Scientists spend a month or maybe 2 on the water and think they know everything. Your local guides and avid fisherman have a better understanding of your local ecosystem than any scientist.
No. Marine biologists devote their entire careers to understanding ecosystems through application of the scientific method. One man's experience shouldn't be translated into a condemnation of science. He probably saw it, and his reasoning is sound, but he has no hard proof. I live with farmers here in the WV mountains who think they know more about water protection than scientists. Their practices and the evidence proves them wrong. I've experienced the same defensiveness from sportsmen.
@@tonybarnes3858 I understand where your coming from. I should have clarified. I won't dispute scientific method. I'm speaking more to just pure observation when I've been told this animal or insect doesn't exist in an area when there is photographic evidence.
That's why good scientists are always open to possibilities. Good scientific method works with lay people in the industry of the scope of their research (eg, tag and release projects). It is definately narrow minded to rule out the existence of submarine simply because you, yourself, have not seen and measured it. At the same time, scientific skepticism should be good motivation to try log observations with more evidence and scientific rigour. I, personally, would LOVE to see credible footage of submarine instead of artistic recreations.

Yeah I bet there's some big sharks out there, clever and wise as f**k too. There's probably hidden islands with huge wildlife activity, perhaps even ancient plants and animals. I need to build a submarine.

Yeah. I have heard about 'Deep Blue' too. Deep sea divers and huge shark advocates Ocean Ramsey and her husband mention this shark a lot of times in their posts on IG.

Been gamefishing off the east coast of Australia for 35years...i can confirm his words. I have seen for myself a massive white that came up our burley/chum slick and passed right underneath our boat and looked like an aeroplane. I thought i'd seen it all but i was petrified. This was mid 1980's but I remember it like yesterday, i was up on the flybridge and could hardly speak i was so shocked. We have tagged 600kg oceanic tigers, 400kg mako's and seen a number of 4.5-5m whites, but never have i seen anything like this one, nor since. My guess was 21-22ft. When you see a 15-16ft white it is jaw dropping how big and the girth of it, so i will never dismiss a report of a 7m white...certainly not from Australian or South African waters.

When I was a kid in the 1960's we constantly saw a Great White at a snapper fishing ground off South Australia called Freds Ground, named after this pointer. He'd come alongside the boats, sometimes bite outboards and he was well longer than the 18 foot boat I was on
Big Fred...when I was diving over the West coast near Ceduna a mate o mine was working on the Marmeena and him and the skipper said they'd pulled Fred up in a net but couldn't get him aboard ...he was a monster!!

Vic hislop caught a twenty footer back in the 80s they are out there
On Shark Week one of the shows is about two big male Great Whites between Australia and New Zealand somewhere. Both bigger than Deep Blue. One named Scar for a big open gash it had above or close to an eye which had almost completely healed when they seen him at this filming and found out he had grown a few feet making him equal in size to the other one. The other one may have been named Big Fred as in the same shark you mentioned or after him. Both were about 23ft to 24ft long and dominant/aggressive as could be around food.

I am sure you have seen such a shark. My late father saw sharks back in the 1930's in Jamaica--the ship on which he sailed was the Jamaica Planter, and I think it was owned by the Hadlee shipping company.
Anyway--in Jamaica the local fishermen brought in a huge shark. Apparently they turned up every twenty years or so--and they hauled this one up using a crane, and tied it to a beam across two trestles. The trestles were twenty feet high, and there was plenty of tail still on the ground. I think my sister has the photograph, but this is the good part.
My father was photographed sitting in a Chesterfield lounge chair INSIDE THE SHARK'S MOUTH, and the top teeth still were above his head, and his feet were resting on the bottom jaw.
So I am certain you are correct. Big sharks DO exist--they are probably more common than we imagine them to be.
I would love to see these photos! I am so fascinated and scared of sharks.

The ocean is enormous. Just because we haven’t seen something doesn’t mean it can’t happen.
Just think about what's out there . We have explored space more than our own oceans . Think about Challenger Deep or the Marianas Trench . It's hard to tell wtf kind of huge animals is out there . And remember not long ago they thought the giant squid was a myth until that scientist actually filmed one , lol . So we ALL need to be open minded about the possibilities of giant Sharks out there ! 👍🦌

Colossolal Squid were a myth, until the Japanese filmed them about 15 years ago.
Bad and stupid analogy: Giant squid carcasses were found ashore and inside the innards of sperm whales more than 200 years earlier, and were classified taxon. We knew they were real and had tangible evidence, we just didn't see them alive until 15 years ago.
You got to be really young. Us over 30 years old can remember very well all the documentaries and academic info talking about giant and colossal squids since the 90's and far earlier. No one denied their existence.
This submarine jaws, on the other hand...we've never found a great white that big and there's no tangible evidence they can get that huge.

@@stephenhollinrake4919 You refuted yourself: Giant crocs were known to be real cuz they were hunted and we got to measure them. This kaws on the other hand...the largest ever caught was the Malta speciment, which was only 23 1/2 ft long.

The colossal squid (Mesonychoteuthis hamiltoni) and the giant squid (Architeuthis dux) are two different species of squid. The colossal squid was first discovered and described in 1925. You first discovered that the colossal squid existed just before your edit.

Yes, I have seen a Tiger in Moz that was 7 plus meters. Bigger than the 6m boat I was skipping. Experts said largest was about 6m. So yes, what you say can definitely be true.
An old mate of mine who was a pro fisherman all his life told me he saw a great white he called the submarine 30ft+ off Coffs Harbour in Australia

My old man was crayfishing in the early 60’s. He swears black and blue that a GW came alongside their 30ft boat two times in one day off the Abrolhos islands as they were changing baits. He said it was longer than their boat. He said he grabbed the wheel house as he felt like he might fall overboard…

My father was an abalone diver in South Australia in the 60s-early 70s. He is completely unsurprised someone claims to have seen a 7m white.
We don’t know your dad, so that means absolutely nothing to us. My dad was a bricklayer in the port of antwerp between 1975 and 1984, and he is completely surprised by a 7 meter shark.

1. South Australia is home to many large whites.
2. His father was an abolone diver, which men’s he was in the water regularly.
3. It’s implied that he has seen at least 1 massive shark personally, so the idea of a 7 meter great white is not an unbelievable concept to him.

-the op doesn’t claim to have seen a submarine himself,
-he doesn’t claim that his father has seen a submarine,
-he only says that his father is unsurprised by such a claim,
-and the descriptor that his father was an abalone diver a long long time ago is meaningless since the existence of a submarine is unrelated to the unsubstantiated opinion of an abalone diver who doesn’t even claim to have seen one, only that he wouldn’t be surprised if they did exist. It’s just as meaningful or meaningless as the unsubstantiated opinion of my father the bricklayer who has never been in the water.

My Grandfather was a professional fishermen all his life out of Port Fairy , Victoria , Australia ... There's a seal colony on an island 12 miles from Port Fairy called Lady Julie Percy Island , and there used to be a great white hanging around called Big Ben , he was called this by the locals and he was 25 - 26 ft long .... my grandfather reckons he also seen one that was 27 ft long.

I was off the east end of Catalina on a 24ft Sea Ray, we cruised for 20min next to a white the same size as the boat, this was 30yrs ago when they were very rare, last year a friend was at Anacapa and videoed 2 separate whites attacks on seals in under 30mins, juveniles are stacked up in the bay, if you fly a drone off Malibu you will see at least one and 6 to 12 is common, I’m sure there’s subs there, plenty of em🤙🏽🏄🏻♂️
Manresa, La Selva in Monterey Bay is the same now......lots of juveniles and big sharks all the time now !

I was born in 1967 and when I was a child in the late 70s or early 80s the Guinness Book of World Record had the longest documented great white shark ever caught at 38 feet look it up
I believe they just don't reach that size anymore because of competition with humans for food and them fuckwads that keep hunting sharks for bullshit ass sharkfin soup. Otherwise, the oceans would be teeming with these great and majestic creatures that are allowed to grow to their true size.

That has been debunked. It was never caught only was stuck in a herring trap for a while, and is now believed to be a basking shark.
A 36 foot GW shark claimed caught off Australia turned out to be only 16 feet long when the jaws were measured. It was just a recording error

We also have seen a 7 metre white by greenly island on the west coast our boat was a 8 metre cat this shark just fell short of the length of our boat we will never ever forget this as we’ve seen many whites fishing for tuna around there and the Neptunes but never anything like this

You could work at sea for 50 years and still not see everything that's out there. If several pro fishermen in South Africa claim to have seen a 30 ft shark, who the hell am I to say they haven't?

The real submarine lives in Australia, mate. It ate the honeymoon guy at Julian Rocks off Byron Bay. Friend of mine said smacks of blood and water were geysering 20 foot in the air as it had at him. Then they hooked it on a fishing line, and when it spewed him up they cut the line to recover the body. Except it wasn't described as a submarine. They said big as a VW combie. I saw it flapping around later near Hastings Point, but it sure as hell didn't look like it was dying to me, like people say. When I saw it, it was hunting mullet. V dub bus was understating things, I reckon.

June 1993. You know, sometimes things used to eat my dad's berley pot off Cook Island, near Fingal. Like swallow a whole steel cage covered in chicken wire a metre wide by a foot tall, what he used to stuff with pilchards and drop to the bottom to stir up snapper. Have to cut the rope. One time I paddled out at Backbeach Fingal alone, too, for a surf. Only guy on the beach, dark day, 15 years old. Last wave I had to duck dive to get out the back, I saw another shark like the Julian Rocks one come straight over. Massive doesn't adequately describe it. Huge bristling teeth. I caught that wave in, needless to say, and the paddle over the deep gutter near the shore was so frightening. As soon as you get in the ocean or river anywhere, you are in the same body of water wherein monsters dwell. Comforting thought.
Did you actually see the shark from that 93 attack? How can they be sure was same shark? Apparently it bit free of the steel fishing cable after an hour & a half struggle! They couldn't shoot it either! So probably wasn't half dead like they say
We had a white called big fred off our south coast growing up and was well known to all fishermen . Fred sad hi one day as Dad was pulling the anchor , I was at the back and my uncle told me to tell him when it was level at the back. When I yelled out Dad said bloody hell as uncle built the boat and she was 18 1/2 ft and Dad said it still had enough on the boat and I knew they were terrified . . What shocked me was the girth of the thing as it went past and turning on a dime came back on its side for a closer look . It's one of those things that you must witness yourself to truly understand because nothing else compares.. I have seen 4 since then the largest 15 ft an impressive size shark but dwarfed in size by big fred. .. Craig im with you on this one man , but some people wouldn't believe until they have a Chief Brody moment all to themselves and want a bigger boat .
Ha ha! I have never swum in the ocean after seeing Jaws. What was it a 25 footer? Jaws 2 of course upped the ante and added another 10 foot or so made the shark female (the females are bigger according to the trailer) and also a Killer Whale killer which is a little OTT. Probably the earliest woke film ever, at least for sharks :)

I remember Discovery Channel did a show during shark week several years ago about Submarine, I was all in it man, until it sunk their barge and giant buey, then sunk the boat, the head marine biologist had to dive down in the dark dodging a 35 ft GW to save the people trapped in an air pocket in the sunken boat. I was so pissed that DC tried to portray that BS as a real scientific documentary. I swear I’ve seen the same actor that played the biologist on other DC shows about Mermaids
Well in the 50s 60s and 70s they were hunted so much they never got the chance too grow bigger than 22 or 23 feet now that they have not been hunted heavily the last 20 years and no one is killing off there main source of food and thffeyve stopped clubbing seals, I believe a 25 to 30 foot great white is entirely possible in todays oceans

Deep Blue is a female great white that is estimated at 6.1 meters (20ft) long discovered off a Guadeloupe island off the coast of Mexico….also discovered to dive much deeper than ever know to go….then seen a few years later feeding of a whale carcass, in Hawaii….where they then discovered another estimated 20 footer…

It reminds me how scientists and 'experts' said there were no such things as rogue waves. Since then it has been shown that they are actually relatively common.

Whether one has 'evidence' of something (existence of an animal, or a phenomenon etc) or not is actually irrelevant to the fact of whether or not it actually exists. So, this shark may well exist. Not having hard 'evidence' it exists doesn't mean it isn't swimming around. Equally, perhaps it doesn't. I am open minded. However, I was pointing out that the evidence has a way of getting up to speed in the end.
@@lechatel while i fully agree with your second post, in your original post you were also having a rather cheap go at scientists and ‘experts’ (you realize the fisherman in this video presents himself as an ‘expert’ as well right). At least scientists approach it from a scientific angle which by design allows for correcting mistakes. This is much more preferable than the good ole’ ‘believe me i or my father saw it’ (claim of certainty) or ‘let’s keep an open mind’ (acknowledgement of uncertainty but often misused so to not have to cave).

I have seen way too many examples of scientists who have a singularly un-scientific approach to their studies. In that they provide the bias their sponsor wants, or err on the side of the view that will gain them...rather than debar them from....a 'research grant' from one of the Billionaire Philanthropists aka greedy megalomaniacs. I have seen The Science cast in the guise of a religious cult during this pandemic. Where any questioning and enquiry and scepticism (the foundation of true scientific investigation) is ridiculed as Heresy. You mention 'let's keep an open mind' as some sort of weak excuse. On the contrary...if only science and research DID keep an open mind these days.
First rule about going after alleged giant sharks, always get the biggest boat possible.

Idk why anyone, let alone a scientist would argue vehemently against there being a shark around the size claimed. Great Whites can technically continue to grow until they die, the only issue is 1. staying alive for long enough to reach such a massive size and 2. having a consistent, significant enough food source once at a very large size that will allow them to continue to grow. Its not only much easier for a Great White to reach say...15ft long because it requires less amount of time, but also because it can grow to that size feeding off many different things in many different areas. But provided one can live for long enough, I would assume that these huge sharks are able to grow so large because they spend a lot of time in much deeper waters, and find areas where they can feed on large pelagic fish that dive deeper in the ocean off shore. And if theres anywhere that a shark could get to that size it would undoubtedly be in the waters off of southern Africa and the Indian ocean, as well as the deep waters outside of Australia. The 4.4m bull shark and that 20ft female great white dubbed "Deep Blue" are proof that enough time, and food will result in a massive shark, and with time comes wisdom, those sharks didnt get to that size without learning how to stay alive, and find enough food to sustain themselves by being smart.

I went deep see fishing once and saw with my own eyes shark this size. It came behind the boat and turned motors off. Then came within 1M next to the boat , I have never seen such big eye on a shark, boat was a 22 footer and when its head was at front of boat , tail was still 1m to go to back of boat. It just came up next to boat and then went down into the deep.. I believe there are bigger sharks out there. We were 50Km out to sea from south coast Rocky Bay South Africa.

One guy saw sumerine come up and go under the boat estimated him to be 35 to 38 foot in length. He went home and sold his boat he was to scared to go out there again

Query. Is it the Submarine or is it Deep Blue? There has been some Mockumentaries from Discovery Channel dramatizing Submarine and its behaviors including sitting still in the water etc.
Craig is talking about the Submarine, a South African shark. Deep Blue seems to work between Hawaii and Gaudalupe.
Yeah , I remember that ? Submarine stayed vertical waiting on that 14 year old boy and he took the boy . I seen his older brother comment on the attack . The 14 year old boy was never found . With a White that big he was probably just a snack until his big meal was ready !

As far as I know Submarine hasn't been spotted since the 90s.
She was estimated at 50 to 70yrs old.
Big Blue is a more recent discovery and shes fairly reliable about the places she hangs out, so shes been easier to study.
Theres quite a bit of footage of Big Blue.
Shes said to be around 50yrs old.
20 to 21ft.
Shes girthy, estimated over 2.5 tons.

My neighbour worked for the sea fisheries and attended to a beached whale at Smitswinkel bay near Cape Point. He said there were 12-foot whites feeding on the carcass when the submarine appeared and dwarfed them at twice the size.
at the entrance to Outer Harbour breakwater South Australia 2010 i saw a submarine go under my jet ski whilst drift fishing for squid.. wasn't a submarine cos a fin broke the surface
We know they exist because they showed on the news all over the world a 26 ft great white shark on video and they could measure it because it was near a boat that was about that long and they could measure it.
Considering science has only seen 2% of whats in our ocean, I'd believe this man!
What about the 9foot GWS that was tagged with a satellite information tag...and was subsequently eaten by a much larger shark...it showed it unequivocally when the tag was found..
@@stecumo6459 doubtful because Orcas only eat the liver ...the dont consume the whole shark..plus they are intelligent enough not to consume a satellite tag which is on the external fin of said great white...the tag had to be consumed to gather the temperature reading it did...it was swallowed whole not picked apart..Orcas dont swallow things whole

I have his father's book Shark Man. The consensus is that the Submarine was circa 7 metres, so about 23/24 ft. Definitely not 30 ft or more.

Yes huge drop in population and they're not sure why. Some Orcas have moved into the area and they're trying to determine if its the cause or just one of several causes.
Depends on the biologists/experts that are quoted. Like any industry or field of study, there are people who are narrow-minded and think they have all the answers, and there are those open-minded and are accepting that there are undiscovered variants of existing creatures out in the wilds. Especially considering the ocean, in which only 5% has been explored. Deep Blue is the largest great white ever filmed, but by no means is it probably the largest great white that currently exists. Every animal species has its oversized versions, including humans. Look at strongman competitors, basketball players, pro wrestlers, etc. A 25' foot great white shark isn't much of a stretch.

We have hardly made a dent into what we know in the oceans,so we making presumptions based mainly on sharks relatively close to shore.
Therefore it is not unreasonable to assume there are 25 foot plus great whites out there feeding on huge tuna,other sharks,whales etc.
Think it is logical and there have been enough sightings by experienced fishermen.

The Submarine was measured as near as can be for a living shark. It swam right next to a 6 metre ski boat and was at least a metre longer than the boat.
Bite marks on whales and humans measured by competent professionals indicate great white sharks in the mid 20s.

Exactly the same thing happens with crocodiles. So called 'experts' say they max out at 23 feet.Both the saltwater and Nile crocodiles get much bigger than 7 meters.

Well, I can tell you this much: they live bloody long lives if left alone. I saw a 100 year old (estimated) croc called Charlie in the early 90's. He was a BIG, LONG bastard.

My dad and his friend fished a lot in Fallsbay in the late 70s and early 80s. His friend was a pro fisherman and every time they went out the shark visited their boat.
I cannot remember the size of his boat as I was about 10 years old but it was not small and was towed by a 5l v8 Ford.
That shark was the length of their boat and would always bite the engine props. When that shark appeared, they stayed for another hour or two as it would take their catch clean of the line. They said it was a feeling on the rod that was just different from other sharks taking the catch.
My dad did not take photos, but his friend did. He gave my dad one, but I can not find it, and I have looked from left to right and top to bottom, and I unfortunately cannot find it.
Go and speak to the fishermen from the Cape Coloured community, they regularly see Great Whites that are all a lot bigger than the standard...
Heard two stories over the years about the submarine. One was from fisherman that had sighted it on a few occasions and decided to catch it to prove their case. The first occasion the used a steel cable and hook attached to a 45 gallon drum. No luck. Second attempt, they used two drums, didn’t work, third time they used 3 drums. What ever took that bait pulled all three drums down and when the drums eventually surfaced the cable had snapped. Now we all know fisher can exaggerate so let’s go to story number two. I’ve spent some time with people that were in the South African navy and quite a few of them have told the same story of being out at sea on patrol or during hide and seek and destroy war games with subs and they have picked up moment on their sonar of something around 15-20 meters in length. This turned out not to be an actual navy submarine as first thought due to the location given by the actual submarine and also the speed and manner in which it moved and disappeared off their sonar. I’m with this guy on his belief that it exists and others like it. Because we haven’t caught it and measured it doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist. Far too after have we make this arrogant mistake. Myth , legend , truth and fact, does it really matter . We know so very little of what’s in the ocean , never mind what lurks deep down below. Chances are we might never get to know , but what is known is that we know way less about what’s there than what we have already discovered that exists there and that’s only surface of a very deep dark ocean.
I've seen massive sharks in the Caribbean while in Navy. They were attracted to us firing air slugs out of torpedo launchers. We had a fish call and caught a 5ft Remora. I personally seen a 20ft plus. Had to have been a white.

In other words he determined the species because of the size, not because he recognized it as a great white. So it's perfectly reasonable to remark that great Whites are not the biggest sharks out there. Basking sharks and whale sharks are bigger... Wise men say...only fools rush in...

I don't think any scientist would say a 7m white shark is impossible, they have to keep an open mind. They might say that the larger the claimed size (beyond the largest verified size) the less probable it is of being true.

Seems the colder the water, the bigger the shark. I live in Washington state and even though the water temp will send you into cardiac arrest without a wetsuit, I'd never be swimming out there regardless.

It was actually 1987 and yes it's the biggest Great white ever caught. 7.14 metres and 3 tons off the coast of Malta

in 1975 I was Fishing Tuna off a BaitBoat Barbara H , we were near the 415 Fathom sea mount we had a very good 3 days , finishing off 8 wells or 80 tons I was the engineer at time, I was pumping the blood from fishwells to dry up to start Prine Refrigeration. While standing at Rail midships a Great White came up alongside starboard side and held for a minute - I estimated he was half the length of Barbara H, she is 80 ft LOA. I looked around to see if Mexican crew witnessed this monster, had to be at least 35-40 ft- the fleet that day where calling around too see if anybody else had seen this monster, yep, by the way school fish disappeared that day , out trip ended after that day , we had 80 tons so had a nice trip in.I know they exist , had other sightings of sharks and sword fish for the record books

When I was fishing off cape cod Massachusetts on a 50ft boat in late 80's a great white passed us 20 ft away more than 5 to 8 ft bigger than the boat nobody could believe there eyes. None of us spoke about it 😒 or the locals would have marked us as crazy.

I grew up in 80's fishing with my dad and brothers in our dingy off the coast of Hangklip and Fisherhaven and everytime my dad and uncle would bring up the subject of "Die Duikboot" (Afrikaans for The Submarine). Always in the line of passing a 20 foot boat with tail fin one side and head other side of boat. Guess that beast are still alive then? Could be a couple of them? Reckon anyway there's bigger fish in vast ocean....

This was late 70s/early 80s when most people didn't carry cameras with them. The circa 7 metre Submarine was seen by a number of competent eye witnesses.
I respect the guy who is in the water with these beautiful animals. This guy is just talking straight...no political correctness and no bullshit.
Thank you for that clarification... I still believe... 30-35fts do exist... the reason we don’t see them is for the same reason we don’t see large crocodiles. They have been around people long enough that they know how to hide from us.
