You are very lucky to have this relationship with your Dad. DON'T ever take it for granted. He is pretty skilled, from the looks of the boat. It looks GREAT. Good job.
what an amazing video! This really deserves more views, I have a 14in jonboat and it looks like crap. I might just take up the project and apply it to the old boat. Great vid and I loved the 4lb bass pop, so sick
*I bought this model for my 14 ft Jon boat. **enjoyable.fishing** recommend love it!!! It pushes my boat with ease ( 2 men 220 each). I would highly recommend this to anyone.*
We have the exact same jon boat .. We love it..but after seeing this vedio im seriously considering this idea for a bass boat... Your dad has mad skills ...super stoked!
Great looking stump knocker guys! Best part is the father and son time well spent. The floor being opened up like it is makes the small boat fish like a big one.Nothing to trip on when you're headed for the net to land the trophy. Could easily be duck hunted from as well. Just need camo instead of the OD green. That would be the perfect Stick Marsh boat down here in FL. Grace to you, @OneOver99
I have converted a 12ftn Klamath V-hull into a bass boat using plywood, and I am more interested in getting a Flat-bottom boat like yours. It looks a-lot more stable than my boat. I really like the way this boat was built , and the materials that you used in building it.
Great conversion work! Everything came out looking perfect. Thats the best way I have ever seen to save alot of money and have the functional bass boat for every situation.
Great job on the boat. I really like the herculiner and how open and comfortable the end result looks. Sounds like you and your Dad had a great time working on the project.
You two Guy's did a awesome Job, on the john boat . I had one like this and this conversion would have made my Dream boat (as for as john boats go) but I would be content to fish from this as a primary bass boat . Great Job ,detail and finished product.... !!
Yeah I was hoping it would be rigid/stable..I got the boat because of those great ribs.. Well thanks again from a fellow Washingtonian(westside).. Good luck fishing..
My buddy and I did this to his fourteen foot. Didn't look near as good. We might actually redo it this way now that i've seen this....really nice work man it looks great.
Gave me ideas on how to make one for my War Eagle 15' duck boat. Your dad is good craftsman. Some people don't know the satisfaction from building it yourself and using it. Never will..Good job...
Thanks, I have a bass boat and also a 12ft John. The Large mouth and the small mouth state records have come from no wake small city lakes. about 25 years ago I bought a Coleman crawdad> It was the deluxe model with carpet and decent seats but they weren't padded. I put a locater on it, made a live well out of an ice crest, put a trolling motor on the front and wired it with a front plug and a for horce Yamaho, I loved it for small water. As a joke, I used to pull it with a Honda Goldwing sometimes. I was so stupid getting rid of it. I put some money in it but It was a project and lots better than a bass buster. I should scan a picture of it. The coolest part is in the spring we would take it on The illinois river where you couldn't get a full size boat ank kill sand bass, 9white bass and smallies)
you better stay by your dads side and learn all you can from him!!! Seems like hes talented with fabrication and I would get every bit of knowledge I could from him!! Hard to teach what hes got!! Great job you two!!
mgt00656 Yeah, he's a great guy. Raised me right...and plus I've had the chance to go fishing with him and catch some nice bass too. The boat is great looking and functional. Awesome! Thanks!
My TTX10 seats two but most of the time it's just me and my 3 rods. I love to fish using my feet to control the motors. There is no boat like it in the world! For a Jon boat you do have a nice set up, though. Great job!
Awesome job! Looks like the work of a pro machinist, I wish I had the time & place for such a project. I love fresh water sport-fishing but I'm getting older & need a smaller, lighter boat - something like this would be perfect, thanks for the ideas!
YES! did this years ago with plywood, but I was so proud of the platform! (just starting bass'in). the diamond star is completely awesome. sure it added weight, but the strength? fagetaboutit! WELL DONE! gawd it's nice to have a good dad! I sure miss mine......
this video is five years old can we get an update on the boat to see how it's held up and any changes you would of made if you knew what you know now back then.
ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL!! The lake I fish is shallow and loaded with stumps! I can't run anything bigger than a 15hp and you can forget about a big bass boat. This would be perfect! I want it! Lol
@bigshawn99tJust saying, It might be easier to leave the original rivets in place and just cut out the seat instead,it would save you from doing the rivet work, plus those 1/4"100ct rivets are like 40 bucks at Grainger.I also removed the seat from my boat 10' sears, added 1"of foam with tape for durability, and tarp for the top,it folds in half and is stored away in two sections floor only weighs 3lbs.Also check out my bowmount conversion,Lot of love for that boat.
You guys did an awesome job. I am getting ready to do the same thing to the bottom of my boat. I like the idea of extra floatation but wouldn't the foam insulation also cut down on the amount of noise put into the water?
I know everyone has their own opinion, but why metal floor? When the sun hits it, it's gonna feel like an oven. Trust me, I know from experience. Other than that it's really cool and I like how you've got seats and not benches. Clean, simple, nice...
Haha yeah I figured it wouldn't have enough leverage toward the rear to sustain the weight in the front. But yeah i guess I will have to . What would be a good material to build a solid frame that isn't too costly?
Exactly, that's what I meant by "if a cold rivet is good enough, why not?"-- there's no need to go overboard with exotic methods and way more effort than necessary if a simple tool will do the job elegantly. the beauty of this project is your average reasonably-skilled person could do in their garage over a weekend with the sorts of tools most modestly outfitted tinkerers will have available.
Awesome job Fellas, I have a 18ft Sky Nymph, 3 bench seats and a nice platform for support on the front. I would like to remove the two middle seats but I have been reading a lot of forums and see that its strength may be eliminated by doing so. These two seats are NOT attached to the floor, ONLY the sides... I have braces every 1 1/2 ft... Should I do this, what is your opinion?? I plan on putting styrofoam between the braces and a .090 aluminum or plexi glass flooring on top of that... I want a nice duck boat
Nice build guy my only question is why did you rivet every thing instead of TIG welding it all together ? I just bought a 1448 river john and looking for ideas for the deck and stuff rely love the ideas you guys have ... thought about putting a 1000cc jet-ski motor in mine what you think?
Nice job wow.. thats a serious conversion.. I just bought this exact boat in 12'! Its a Lowe! Question for you.. How stable were the sidewalls without the seats in? I am wondering as I would like to put in marine grade ply and carpet on the floor and remove the rear seat/center seat. That would leave me with two small side seats in the very back and the bow seat.. just curious what you think.. thx
Dear FHC Outdoors, I would be really REALLY gratefull if you could reply to this. At 00:05 the first chair at the front, what is the model name, do you have a link for it? Thank you! Regards, M
Marijan Karaula they don’t make this exact one any longer, but here’s the closest comparison I could find: www.basspro.com/shop/en/bass-pro-shops-tourney-special-pro-butt-seat
I have to say nice set up I would like to do something really close to what you guys did but I want two storage spaces on each side for my rods and reels that will lock so they don't get stolen again I like the idea of having every thing I need in my boat and secure. so that's my plan for my Jon boat mod nice build I have to say
Hey great Video, I'm up here in Nova Scotia, Canada, I just bought a 16' Princecraft, has the deck flooring, 50hp Yamaha on her with electric trolling motor, the guy who had it before me tried to make it into a Bass boat but he said it wasn't fast enough... lol anyway's I was looking to put speakers in it that hooked to my iPhone, with a small amp, do you have any clue how to do that stuff ? I have an Electronics background so I'm good with this stuff, any help ? thanks !
My early 60s Klamath came with Dap33 joints so i use the caulk from a tube. Has more oil in it. rehydrates the old seal ^_^ should be placed around rivets too.
CRAFTMANSHIP!!!!! ALMOST LOST ART HERE IN AMERICA. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHAT YOU MOUNTED THE SEAT PEDESTALS TO( UNDER THE FLOOR THAT IS)??? AND THE HERCULINER. IS THAT A TWO PART PRODUCT LIKE RAPTOR LINER??? I HAVE A 60'S OR SO SEA KING.
I have a similar setup with a 15 yamaha four stroke. I put a front and rear deck on it and did it with a roofing product called hydro stop, it doesn't get above 90 degrees in direct sunlight. Nice on your feet. I was wondering when you mounted the pedestal seat on the front deck did you do anything special underneath the plate? I'm going through plywood and was going to add a diamond plate square under it and bolt on. And also how is the stability up front?
@BassinNW Ok man, thank's. I think i will go with either the 9.9, 15 or 20. just to be safe on the water so i dont get stuck out on the great lakes. Thanks again!
this is sweet, how long did the proscess take if you were to add up the hours and where did you get the styrofoam insulation? sweet outcome by the way.

@BassinNW oh wait, then im wondering... can you get 20 hp or 15 hp motors that you can handle with you hand on that stick thing that comes from the motor to control? or does the boat need a steering wheel?
im thinking of doing something like this to my 12' jon. if you could take a look at the link and tell me what you think it might cost. going as cheap as possible. i want decking from the front to the first bench seat, a clamp on the back bench seat, a swivel seat and post like in the pictures, a wooden box in the back for a battery, cause i only have a trolling motor, and id like the floors and deck to be carpeted with $13 8'x1' carpeting. thanks

Thanks for the video dude! I loved the idea. I`m getting a Jon boat with in the next couple months with a trolling motor. So after that when i gather enough money, i will hopefully do a project like this. May take a while to get enough, maybe not as good as yours, maybe just some seats and stuff. Thanks for the vid!! I subbed
This boat is soooo nastyyyy!!! I was looking o do about the same thing. Buut im having trouble sizing out the posts for the seats. What are the lengths of the posts your seats sit on? They seem to be the perfect size
You guys are great. Thanks for sharing. Question: you guys placed a seat at the bottom of a boat. Bass boats have seats on a top(lining). What would you suggest/recomend about seat mounting position? How does it affect your casting, boat stability, fishing? Or it is not that much different?
TungstenCarbideTempe We don't really sit while bass fishing...the seats are there for moving around, or if we get tired. But that doesn't happen too often to be honest.
That's a great looking rig. I just got a 14' Jon boat and want to make it more comfortable to fish from but if it's more than a couple hundred I probably won't be able to fix it up that nice until next spring. If you don't mind me asking, about how much did all that cost?
You are very lucky to have this relationship with your Dad. DON'T ever take it for granted. He is pretty skilled, from the looks of the boat. It looks GREAT. Good job.

Do it!! This guy did a great job, but i would like to see the jon b version!!
Just realize this comment is nine years old! You’ve had a lot of success since then and probably don’t need to convert any John boats LOL!
An OG Jon B comment! 😂
*I bought this model for my 14 ft Jon boat. **enjoyable.fishing** recommend love it!!! It pushes my boat with ease ( 2 men 220 each). I would highly recommend this to anyone.*

Great video! Thanks.
Looks really good, i plan on doing the same with my 12 foot boat. I may use different materials since I don't have anyway of machining aluminum.
Awesome job! Looks like the work of a pro machinist, I wish I had the time & place for such a project. I love fresh water sport-fishing but I'm getting older & need a smaller, lighter boat - something like this would be perfect, thanks for the ideas!
definitely nicest conversion iv seen, not overdone with a bunch of junk either, u can do sum serious multi species work with that rig.
excellent vid. well narrated. great project for a father and son.
Outstanding work. Great attention to detail.
YES! did this years ago with plywood, but I was so proud of the platform! (just starting bass'in). the diamond star is completely awesome. sure it added weight, but the strength? fagetaboutit! WELL DONE! gawd it's nice to have a good dad! I sure miss mine......
***** easy to let yourself not realize what ya got, huh? always "know". peace to ya brother.
Impresive. This gives ideas for ones own projest.
this video is five years old can we get an update on the boat to see how it's held up and any changes you would of made if you knew what you know now back then.
The boat has held up great. Other than it being dirty, it's solid. The trailer fenders have not held up. They need to be replaced. That's it!
Well done boat and well done video with voice over.
ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL!! The lake I fish is shallow and loaded with stumps! I can't run anything bigger than a 15hp and you can forget about a big bass boat. This would be perfect! I want it! Lol

Sweet looking boat! Definitely got my wheels turning on what to do with mine.
That was amazing. You and your dad have some serious skills.
Awesome conversion! I'd love to go bass fishing in that
You guys did an awesome job. I am getting ready to do the same thing to the bottom of my boat. I like the idea of extra floatation but wouldn't the foam insulation also cut down on the amount of noise put into the water?
Looks awesome man. My dad and I did a similar project on my 83 starcraft
I know everyone has their own opinion, but why metal floor? When the sun hits it, it's gonna feel like an oven. Trust me, I know from experience. Other than that it's really cool and I like how you've got seats and not benches. Clean, simple, nice...
thanks for explaining things step by step. food for thought!
Excellent job man! One of the better ones I have seen.
I've been wanting to do this so I have a casting deck. Our pond is small 2 acres. Your boat might be to big for it but I like the concept.
Great video. Your dad is a smart man.
Awesome job man. Also the video was very well presented and above all entertaining!
dude great job your pops is a very talented guy and you should be proud beautiful job youu 2!!!

I applaud your choice in beer...hidden behind the front seat... the boats nice too
That looks killer man! I've always wanted to convert a Jon boat as well I've seen some made with livewells etc
Great video Dan. I got a 12ft semi-v hull that I've been working on.
Great video and great job
truely DIY, this video really deserved a thumbsup.
Nice job wow.. thats a serious conversion.. I just bought this exact boat in 12'! Its a Lowe! Question for you.. How stable were the sidewalls without the seats in? Dear FHC Outdoors,
I would be really REALLY gratefull if you could reply to this. At 00:05 the first chair at the front, what is the model name, do you have a link for it? Thank you!

Marijan Karaula they don’t make this exact one any longer, but here’s the closest comparison I could find: www.basspro.com/shop/en/bass-pro-shops-tourney-special-pro-butt-seat
Thank you very much, my dad is crazy about these things he was dying to know!
Very nice ! I just picked up a 10ft aluminum jon and I'm trying to put a deck on it . Would that work?
I have to say nice set up I would like to do something really close to what you guys did but I want two storage spaces on each side for my rods and reels that will lock so they don't get stolen again I like the idea of having every thing I need in my boat and secure. so that's my plan for my Jon boat mod nice build I have to say

AWSOME little basser. Now go and get the big ones.
Thank you!
Good Job my friend, looks like y'all did a great job on this boat. Thanks for sharing and keep up the fun videos.
Dale
My early 60s Klamath came with Dap33 joints so i use the caulk from a tube.
Has more oil in it. rehydrates the old seal ^_^
should be placed around rivets too.
Your boat looks Great! Nice work!
Very nice job! Makes me wanna do a conversion now. Thanks for posting.
Awesome job, that boat looks amazing!
That’s awesome! Nice work
Very cool! I like the diamond plate. I am gathering ideas to rework an old Sea King 13-1/2 foot.
Awesome looking boat
Nice job! But couldn’t you have just used a regular rivet gun?im asking cause I want to do this to my 14 footer
What gauge metal did you use on the inside frame. Anything you would do different if done again? Thanks and awesome job you guys did on the boat!
Very nice job. Well done.
keep it goin great job post a vid of you using it and how old is the jon boat
good job man
this is sweet, how long did the proscess take if you were to add up the hours
and where did you get the styrofoam insulation? sweet outcome by the way.
Also, I'd like to know how you framed/made the hatches, and the hardware you used (type of hinge, latch, etc.). Do you have any close-ups of this?
Finally, what kind of fasteners did you use for framing? (Pop-rivets, screws?)
Being that we are in washington state . My best bet will have to be the aluminum then correct ? How much longer does it last in comparison with both materials?
Good looking Jon!
@BassinNW oh wait, then im wondering... can you get 20 hp or 15 hp motors that you can handle with you hand on that stick thing that comes from the motor to control? or does the boat need a steering wheel?
im thinking of doing something like this to my 12' jon. if you could take a look at the link and tell me what you think it might cost. going as cheap as possible. i want decking from the front to the first bench seat, a clamp on the back bench seat, a swivel seat and post like in the pictures, a wooden box in the back for a battery, cause i only have a trolling motor, and id like the floors and deck to be carpeted with $13 8'x1' carpeting. thanks
was very good, at the end of the modified stayed with that weight?
how stable is this after all the conversions were completed? looks awesome, your dad and you did a great job converting this over!!
Thats awesome, cant wait to give it a go. What was the name of the primer and paint you used?
how muh did all the materials cost? How much is that diamond plate? and that liner? i wana do this to my jon boat..that shit is sick!!
Wow!!! Great vid and great job on the boat!!!
What pound thrust is your trolling motor? Also what shaft length did you go with? I need advice on a minnkota edge for my 14' Jon. Nice boat by the way!!!
For those of you wondering why no welding was done on the holes: I assume it's two-fold. First of all if a cold rivet is good enough why not? Second of all welding aluminum is IMPOSSIBLE with most common welding tools. Because aluminum oxidizes so readily in air you have to scrub like heck and maybe use caustic cleaners, and then use Metal-in-Gas (MiG) welding. You CANNOT use any welding tools available to the average woodsman for it.
This may be a stupid question...Did you also rivet the 3/15 aluminum flooring to the hulls braces??
Thanks for the video dude! I loved the idea. I`m getting a Jon boat with in the next couple months with a trolling motor. So after that when i gather enough money, i will hopefully do a project like this. May take a while to get enough, maybe not as good as yours, maybe just some seats and stuff. Thanks for the vid!! I subbed
Is that what you have? 11" posts on the lower deck? How about the raised deck?
Great job looks great 👍 but its missing one thing, weres the beer holder? 🍺
That's a great looking rig. I just got a 14' Jon boat and want to make it more comfortable to fish from but if it's more than a couple hundred I probably won't be able to fix it up that nice until next spring. If you don't mind me asking, about how much did all that cost?
Could you have used thinner aluminum on the floor like an eighth?
