S9+ pulls in a lot more detail and far better colours. But in all honesty, the S7 isn't twice as bad for a two year old phone. If you aren't comparing, the footage from the S7 Edge still looks fantastic, two years on. An excellent budget option in 2018. I remember the S5 and the S7 had HUGE differences especially in low light photography and general performance. But it's just not the same anymore. Excellent video! :)

I love my s7 edge. Had it since release and it holds up so well for a 2 year old phone! Doesn't even feel like it's that old! At the 2 year mark my precious Xperia Z2 was on its last legs, lagging and had a foggy camera lense (despite being water proof) and my iphone 4S before that was lagging, wouldn't hold a charge, etc... Samsung have won a customer for life! Wouldn't go anywhere else unless they do an Apple and "progress" by taking out key features like a headphone jack 😂

It's October 2018 now, and after watching this video, it makes me want to get the S7 Edge! I'm still rocking the S5 for other reasons (battery swap, IR Blaster etc.) But now, I can buy an S7 Edge for under $300 new. It's a great deal!

You got to be kidding, S8 is way better than S7 Edge. I've used both of these devices and have seen noticeable difference in their quality. But I agree that S7 Edge is still a good device.
All very good, hard to tell the different between the 7 & 8, but the 9 was on another level.

same quality? I've compared those 2 and the S7 didn't come near close to S9+ in low light or worse situation. Thus in daylight, the dynamic range of S7edge looks bad compared to the S9+.
else, S7edge can be the best choice.
,i upgraded from s7 to s8 early this year because i THINK s8 has better camera or photo/video "looks" better on s8 , however after watching this video i realize its only because s8 has better screen(display).the actual photo/video quality is pretty much the same

Big thank for this video, currently I using s7 edge and sometime recording in low light example in night, the s7 cant use the HDR Rich tone when recording 1080p 60fps while the S9 have that feature.
Would try to buy the S9+ later.
Anyway, s7 is a beast. Good price and powerfull phone. What I need s9 is only for the video rich tone 🤣

Great video; thanks for making this. I have an S7 edge and am thinking of upgrading to an S9. The S9 camera was superior in low light, but I wouldn't say it made the S7 edge look bad. Seeing this video makes me realize that the S7 edge is still a good phone in 2019.

It isn't. It depends on your priorities and preference.
At 4:30, there is a marked improvement. Some low-light shots look significantly better on the Galaxy S9/+, but that does not mean the older phones aren't excellent too. There's also more than just the camera, like the speakers and much more powerful CPU-GPU (SOC). In our country, the Galaxy S9 duo's score is nearly double than that of the Galaxy S8 in Geekbench---about as powerful as the iPhone X, even exceeding it in some benchmarks. (Exynos 9810, since Snapdragon devices aren't sold here by Samsung and carriers)
Gonzaalooo Osu! I messed around with the s9 not much of the difference. The surround sound makes your vibrate too much..display is thr same and battery life as well. I would wait for the s10
You can also see moderate improvements throught all of them from the s7 to the s9, showing samsung is doing a good job

It did, but some who like the bokeh effect will probably like what the s7 and s8 did better (focus on hydrant, blurred background).....and Samsung probably didn't plan it that way.
Great video mate. But currently there is a trade-in / 0% financing option to a Galaxy S9+ on their UK website. Coming from an S8+ do you think it is a good deal/investment? Wait for the S10? or a different phone?

For a recently released phone like the s9plus, you can't expect less but the latest software and cameras. But for the s7edge and S8plus 2yrs and 1yr old respectively- they are still usable and competitive phones for 2018.

so pretty close.. S9 seems a bit tiny more color -reach because of lower iso (because of wider aperture 1.5 vs 1.7) apart from that I found my "Old" S7 very simmilar to S9), which in my opinion is one of the best camera phones on the market, better than P20 and other competitors, I found Google Pixel the only phone that can compete with S7, S8 and S9. and maybe the latest Iphone X which is quite good in low light, but not as good as S7/S8/S9 .. I will keep my S7 for now! cheers!

Best camera review I have ever seen. All 3 at the same time really shows off the differences. To me it looks like the S9 is clearly best (until the crash) with the S7 and S8 being very close. The front camera is where the S7 falls behind the other 2. Please keep it up.

Thank you, brother. Real good video and real good job. Obviously, S9 has an advantage in low light due to dual aperture. However, it seems to me that S7 held up real good as well, especially on 4K video. Focus is definitely better on S9 - good catch. Also, reds are better on the S9 series. However, in daylight (and I wish you showed it here) S9 takes too bright pictures. Also, S9 is way expensive. I think that S7 aged real good figuratively speaking and besides you can get it cheap these days. So, I choose S7. Thank you.

I agree that the S9 had better focus. Also, I think the S9 did better than the S7 edge at capturing colour. But the comparison was entirely at night when, granted, the newer phone cameras tend to do better. It would have been nice to see a daylight comparison in the same video.

My S7 fucked out after too much water exposure.
Honestly, the difference between the S7 Edge and S9 for video is not massive.
Yeah S9 is clearer and crisper but the S7 Edge was just way fucking ahead of the game. Wasn't planning to upgrade until 2021 with the S7 :(
p.s - S9 in low light is shitty if you have stabilization on, rather turn it off and keep a steady hand.

I'm a first time watcher and now a subscriber. Great video. I have to say the S7 seemed a little better than the S8+ with quite a few things. The S9+ was far superior to the other 2. The S7's camera definitely lacked in sharpness but was still really good. The blacks seemed very dark in the S7 an seemed darker than the S8+. I was really surprised. I have an S7 and I'm considering keeping it until the S10 comes out. The S9 while really good just doesn't seem to be a huge leap over the S8, but I've heard the S10 is going to be a big leap and offer many more features over the S9. I'd like to know your thoughts. Keep up the great work.

Does the S7 remember camera settings after shutting down the phone? For instance, i always underexpose -0,33. Do i need to change that every time or does the S7 save that permanently?

I like the s8 camera over the s7 because the camera is more raw with image processing. This way I can edit more easily. As for the s9 the camera hardware has improved however the s9+ secondary camera needs improved for low lights.

S7 Edge & S8 Plus look about the same to me. The S9 Plus is a slight increase but it is also way more expensive.
I am surprised by the differences between the S7 and S8. According to Samsung they both used the same exact camera so what is causing the differences? Software? I have an S7 Edge, had it since new and am very happy with it's performance. But the differences shown here are a bit puzzling. Well, thanks for this vid, very enlightening.
