Love seeing strategy with gunpowder infantry! Playing WH3 with gunpowder feels like all i do is lord snipe single entity. Thanks for doing FoS disasters, Legend!
Small tip for all yall FOTS players; research "Suppressive Fire" tech, this gives Line Infantry an ability to greatly increase rate of fire at reduced accuracy. Thats why you combine foreign veterans into your armies for exp training and accuracy bonus. Using "Ganbatte" and "Suppressive Fire" at the same time make the basic Line Infantry into stack wiping monsters.
The General having read "Napoleon in Egypt. Prepared hoping the enemy would duplicate Murat Bey.."Ganbare (頑張れ) or ganbatte (頑張って) is a Japanese phrase that means “Come on!” “Let's go!” or “Go for it!” in English
After playing through the whole Yakuza series and being told by basically every companion NPC to “Ikuzo!” I assume that’s more the equivalent of “let’s go!” So I think “Ganbatte!” is more like “Go for it!” or “Good luck!” Sort of an encouragement to do well. Also I remember the Japanese name of the Goemon games was something like “Ganbare Goemon,” which was sort of like “Good Luck, Goemon” in English. Though obviously, picking up the occasional Japanese word from video games is hardly the best way to learn the language.
a) Nice cost effective army setup. Also the difference between experienced and non experienced troops can be staggering. Also noticed myself how 5 Parrot guns are a good number, 4 feel just a little bit not enough and 6 feel too much. :) b) Now another question for me is for FOTS because of artillery : could it be more advantageous to actually allow large army size since that means all their troops will on top of each other and closely bunched more often like and you can batter several regiments with more easy, even though this time you have no choice since being a defender. :)
WH3 CAN be gunpowder total war with the right factions. Nuln and Masters of Innovation can run very funny gunpowder armies. I think Chorfs can too, but I haven't played them yet. My favorite way to play the game.
I glad you enjoyed this battle. I actually tried that battle one time after sending you the save file. Surprisingly, the game gave me another map with one smaller hill in the middle. Technically I won that battle (lost 2k, kill 10k), however game did not let me finish battle, and I had to accept defeat. It is sad that CA doesn't fix old games, especially such master pieces like FOTS.
I've learned more about these older(ish) total war games from watching these videos than I've known about any single game ever and somehow I still learn more every video...(i've played total war for years but I never got good enough to play on legendary) also I didn't even know you could kill the general so fast it wouldn't pop up the notification....that was GLORIOUS
I really hope you don't quit doing FoTS battles from time to time even when playing other tw games. I enjoy playing wh3 but you made me realize how good the historical games used to be.
I remember I had a 19 slot army of fully upgraded gatling guns. It was hilarious because they'd mow down 9/10's of the enemy army before they even got into range. (fully upgraded means with a firing range and one of the armorer provinces fully upgraded for accuracy). They were expensive af, but I could be attacked by 4 different full slot armies and still come out victorious. It was glorious.
good idea for a video would be to put a disaster battle up online where other people can attempt to win it, then you could go through their videos, and then you do the battle!
There´s an awesome song by Sabaton titled 40:1, i REALLY recommend it to anyone who likes either symphonic power metal or history. It´s best if you like both.
Probably got ballsy cause he's got 5 artillery, and you could usually deal with a lot of outnumbered scenarios with that. Seems like he just wasn't prepared for forest battles and wasn't able to snipe the generals to make the enemy rout faster.
You can smoke pretty much anything given a solid enough Frontline and enough artillery. Unless forests... Forests really limits the usefulness of artillery unless deployed appropriately.

Do you have more bullets than they have men 3rd one is who is attacking lol God is Good when he grants me defensive battles on unfavorable numbers with gunpowder units or any of thek
It is its own game, but I've heard that if you buy fots before shogun 2 then you can't buy shogun 2 afterwards or smt (cause fots is technically a dlc of s2 so steam thinks you've already bought it). Don't know if it's been fixed but be careful
Does shogun 2 notify you more than once when generals die? Could be that- actually due to how xp is allocated maybe only the first general even counts properly.
Day 4 of asking LegendofTotalWar to do this challange "Here is a challange that might be nearly impossible: Play fall of the samurai, play as Aizu, you cannot change to the imperialists, you can only use traditional units, has to be at development 1 (default) and not increase it, you have to do a full conquest, has to atleast give time for the enemies to get modern guns, IF you manage to win you can indeed proof that samurais were far from being obsolete, goodluck!" You will need it
he already say that traditional only campaign is not fun, because you gimp yourself not having artillery (and artillery are gods in fots) except you have rule that you can use artillery but need to be captured from the enemy. maybe that can be fun.
You need to have at least 1 ship in a "fleet" of any kind and move your army into it at a port. A full 20-stack can fit on a little gunboat. You can only fit a maximum of 20 units in a given fleet; if you have more than 20 units, you have to make more than one army and put it into more than one fleet. Works the same in base Shogun 2.
Not gonna lie, these "I have lots of artillery and the AI has none or just one or two" Battles getting boring. It doesnt really matter if the Player is outnumbered or not. If the player has like 4-6 artillery units and decent gunpowder units he is gonna win anyways. The only decision the Player has to make is where he deploys his units.
Of course he is going to win. These videos are informational. Positioning is everything in this game and these battles show in great detail how to properly do it. I have learned so much on how to correctly use the terrain.
@@ordohereticus5530 Just my opinon but i wouldnt call FotS a great game to showcase or learn about positioning. All you do is sit back with your gunpowder/artillery units and barely move them. Basicly you just wait for the AI to suicide Charge you. Games like Medieval 2 are way better for this.
Honestly the amount of Shogun 2 is getting way overdone at this point. All of the battles are the same. "Use your artillery to kill most of the enemy forces. Still not sure how people can't win battles like this. They're against almost pure trash with a much better army, with artillery vs none. As shown the AI doesn't even try to utilise its ranged units.
