that fast
They didn’t wanna pay taxes that’s why bro
How tf this hasn't got millions of views I'll never know
Today I learned that basking sharks swim in groups and they can swim fast enough to breach their entire body. That's insane.
Amazingly captured footage, that thing was MOVING! Never thought they could be so fast.
This is a cool shot but this is also ELITE camera work. Turning in the water and perfect tracking of the shark and great transition out and back into the water to keep with the shot. AMAZING
Wow, every time I’ve seen them they very passively cruise along like a whale shark. Very cool.
What a shot!!! That guy's reaction time and awareness to have followed it so well with the camera is incredible
Few things in life are more beautiful and awe-inspiring than seeing nature do what nature does.
Such underrated and amazing camera work here! Bravo to u sir, Ik how rare the perfect shot is especially with nature and I’m glad u can relive this awesome moment!

This is probably one of the rarest sightings in the ocean! David attenborough would have LOVED to witness this!!

@MajorGalah no compare into a whale shark, (Thy biggest fish in lee vastest oshan) and it fells bigger its mouth gives it so much mass lol.
The footage is so incredible! Such a massive creature moving so fast!
What a cute pog guppy
indeed
Are we just going to ignore that the other diver literally nearly got crushed by the shark re-entering and THEN almost got swiped by its tail??
Saw that, too. I think they were further away.
Thank god I found your comment! I just said the same thing!
How about the footage from that guy? It must be crazy.
The shark jumped between the lady and the other person, underwater things appear to be big and closer but if you pay attention, the other person wasn't underneath at all.
If you pause the video it sure looks close. It's too close regardless. No thanks. I'll stick to land
AWESOME camera work!! Play it in 0.25x and the shark is in frame the whole time, impressive!!
That was unexpected. he comes full steam from the deep doing some good jumps. Well 10/10 Basking Shark is like, that is my excitement for the day, back to normal feeding.
Imagine seeing a fleet of slow moving massive fish and one just appears out of the depth approaching you at astronomical speeds
If you pause at 0:05 the basking sharks face looks so derpy and cute
That was the most incredible thing I have ever seen. I never saw footage of a Basking Shark move at such speeds and breach the water like that, wow. I had to even slow the vid down just to capture every second. Amazing shot!
even if i was there knowing these things only eat plankton theres nothing that would stop me from shitting my pants and crying if i saw one of those behemoths barreling towards me like that. hellll noo
Basking Sharks are gentle creatures
that one Basking Shark:
The diver that NARROWLY AVOIDED getting SLAM CRUSHED by the massive breacher is now the luckiest person alive.
😂 I didn't see that till i read this comment! I slowed the video and paused it. Holy !!!! That looked really close! They must have felt the water move if not gotten pushed around somewhat. That must have been scary!
One of the best pieces of natural photography I''ve seen
Animals can always correct us by the way we see them like this for example. It's so fascinating how we learn something different from animals 😄
That shark was waiting for that moment his whole life lol
0:02 is the shark on the left marked? What is it on his top fin?
I think it's a tag. Good eye.
Imagine snorkeling with 30 ft sharks and one decides to go full air bud....I pooped my pants for the both of us.

Incredible footage and camera work. Thank you for this glimpse into nature's beauty.
I never knew basking sharks could breach outta the water
Man’s just getting his cardio in for the decade
I didn’t know basking sharks breech. This was an awesome catch guys well done. He gets his entire body out of the water. It must feel weird to them to go from the pressure of the water to the gravity in the air. I thought that basking sharks were huge. Do they attack people? Very interesting Thankyou.
No they are completely harmless to humans.
They can slam you if you are in the way of them jumping, other than that they do it for clearing parasites off or simply just checking the environment like orcas apparently, they can spy hop.

hopping out of the water like that may be a way of getting parasites off.
Amazing
I had no idea basking sharks breached, or even moved that fast. They're usually just cruising along in slow motion. Awesome video!
Speaking of rarely sighted sharks, what's going on with the megamouth sharks.
Oh nothing.
They're not classed as under threat. But that's also because they're so rarely seen. So we don't know enough about their threats.
They're deep-sea sharks. Which is why we hardly see them.
@@pierrebegley2746 best chance we would get to encounter them is during night time because that's when they follow vertical migrations and feed on bunch of planktonic fauna
They have bioluminesence in their mouths so thats something and they're the third largest filter feeding shark. Uhhh yeah :]
@@Thylacinuscyno that's debated, it's believed they don't produce but reflect the biolumenescense of plankton, they have a special white patch on their top jaw area when feeding its exposed and thus it reflects the light of planktonic organisms which attracts them to the source, atleast as far as I understand
Social media even has basking sharks showboating 😂
majestic creatures.....and we steal their teritory and build bombs that kill when we should apreciate nature and what we have.
