  • Cruise Stop JUNEAU: Explore Mendenhall Glacier on your own explains how to find an easy way to get to the Mendenhall Glacier with a local company. It was easy enough to find and book and the times were perfect for our 8 hour layover in Juneau. There is a public bus that goes to the Mendenhall Glacier, but we did not want to waste our day on a bus, so we opted to go with the Glacier Express and I explain exactly where it is and what to do in my video!
The walk to the Glacier is very near the entrance to the park. It is probably about a half of a mile at most. Our hiking path to the waterfall was flooded out, so we only could view it from a distance, but what a BEAUTIFUL area. Juneau is a very scenic place. Bring your camera. Here are some helpful websites:
    Mendenhall Glacier
    www.fs.usda.gov/detail/tongas...
    Glacier Shuttle
    www.juneautours.com/shuttle-m...
The cost of the bus ride was $45 per person round trip. I saw no taxis. Downtown has some good restaurants for crab and shopping for jewelry and miscellaneous crafts. It was cold, bring an umbrella and dress in layers! If you have any questions please ask me in the comments below. Thanks for watching! I have a playlist on the OVATION OF THE SEAS, a Royal Caribbean ship! Check it out!

The bus driver for Blue Bus was extremely informative. Juneau is laid-back. The tram is a great option for fun. Thank you Bon Voyage.

Thanks for watching! Tourism is big in Juneau and the bus driver loved his job. I loved seeing the glacier, even with the rainy weather! It’s amazing!✨✨

Very Informative, thank you. We are going in Mid-May and didn't book any excursions with the cruise line yet. Not sure what we want to do, but this was helpful.

It is super easy to get to the glacier. If a lot of ships are at port it can be busy. It’s such a beautiful area, you will have fun wherever you go!

Thanks for watching! It was a bit chilly and rainy in August. Definitely bring a raincoat (packable kind) and layers. It can be nice and it can be Fall weather (cool), too. Have a wonderful time. It’s beautiful! ☀️🚢

I'm doing Alaska mid June, 2024 on the NCL Bliss. My excursion to Mendenhall and the falls was only $45, from NCL. I hear that it's a little less than a mile from the visitor center to the falls.
I'm contemplating packing my long unlined trench coat to deal with being outside in the rain. Maybe some boots to deal with a flooded trail.
PS. I read that the Glacier extended all the way to the visitor center, 100 years ago.

I heard there is a bus, but I couldn’t find it! The trail could be fine, it’s hard to say! June could be completely different weather. I was there once in June and it was very warm! Be prepared for anything! That’s a good price. The visitor center has a nice display of old glacier pics. Enjoy! Thanks for watching.

Thanks for the info we are doing our first Alaska Cruise this summer and doing the same ports. We are doing a cruise off our boat in the morning and coming back afternoon and we decided to do the same maybe try a cab so we do it on our time? Did you see any taxi's? We are now subscribers and supporters of your channel looking forward to seeing your other videos and wishing you more channel growth. We are looking forwardvto vlogging Alaska.

Thanks so much for watching! I didn’t see taxis. It’s a small town. They do have a visitor’s center and booths, so just ask around. There are a ton of people, so I think these charter buses are a way to keep things moving. Enjoy!

So you ended up buying tickets for the blue bus from one of the booths you see when getting off the ship? We have a different excursion planned so I'm trying to find out if I can fit this in also. So do have any idea how long you spent between when you bought the ticket and when you got back off the bus? I'm guessing it was the trail to Nugget Falls that was flooded? Thanks for your video!

    • @BonVoyageCruiseTravel
      @BonVoyageCruiseTravel  ปีที่แล้ว +2

Yes I bought it from the booths lines across the port entrance. Then you go right to the aerial area (a bus parking lot). Someone leads you to the bus and you wait. I think there are scheduled times. It’s every 40 minutes or something. Just ask. We got to the glacier, trail was flooded, but we got close enough to take a picture. Saw the gift shop and displays and then caught the bus back. It was also on a schedule. You probably need at least 2 1/2 hours to not feel panicked! Ask at the purchasing places for the times. The cost is the same for all of them. There wasn’t a bus to hop on without this. At least I couldn’t find it! Yes the flooded Nuggets falls trail wasn’t walkable. It is beautiful there anyway! Thanks for watching!

Thanks for watching! Yes this time it was really overcast there but I did a cruise 8 years ago and it was 70 degrees and sunny! (June). I just had to remind myself it was August and not November! Beautiful for sure, rain or shine!
