      It only happens if your army stays still for a whole turn and then gets attacked by the enemy. You rarely ever get to use them because you can move so far on Shogun 2 an enemy army is usually within range before the conditions are met. I'm almost certain another game has this exact same mechanic Empire and Napoleon?? • @Knoloaify
      @Knoloaify ปีที่แล้ว +54

      @@udozocklein6023 Not really. Usually, people didn't build barricades on the battlefield. The most notable cases in Medieval Europe were the Hussites with their carts, and later the English with their longbowmen during the HYW, and the French with their artillery and gunmen during its last battle at Castillon.
      In Japan, Nobunaga was the first one to become famous for combining trenches, barricades, spearmen, and gunmen to take out the Takeda army at Nagashino. The tactic was later reused by his successors in the few conflicts that followed his death.

      You can also do a Shogun I style bridgehead (90% of the battle maps are rivers with 1 bridge 😭). Need at least 2 layers to make it work (gaps/pathing nonsense), but he had plenty of archers to do it.... and could have then ran the archers into the woods (AI so forgetful). Once the tarball bridgehead is engaged, get the archers in range from the side and rain hell down on them while screening with yari sam and sending cav after AI's ranged units.

    Romans were known to build forts very quickly sometimes even while under enemy fire. Legionnaires holding the line while auxiliaries did the construction. It must’ve been so infuriating for the enemy to have their plans for open field battle upended like that. Caesar famously took part in a double siege. He besieged a walled settlement in Gaul, erected a second wall around it to contain and strangle the enemy and then got besieged himself by enemy’s reinforcements. So in the end this is also a very historically accurate tactic, albeit game makes it seem kinda exploity.

    I've only found this game playable with Darthmod Slow Mode. It might even be the best battles I've seen since the Roma Surrectum Slow Mode on the original Rome. It gives the units actually plausible survivability so you can (or have to more like) pull off tactical moves to actually do damage. Especially effective to keep some elite troops in reserve and put them to use once the enemy is exhausted.
    Nothing more satisfying than using terrain and tactical reserves to defeat a much larger force, something that really isn't possible when 70% of both armies are dead within 2 and a half minutes.
    It also captures that aspect where the majority of casualties come from routes, which makes it more standard that the winning force is still a viable force to go to a second battle immediately even if it was a 4k v 4k situation

    I started playing Shogun 2 for the first time a few days ago and I have a question about managing finances.
    I'm new to Shogun but not to Total War - I played all Total Wars from the original Shogun up to Empire for hundreds of hours when they came out and I can safely say I've mastered them (except for Empire, only played about 7-8 campaigns).
    I'm also playing as Chosokabe, 50 turns into the game I have 12 provinces (all peacefully occupied) and I'm only able to support a bit more than 2 full stacks while barely keeping my income in the black. When I had 6-7 provinces and virtually no income all surrounding clans with fewer provinces had a higher power rating than me and their provinces were more developed than mine. In the beginning I was trying to develop my provinces but when everyone started declaring war on me I had to scrap that and pump out troops so basically I haven't constructed a single building in more than 10 turns. I know that AI in TW games gets "invisible" bonuses (although I don't know the details in Shogun 2) so I'm wondering is this a "normal" game or am I doing something wrong? How much does trade matter? I can't trade with anyone because I'm on an island and apparently no other clan has port capacity to trade with me. I'm asking because the guy in the video seems to be doing much better financially. Playing on Hard difficulty btw.

      Trade matters a LOT in Shogun 2 actually. The trick is to hold onto key resources with your trade ships stationed at the little icons on the map out at sea. Defend those points with your navy to get access to specific trade goods that generate extra incom and also other clans will want to trade with you for the goods, so you'll generate a lot more income from trade deals on top of that. The trick of course is to make those deals with clans you pose no immediate threat to, which if I recall correctly, for the Chokosabe should be clans all the way on the other side of the map, like the Date clan.
      Of course, if I also recall correctly the Chokosabe are the Christian clan right? Or are they the ones on the little island? I think they get diplo penalties as a result of that, so you may have some issues there to overcome (usually by paying some tributes for a while to butter up a clan so they'll eventually sign a deal so you have more seasonal income). Just remember that in Shogun 2, once you get too big it starts an end game condition called Realm Divide, which makes every clan on the map increasingly hate you so they'll all form alliances against you and try to defeat you collectively. You won't have to worry about that though until you have roughly 1/3rd of the map though on Hard though (I think it's 50% on normal and goes down in percentage with each difficulty level you go up, so it might be 40% on hard and 30% on Very Hard, I'm not sure) unless you take Kyoto, then it triggers immediately.
      But don't let anyone else tell you that diplomacy or trade deals don't matter in Shogun 2. I won my very first campaign in that game becoming a trade master and used that income to fund my growth with province income mostly taking care of upkeep, by having like 10-15 active trade deals for most of the mid-game by trading with all the little tiny clans that have one or two provinces and only one or two big ones. Even more importantly the accruing diplo bonuses that came from the many years of trade with so many clans meant that when Realm Divide triggered, it didn't immediately cause every clan to turn on me, as the system adds on a growing diplo penalty that does max out after a few turns and can take a while to burn through accrued positive diplo points with a clan. Which in turn let me use that time to take out enemy clans one by one rather than facing everyone else at once. So I speak from experience when I say this is a viable strategy.
      All of that said, you probably don't need that many stacks in Shogun 2 anyway. At least not if you focus on taking one side of the map first. Japan itself is rather narrow, and once you have established a line of secured provinces on one end or the other you really only need two stacks moving along the length of the country taking new provinces. One for the north, and one for the south, as you move lengthwise along the country. This is fairly easy for certain clans to focus on that start near either end, but it's a nightmare and can't be done terribly well if you play as one of the clans more in the center of the map like the Oda or the Tokugawa.

      Switch your taxation rate to max every second turn and drop it back to where your provinces are no longer red in between to maximise your income without suffering rebellions. Don't be lured in by fancy expensive units. Crapstacks of Yari Ashigaru are overpowered for their cost. They can do a lot of work on their own, or you can use them to reinforce your specialist armies or even just each other. You'll be able to get more done than your enemies with all these stacks and maintain a koku advantage as well.

      get metsuke with high "overseeing settlements" skill to sit in your richest settlements, they will increase the effective tax rate and get you a lot of cash. Capture trade nodes and make trade deals, build ports to expand your trade capacity. Put markets and sake dens in your cities to make money. You can also leave a faction with just one castle and bully them for money every few turns, siege them and demand money in exchange for peace, rinse and repeat

    A simple trick to get Stand and Fight where you want them is to first dismount the general before using it. He will deploy where he is standing but either way, I don't see it as feasible in this battle anyway

      Playing Takeda for the first time and your initial Daimyo starts with Fear. So much fun running around and routing units. My other starting general's first level up got him the Sword of Ameratsu as the items/retainers choice, so he also causes Fear. It's amazing.
