    A negative endoscopy does NOT necessarily mean one doesn't have a hiatal hernia. Sliding types are not always seen on EGD.

    I had a large hiatal hernia repair 10 yrs ago and it was botched. Initially, we did not know that My esophagus was perforated, so as I ate food went into my diaphragm causing me to become septic. I was placed on poweful antibiotics thru my veins with iv. I had feeding tub placed on my left side and was unable to by mouth for over 3 months.
    My stomach was damaged and resulted in gastroperises. My stomach empties in 8-10 hours. My esaphogus swells, inflammation, bloating, pain, back pain, heart palpitations, food&liquids get stuck in my esaphogus causing me to have to regurgitate it.
    Well, I had a barium exam yesterday and the hiatal hernia is back. I seen the radiographs as it was being done and the doctor explained what I was seeing. I could see and the doctor explained the barium radiographs of the barium being up in my esophagus 😢.
    I came home a few hours later to eat and I had a few bites of some Chinese food and I had to stop. I became severely bloated, pain, pain in my lower back, difficulty breathing. It was scary. Now I understand why I felt this way. It's because of the upper stomach being pinched by the sphincter as my stomach has gone up into my esaphogus. It took a couple of hours for symptoms to pass.
    I hate to have to consider another surgery.

After that surgery, I had a feeding tube put into the left side of the abdomen area. I did not anything by mouth for nearly 4 months. But that God, PTL, The sepsis infection was finally overcome. But then, when I finally tried eating, food got stuck in my esaphogus. That when we discovered I had lost the parastalsis in my esaphogus and test proved I had gastroparesis. I suggest trying a quick & easy alternative approach that just might work for you. Just drink a couple glasses of water and jump up and down for a couple minutes to jiggle the stomach back down to its normal position. No harm or cost in giving this approach a try. You should know quickly, in a couple days, if this approach helps.
    Forty years ago, I did an activity which forced part of my stomach up through or past the diaphragm. It was a couple months later that I suddenly started having severe stomach pains. I was initially misdiagnosed by a doctor as having ulcers. It was a couple of years of misery before I realized that the doctor was wrong and I had gastric reflux disease, or GERD. GERD often happens naturally without a clear cause, especially with older people. Normally, the esophagus sphincter and the diaphragm sphincter muscles line up and reinforce each other. If part of the stomach is pushed or pulled up through the diaphragm, the two sphincter muscles don’t line up and stomach acid can more easily leak into the esophagus, causing GERD.
    Other people suggest drinking warm or hot water to relax the muscles, I would suggest cold water so that the heavy water will stay in the stomach longer. I would also suggest doing it first thing in the morning so the volume of water won’t dilute the digestion process of other food. It may take a repeat on a few successive days for the esophagus to adapt to the new longer length for the stomachs to stay in its new proper position. I would repeat the process anytime I got heartburn or acid taste in my mouth. I have been trouble free for over 35 years now, and can eat anything I want and take no meds for anything. I later learned of a gastroenterologist in Michigan who recommends this process also; maybe others now also.
    The body needs strong hydrochloric acid in the stomach to trigger the esophageal sphincter to close, to break down bulk foods generally, and to separate protein into the amino acid components to be effectively absorbed from the small intestines for use to make new proteins our body needs. Most or all GERD medicines block the production of or neutralize the hydrochloric acid which then interferes with protein digestion and interferes with esophageal sphincter closing. Both of those actions are counterproductive.

      I disagree with PPI's being "bad", it's job is simply to do just that, slow down acid production which is what you want so your LES can heal, so don't forsake one for the other, keep a balance. PPI's along with these exercises work great together.

      You are correct! HCL with pepsin is what helps to restore acid to the stomach. But what would you expect from the inept Drs we have to deal with that tell you you're fine. Just take these prescription antacids like Prilosec and you'll be fine. Antacids just compound the problem. Even if they temporarily help.

      I have all the symptoms of a Hiatal Hernia, but I haven’t been diagnosed. Symptoms are acid reflux and constant heartburn (during flare ups), chest tightness, burning and soreness, even down into my ribs and stomach. Tenderness, everywhere, back pain, sometimes feels like knots. Weird taste in mouth and the feeling that something is stuck in my throat sometimes as well. It has been weird, I’ll feel great for weeks and then have all these symptoms for days to weeks. The shortness of breath is the worst part for me, I get winded way too easily and can’t catch my breath. I often feel like I can’t get enough air no matter how big of a breath I try to take. I yawn very often because my body needs more oxygen but most times the yawns don’t work. Every once in a while I’ll get a breath that is somewhat satisfying. It’s pretty horrible.
      I had my heart checked because of the chest pain and it’s fine. I’ve had some anxiety due to it also but I manage it pretty well. I’m only 23 years old and in good shape although I do not work out I have a physical job and i’m an athletic build. I think the root cause is my posture. I do a lot of sitting but lean forward and lift heavy things often from this position, hunched over. I’ve been trying to watch my posture and eat healthier to avoid the reflux as much as possible. I’ve found stretches help a lot also. Once I am back to normal I plan to start working out regularly to strengthen core so I can prevent future events.
      I’m curious if your shortness of breath is similar.

    Hello,
    Can the stomac be returned to it's place for good or is it temporary and it would slip back overtime?

    • @Synergywellnessny
      @Synergywellnessny  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes once corrected if the diaphragm is strong enough and your don’t cause another herniation it can stay unherniated. Make sure you’re doing things to aggravate that hernia and it won’t come back

    Everytime i lay flat on my back acid goes to my esophagus i lpst my voice i sleep in an incline position but my lower back is suffering because of the angle.

    • @SchubertDipDab

      Instead of sleeping on an incline, use something to lift the head-end of your bed 6-8 inches or so. Best to get a furniture raising stand rather than something like books that could slip! Sleeping on your left side is generally better so you could get a long cushion to rest against to stop you turning. Good luck!

    My mother (87) has only recently been found to have a massive hiatus hernia. About 1/3 of her stomach is sitting on the wrong side of her diaphragm, under her left lung.
    Is there any hope of alleviating her problems through chiropractic means ?

      @Synergywellnessny  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, but that doesn't fix the case of your acid reflux!!! It's similar to treating it with medication, except not as harmful. Fox the hernia and you fix the acid reflux

    • @YouButter
      @YouButter 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Synergywellnessnyfix in how? Manual maneuvers ? I’m doing that. The betaine actually worked so well the swelling is gone. I can keep my stomach out if my diaphragm easier so it can heal. From what I’ve read the betaine is temporary as the stomach acids will return to normal with proper eating drinking and posture. I’m adding oxbile salt too. I have no gallbladder.

    • @YouButter
      @YouButter 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Treating acid reflux with nexium reduces the acid even more which was the problem from the start that snowballs into other problems. Betaine hcl acts as the stomach acid correct? I’ve reduced the amount of water I’m drinking as to not dilute the stomach acids and correcting any food issues that could cause digestive problems such as processed or simple carbohydrates. I’m going what is making my body respond. I don’t have insurance for surgery.
