- Welcome to another day here in Alaska as today I present A MUST DO EXPERIENCE IN ALASKA | Helicopter Glacier Walk | Juneau Mendenhall Glacier. This was such an AMAZING EXPERIENCE and also is now of my favorite excursions ever! It was some of the most beautiful views I've ever seen and just something in general that I thought would never do. A lot of people have questions about this experience so I hope this gives some insight of what to expect. Enjoy!- MrBucketlist

Curious how your experience has influenced, if at all, your actions regarding climate change. One of the rationales given by helicopter tour companies and Forest Service for allowing these tours is that it inspires people to act regarding climate change, but they have no actual data to support this assertion.
It has made me more aware more than anything. This was always on my bucket list to see before it melted away and seeing how fast it was melting before my eyes was pretty mind blowing.

How has your awareness impacted any of your behaviors as they relate to climate change?
This is a sincere question. I live a couple of miles from the Mendenhall Glacier, and have watched it recede for 60 years. I travel less, drive less, strive to consume less, and more thoughtfully.

This is the best Alaskan cruise excursion! I absolutely recommend it if it's within your budget especially if you are comfortable booking directly with Temsco. Celebrity Cruise Line were absolute thieves when booking through them. Thank you for sharing your experience! 👍
You're welcome Deniz! I agree. Even though I didn't have any issues I would still recommend booking directly with them as they were a really good company and deserve 100% of their compensation. I can only imagine how big of a cut Royal took.
Right and Norwegian Cruise lines were theives too. It was $80 more booking through them.

What month did you visit? I’m looking at an early May visit due to work and cost factors. I’m nervous the excursions I want, including this one won’t be operating that early in the season!

The walk is very short. You probably take no more than 25 to 30 steps. It's more of land on the center of the glacier which gives you a panoramic view of the environment.

The hike was 13 miles or the flight?
13 Mile Flight.
Lucky you got to see the top of the mountains. When I went in early August it was way too misty.
I was surprised as well. It was a mixture of snow/rain when we were flying. Thankfully we could still see pretty good.
I signed up for the Helicopter sightseeing tour and glacier walkabout. Description details about 1 hour of walking. How physically fit should a person be to be enjoy the tour?
If you do the same one I did, it wasn't much walking at all. It was more standing around.
I have this planned but seeing this makes me nervous

We were on the glacier for about 40 minutes.

Also when I did this I think the ice on the glacier was deep blue and more bound to crack. I guess it changes color and consistency with the seasons.
Yea it does. Our guide was talking about it.
How long were you on the glacier? 20 min or an hour?
It was about 45 minutes
@@MrBucketlist Thank you! I’ve been trying to decide between the one where you get 20-25 minute on the glacier & and hour on the glacier.
How many people on each helicopter?
It was a max of 5 for our ride. 2 people in the back, 3 people in the front including the pilot.
@@MrBucketlist I did this excursion just over a month ago April 2023. I think they can take 6 people at a time, dependent on size?

I went around the last week of May. This should be operational throughout the entire cruise season.
