    Three months in and this video hit an astonishing 25,000 views! What the crap!? I know it's not millions, or even hundreds of thousands of views, but I honestly didn't think this review would even get this much support. Honestly, it's incredible to me that you crazy people found this useful, or at-least entertaining!
    I know it's late in the life-cycle of the CPU, but I'll be reviewing the R5 5600g here soon, giving my ridiculous take on it's performance and applications. No promise on a timeline, but I'm hoping within the next 2 weeks, so, Stay tuned!
    Thank you all for the views, likes, subs and your support, I really appreciate it :)

    Prices have dropped by around $100 in the U.S. making this card an almost no-brainer. 12GB gives you some headroom and longevity for later games when textures become obscene and 1080p titles start hitting the 8-10GB limit on GPUs with ray tracing. Due to size it fits almost any case, and the cooling is competent to give you the temps you need with noise you don't. Nice review, and thanks for being one of the few reviewers to really talk about the target audience, ie. 1080P at ultra settings or 1440p with high-ultra, etc... with more demanding titles. Edit: Also thanks for doing a PvZ2 BFN benchmark! My younger son loves this franchise, and has seriously been playing for almost 3 years now starting with PvZ GW2. Much appreciated.

    This is an older video now but I purchased a Asus "pre-built" with this card and would not settle for anything less than this card. I ended up getting a pretty good system and a good price at the time. I bought the system to play MSFS and is VERY graphics heavy! The drivers available in Jan '22 only would yield 38FPS with ULTRA settings. But since then there have been several graphics updates and now it will fly at a solid 58+ FPS all set at ULTRA@1080p and is buttery-smooth with NO graphics-stutter that I've seen even on RTX-3080 videos. Forza-Horizon 5 set at Ultra I get a pretty solid 127FPS@1080p. I do not play "shooter" games and just downloaded Dirt 5 running mostly maximum settings and getting 85+FPS and is still a very good gaming experience for me at 1080p. Because the graphics market was so out of control at the end of '21 I got this card and have not been disappointed. I also do CAD work on the side and this card performs really well in CAD! If the market ever returns to "normal" I'll get a 3070 but for now I can more than live with the performance I'm getting now. MSFS looks great at 1080p with ULTRA settings and 58+FPS so it "satisfies" me for now. As mentioned in this video GPU temps and fan noise are also very good. Where this card "shines" for me is on the CAD side with the 12Gb of DDR6! I can load huge CAD files on this card with no issues as CAD programs will use every bit of the 12Gb of RAM and still allows me to play AAA games.

    • @hardlytech9072
      @hardlytech9072  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey, that's awesome! I've actually had a couple of people ask about CAD performance and whether or not the 12gb would help, so hopefully this comment will help some people looking at this as an option. I've had good luck with it during video editing, being able to scrub through video and load up more in video memory. I'm glad you're enjoying your 3060!

      The extra VRam does help when working with renders/large files and such, especially if your GPU isn't as fast as the 3060, or if you find that you're running out of VRam often.
      The raw speed of this GPU though is similar to the 2070/S. So if you need something faster, I would probably look at the 3060 Ti/3070, even though they only offer 8gb.

      Well, the most recent NFS I'd probably play at 1080p/1440p on this GPU, or use upscaling. But it's definitely capable enough for the NFS series. As far as DX12, it wouldn't really change the way the game is designed to look. The advantage would come from potential optimizations that DX12 offers over DX11, which could potentially improve performance. DX12 can be hit or miss at times, though.

    Hi Hardly - what power source do you use? Could I use it with a 500 watt EVGA white? Regards & nice video!

    • @hardlytech9072
      @hardlytech9072  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I leave my components in the description of each video, I use the Corsair RM850x currently. I'd rather be using a Seasonic, but the 750w SS I have wasn't enough for my daily build, and this was what I was able to get locally at the time I purchased it.
      Personally, while a 500W PSU is generally enough for most builds that would include the RTX 3060, I wouldn't be comfortable using a PSU with such a low efficiency rating and only a 3 year warranty. If it's what you already have though and you're not able to upgrade your PSU, it would probably be fine, if you're not already loading up your PSU.
      Power supplies have an 'efficiency curve', and certain load levels are more efficient than others. So, for example, IF the 'EVGA White' which is rated for 80+ efficiency, tops out at 85% efficiency at 50% load on the 12v rail (most common efficiency load level), that would be at ~240watts from the wall, not from your system consumption. 85% of 240w = ~204 watts, the other 36 watts would be dissipated as heat in the transfer of consumption. IF the PSU is only 80% efficient at max load on the 12v rail, which tops out at 480w, that's only ~384 watts of presumably stable, usable power for your system, the rest would be dissipated as heat. 384 watts - 180 max consumption of the RTX 3060 would leave you with ~200 or so watts for the rest of your system. This doesn't take into account things like ripple or over/under current stability, or how the 3v and 5v rails effect the PSU's stability and efficiency.
      These numbers are all assumptions based on the information available on EVGA's website, and that of legitreviews review here - www.legitreviews.com/evga-500b-500w-power-supply-review_122110/7
      There's nothing terrible about the PSU, but I would personally avoid it.

    Hey, quick question.
    I have an I5-9400F CPU that came in a prebuilt PC with a 1660. The 1660 is dead and I want it replaced, but I don't know what to buy. People have suggested RX 6600 and someone I trust swore that the 3060 will work almost flawlessly with the 9400. Suggestions?
    To be noted that I'm not looking for perfect 120 fps, I just want my games (both old and new) to run neat and not bottleneck... too much, since I've been told up to 5% is to be expected.

    • @hardlytech9072
      @hardlytech9072  ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, a couple of things, depending on your pre-built, I would make sure whichever GPU you do end up considering fits in your case (I'm sure most will, but it's always good to check) and that the power supply can supply enough stable power to the GPU without ending up being overloaded (again, I'm sure it does, but it's always good to double check, just in case).
      As far as the 3060, it's a good GPU. It's not top of the line, but it's definitely a step up from the 1660. Depending on your budget, right now you could probably get something like a RX 6700 XT or 3060 Ti for the price the 3060 was going for a few months ago. Unfortunately, GPU prices have remained a bit inflated, especially on nVidia's side. As an example, RX 6950 XT's are going for roughly $650 U.S., whereas for the same money you'd be getting an RTX 3070. The 4070 did just release, so if you're into what nVidia has to offer, and your budget can accommodate, that may be an option as well. I also wouldn't worry too much about having a big bottleneck, the 9400f may not be a top performer, but it's no slouch. Depending on your gaming resolution, the bottleneck may not be an issue.

I spoke to Thermaltake and ASUS and nothing they told me helped. I even bought a new psu to run it but the cables simply did not match the configuration on the gpu. Nothing I tried worked. i just got this card for $360, nice that the prices are starting to come down. not quite where I'd like it to be, but it's better than it was. though i still have seen a few 3060's over 450, MSI, the Asus Strix, and EVGA being the most expensive. this is the only one i saw under 400, and it's actually made by Asus. performance wise I'd say it's about what the GTX 1060 6GB was back in 2016, and that was a 250 dollar card. that's what the actual price of this card should be, and the RTX 3050 should be like 189, but prices on the 3050 are almost equal to the 3060, and there not even close in performance. the RTX 3050 is normally a card for someone on a really tight budget, like what the 750ti and 1050 were back in 2013 and 2016. im surprised Nvidia hasn't made a 3050ti, though nothing would surprise me at this point.

    regarding your question about why a video card needs 12 gigs of memory when 8 or 6 would suffice
    actually, 6 or even 8 would not be enough as many games already use 8-9 gigs of vram
    not to mention video editing, neural network training, etc. - even 10 gigs won't be enough here
    there is also an 8 gigabyte model 3060, but it has a reduced bus, and it is weaker than the 12 gig variant by about 15-20 percent

      The question was more rhetorical than practical, but I do appreciate the discussion starter! I was merely pointing out that, in most use cases, most users will end up running out of Cuda before vRam, with this GPU. It for sure depends on the game and the specific use case, though. We definitely are in a time where 12GB would be my own personal limit (and recommendation) even for an entry level GPU.
      The 8GB 3060 is a slap in the face, imo. Much like the 4060/Ti. It's hard to recommend nVidia for strictly gaming these days.
      I wouldn't say that I've quit making videos, it's just hard to make the extra time right now. Plus all of the videos and components come out of my own pocket, which can be really limiting. I do intend to continue when the time is right. I appreciate your kind words and you watching!
