Wow, amazing! We have heaps of southern rock lobster down where I live on the south west coast of Victoria in Australia. People go out diving for them all the time but for those of us who can't dive we have to put up with outrageous prices. A cray the size of the one that lady caught would run easily $150 here. At christmas time people have to pre-order their crays so that they can get one from the factory outlet fish shop in my town. We're not even that big of a city, about 40,000 people. Lots of demand though.

When the crays shed their old shell they come into the shallows so the sun can help harden their shells.

I believe it is if the species is freshwater or saltwater. The claws, or lack thereof, don't have anything to do with identification.

As old as this is, a lesson in knowing the regulations Matt Watson. You are only legally allowed 18 crays per party of three or more divers, not 24 as you stated.

  • @willusa2927

A little confusing to me because I'm I am an American and we call what you call crayfish down there he called lobsters up here and then the northern United States the lobsters have claws but in the South they can wear fart is that you not have claws that's why I wasn't sure but I'm gathering this is Australia

I'm aware of that. But they're Rock/Spiny Lobsters. "Crayfish" was a colloquial falsehood that managed to stick to the vocabularies of the British settlers of Oceania.

@@bfactor3 Actually... I certainly am no expert but Google 'rainbow lobsters', 'spiny lobsters' and 'slipper lobsters'. I think what defines a lobster from a crayfish is if it is freshwater or not, not the morphology. But everyone here is right. The spiny lobsters, since they are freshwater, are actually crayfish.
