Your first video reminded me of when I would go fishing with my Grandfather. Now seeing this video, I am looking for a Jon boat that I can use to customize the way he had his. Unfortunately he sold his old boat due to bad health and being clear across the states I could not get there to pick it up. Thanks for refreshing great memories of my childhood.
We just bought a little jon boat similar to what you have here,. Years ago, my wife and I bought fishing kayaks, I looking for another option for deer hunting, had been looking for a jon boat. After getting it we have decided to start using it some for fishing this year. I am keeping my fingers crossed the motor is good, but it is a 2007. Looks like it hasn't been in the water much, so hopefully it will be good to go this spring. I will be working on some of the mods I plan to do to get our boat a little more storage and fishing friendly like you have done. Thanks for sharing, I seen in your other video you ended up selling the boat, Ihave subbed your channel, so we will come back and see what you replaced it with. Thanks again and have a blessed week and happy new year my friend. Dale
this project is awesome and im glad you still have it and use it. when i was a kid my buddies dad helped he and i put a front deck and bow mount trolling motor on an old leaky v-hull aluminum boat, we fished that thing for like ten years untill they moved away and ive always been infatuated with this idea. yours came out really exceptional. (it also helps that you and your dad are obviously talented fabricators.) im gonna go check out your website, keep up the good work and tight lines!
Phillip Williams Phillip, thanks so much for the feedback. To be quite honest, this would not have come out like it did if it weren't for my dad. He builds lots of things, from guns to bass boats lol. Using wood would have kept the cost down, but the cool thing is, there are so many options it just takes some creativity.
***** thanks for the reply, i came across a website (tinboats.net) that has alot of guys doing similar projects and theres lots of great ideas on there. if you have the time you should see some of the really incredible outcomes these guys get even from cheap craigslist heaps that dont hold water. anyway keep up the good work man.
Really nice job ... I keep vacillating between getting a kayak, canoe or small jon boat, but I love the story and memories tied up with your boat ... Cheers!!
A little late to the party but i just bought a 12 footer. Is there a benefit to using aluminum vs marine grade plywood? Also can you go into more detail about mounting your swivel seats?
great boat, I'm really wanting to build one for the delaware river ,I like the aluminium deck rather than wood with carpet , I need something for shallow parts of the river and am considering a jet style outboard , whats the max HP on a typical 14 foot john? thanks for the great vid.
Sup buddy. My question for you is about removing the bench seats. I just got a 12ft flatbottom and was wondering if removing the seats would effect my boat in any way. I'm pretty stoked about this project. Any advice would be appreciated thanks and remember tight lines and sharp hooks my friend ✌🏽🎣🎣🎣
Victor Davis they might add some stability, but most seats in Jon boats are full of foam to help with flotation if the boat takes on water since most don’t have binge pumps. Our boat didn’t suffer any negatives, just made more space for us :)
@@FHCOutdoors Thanks bro. That's exactly what I'm striving for is more room since it's only a 12fter. Kinda want to mimic that panfish edition jon boat if you've ever seen one
Thor Bowman At this point, no. If I were to do another project, then I would install two bases. One middle, one offset for the reason you talk about..Thanks for the comment, I appreciate it!
+D James The seats don't provide much stability to be honest. They have foam for flotation, just in case the boat sinks. other than that, they were just riveted in. It's just as stabile as it was beforehand.
Haha wow... I am making my own conversion with a 14 foot flat bottom right now and their have been a couple sealed holes... I'm wondering if I should rivit them to be safe

+Matthew Haggard No problem, there are so many for sale on craigslist, etc. You can probably find one for a few hundred online!

Hi Dan. I was wondering if you looked into an offset post for your front seat? It might give you more room upfront. Best of luck and good fishing :)

I'm trying to make a boat like yours and its for a lake and I there a way I can add a lot of stability to the boat if I take the seats out?

is it wobbly in the front? I feel like if I set the hook hard the boat would capsize
+LiquidEnergyGaming Wobbly? no lol. It's good, trust me.
hi this boat is sweet i would love to try this project, do you take this boat on the river
I would say he does ... He spent a couple thousand dollars on it.
+TheHook Yes I've taken it on rivers. It doesn't have a jet, but works just fine unless I get into really shallow water with the prop of course.
right on dude sweet
How did the rivets work for sealing holes ?
Dusty Hallee Haven’t had a single issue with any parts to the build. Still fish it today :)
Haha wow... I am making my own conversion with a 14 foot flat bottom right now and their have been a couple sealed holes... I'm wondering if I should rivit them to be safe
How long will that battery run for? Is it a 12 volt?
Very nice! Have y’all came up with a poor mans power pole for this little setup?
Eyesofthasouth yeah, the outboard and trolling motor lol!
Where did you find the Styrofoam? No one in my area carry's inch and half thick.
+leurek Go to a building supply store :)
how does the battery stay charged or recharge if needed?
I hook it up to a battery charger when I get home.
