For the people who wants portrait mode on their s8 you can download the google pixel camera it's buggy but at least you get the hdr+ and the portrait mode on the front and on the back.

My friend has s8 and I have s9 . His s8 takes much better picture ( details , contras , saturation ) than my s9 :( I'm disappointed with s9

Great comparison, but if i'm not mistaken, the galaxy S8 and s8+, do have software to make digital blur on the background of both cameras, the front facing and back camera. Its called selective focus.
My only comment would be my interest is specifically in sound quality in high volume level situations (up front, shooting concerts) as this is one area I've had a lot of problems with many phones and why actually here seeking comparisons.
I was epic enough to make it till the end. Still using Galaxy Note 5. Planning to change to either Note X/10 when it comes or Pixel 2 XL or One Plus 6T.
With the galaxy s8 + there isn't a portrait mode but it has the selective focus option and it can be used for portraits! You should try it!

Quick question, where these phones mounted on tripods?
I know it might sound stupid, but out of focus photos could be caused by your hands shaking and will definitely cause inconsistent results.

S8 has 1.7f aperture.. And yeah, you actually can shoot portrait with both front and rear cameras on close distance on S8/S8+. Its called selective focus and works fine in daylight with selfie camera 😘

Perfect camera comparison! I prefer the S8+ in a lot of situations. By the way, you can use something like the "portrait mode" in the S8+ front camera, you should choose an option called "selective focus" ;)

We watched it to the end. Coming for my S5 and my wifes coming from a s3... Yes, she still loves and uses her S3. Do we go with S9 or fall back to the S8 that everyone seems to love?

Really depends on how important 2X optical on the S9+ is. I'd like to see a side-by-side shot of a photo taken at 2X optical vs 2X digital.

This is really in-depth. I'm upgrading today and the s9 plus is way more expensive than the s8 plus here in South Africa and my choice was based on the camera as I take a bunch of pictures. So I'm confident that I won't really be missing out on that much by getting the s8 plus. Thank you so much for such a well structured and certainly detailed video.

Actually the S8 has the "Selective focus" mode that is quite similar to portrait mode of the s9
S8+. I'm deffo upgrading to it :)

S8 is not too far interms of quality output photos but more oftenly much better..
Correction in ur video s8 has 1.7 not 1.8 aperture :)

Are you shure you used 4k 30fps while doing the stabilization test because when you use 60 fps the ois won't work
Obviously s9 is expected to be bit better. But difference is so less as compared to the one in price that I'd think hard for both why buying.

I've got a S9+ and I'm kinda satisfied with it's camera. Maybe the unit that you got had some software issues on videos, 'cuz, honestly, the videos of this monster are incredible good (including stabilization). The only thing I really don't like about the camera is the front facing one. A lot of smothering, leak of sharpness. Anyway, good video!

I was definitely epic enough to make it to the end. I liked the S8+ more often than the S9+ but better stabilization is a big deal, but then, self portrait is a big deal to me too. I wonder if anyone did a video selfie test difference. You can't guess from photos how the video will be doing, yes? It can go back and forth for which phone is better! LOL
