Also well aware about the recent announcement of Roller in the Centurion set. This video was completed before the announcement of them, and as such doesn't change the final verdict. EDIT: Also ay 8:59, I express my confusion for the wheels not matching up on the truck cab. Apparently this is actually 'accurate' to the original vehicle. Still think it's a little weird, but now it's more of a personal thing than a genuine criticism.
I'm trying to decide if I like this or SS38 Prime more. SS38 benefits from its own design aesthetic and a more complex transformation, but I still like the Masterpiece-inspired design of this toy.
I say just grab both. Both are really good toys, plus the Earthrise one's getting a cheaper rerelease soon in the Netflix line (which I ended up being wrong about). Downside is you get shitty piss-yellow battlemasters though.
Fun fact, the bumper and tire section can be removed, and if you have the Netflix edition of this figure, you can trade them out for silver hub cap consistency
I looovve Earthrise Optimus Prime, even though mine has a couple QC issues, mainly the pin on his right hand falls out sometimes, and the truck cab won’t tab in all the way to the panels on the legs. Mine also has a loose head joint, but only in certain directions. (Southeast and Northwest) Despite that I really love it and it’s one of my favorite figures.
I agree 100% on the Earthrise and ss38 comparison, they are different Optimusses that take the concept of the character and the aesthetic and bring them in two different directions, Earthrise is a tribute to G1, to those kids that wanted to hold their favourite hero in their hands, yeah it's not as show accurate as the v3 Masterpiece but it still holds the same spirit. It's also a very solid figure with amazing articulation, quick and addictive transformation and he feels, at least to me, much more at home on my desk rather then on my shelf. SS38 is the design we all know and love modernized and made to work on the big screen. Again, he's not movie accurate but he still looks like Optimus Prime would if he existed in the real world, but without making into a bastadization of the character with flames and face-ripping hooks. You said he's not as solid or as fun to transfor as Earthrise but he looks very cool aesthetic-wise. I don't know if I'll get him because I've only just now bought Earthrise and It would be hard to justify buying my 12th Optimus right after my 11th but this video really made me want to buy it. Great video as always doc, keep it up! Now if you excuse me, I'm going to transform Earthrise Prime again for a few... hours.
Thanks man. Still recommend SS38. He's not 'as' solid as Earthrise Prime, but he's solid enough. His transformation's also super clever. Not as addicting as Earthrise, but is has that 'woah' factor.
i kinda like the Netflix's version more i know its more desaturated but it fixes the leg problem with the grey. and the eyes pop out way more than they do on the earthrise + his deco makes him look like a mini mp-10 and i love how mp-10 looks
My literally only gripe in this case is the absence of Roller. The folding blaster, the Matrix, the hand articulation, they're all perfect, but if you do include the trailer, please include Roller. Either include the standalone robot or all three components.
I donno - people complained that Siege Megatron wasn't G1 enough either, but they sure as heck didn't knock themselves out making HIM any different for Earthrise!
Not buying him. As much as I want to take a look at one for the purpose of reviewing him, I'm not going to give Hasbro my money for the pinnacle of 'earthrise laziness'
Whilst I'm not too fond of the concept of action masters, I will get the leaked prime Arcee. Its best to vote with your wallet and show Hasbro that there's money to be made outside of geewun
The matrix on my copy of Earthrise prime is actually VERY LOOSE. You could look at it the wrong way and it could fall out. But I don’t mind, as usually the chest isn’t wide open.
Watched this video and decided to get the kingdom reissue. One of the most addicting transformations I’ve experienced. Still personally prefer the seige overall but thats just me
The only thing I didn't like about ER OP compared to Siege was the front wheel storage - I just loved how Siege tucked them up on the sides, and while I understand that they're folding the truck shell inthere instead of onto the back, the buttock wheels just look horrid, as with MP Ratchet and Ironhide. If Siege OP had included the refinements added for the Wei Jiang oversized KO though, with the cab "eyebrows" folding on new added hinges they they don't stick out from his waist profile, the headlamps attached to the shell flaps right above them so they fill the gap to the backplate and look like maneuver jets for the jetpack interpretation of it, and the window/arms flap panels fold to lie more compactly on the arm, the only thing left that ER OP would really hold over it would be the Matrix chamber and comining with a trailer... and as you already noted, the trailer is rather pants anyway. All that said, I do agree that SS38 is mostly better than either, though I'd rather a faux grille than robo-nudist exposed mechanics, which are the thing I've hated about Bayformers from the first publicity images.
Having screwed around with mine for nearly a year now, I feel like they could have fixed the complaints about the jutting chest with either a slider or second hinge where the window section meets the ab section. If the hinge you fold was a double hinge, it could fold back a bit to allow the "pecks" to be just a tad more flush to the abs.
The ER prime is probably one of the best figures from the ER line, the trailer isn't nothing to write home about but the figure is nice, it's a great fusion between cartoon and toy, wish they kept the yellow eyes therefore ignoring the GEEWUNNERS complaining that it ain't G1 (atleast I assume it's that) even though it was like that on the G1 toy, and glad that they showed the wheels and don't try to even make the upper waist using the wheel whels, I think what would make it better is if they do some mid-voyager release without the trailer or update the trailer to be even better like a G2 trailer with the same functionallity as the original G2 trailer had along with a roller for the same price as the standard ER prime
Only wanting one copy of any given character is more about budget than anything. I can’t afford to get every release so I tend to gravitate towards new characters in hopes of getting a more unique experience for my money.

But then again, I just recently started collecting, so I may see how, in comparison to how long others have been collecting, may find it tiresome.
I find it interesting that the wallmart exclusive version that doesn’t come with a trailer and has a darker paint job doesn’t get talked about that much.
@@DrLockdown first of all… HOLY COW I’m so happy to have revived a response from you! :D and second, yeah I could see why. They use a clear plastic instead of blue, but they do add some paint to the grey front wheels and they made the blaster all black.
Comment written as I went through the video. I think part of why people aren't complaining about this guy like they did Astrotrain is two fold. One, more people broke down and picked him up and realized how amazing that figure is, and two, "Deluxe Cliffjumper". Enough said on that front. lol If nothing else, I'm just stunned how good that Classics Optimus still holds up today. A few more joints and he'd frankly outdo most figures we get now. That 3P trailer was just the best thing ever! It's a bummer that it takes an upgrade kit to make this trailer better. (That said, I did order the Nonnef kit for roller and all the outside details) Overall, I do find this figure rather impressive, but he did need a bit more re-tooling, mainly on the legs. That robot mode though is just so great. I recently got an MP10 of my own (Am I a real collector and reviewer now, daddy?) and.... yeah, having that figure actually goes a long way in showing just how good this guy is. Especially when you realize he still has a matrix chamber with a removable matrix! That part alone blew me away once I had this guy in hand. No real feedback even, I just loved seeing Diaper Wave in a video. I got that figure just for laughs and I'll probably go to my grave laughing at all the jokes to be made about him. (Though I do enjoy his tapedeck mode) With the Galvatron teaser on all Earthrise boxes and the "Sleepmode" version of Optimus they made, I'm legit hoping that in part 3 we get Rodimus. I'd adore a new version of him with the modern engineering language.
I don't understand geewuners. There was a drama becuse his hands were gray in the promotional material. There was a DRAMA becuse his hands weren't cartoon acurrate.
Dang man. Talk about detailed and critical. I love it. Just got into Transformers from not owning one for like 25 years. Trying to decide between Siege, Earthrise, or SS38 Optimus Prime. Hard choice because I don't want to buy and own both like you suggest near the end haha. I like the accessory from Siege, like the paint job and look of the robot mode in SS38, and like there are no arm flaps in Earthrise. Again, I appreciate the video and the comparisons you do. Jumping into this stuff has been confusing recently, what-with the different manufacturers and brand lines, so this content helps. I might end up getting Earthrise since it is at Target usually and they are doing a 25% off promo on top of a 10% military discount. I wish I could get the price down to like 30 baseline by opting out of that trailer you maligned during the whole video lol.
@@DrLockdown Fast reply! Think it even went in before my edit with further thought. I appreciate the weigh-in. Planning on picking up one of those two, SS39 Cogman, SS11 Lockdown, and the new Trailbreaker. Just picked up earthrise Wheeljack (I saw that you didn't care for him much lol), Siege Sideswipe, and Siege Hound.I think I'm more lenient with the robot form if the transformation, durability, and vehicle form hold up.
@@DrLockdown the lettering details in his car mode are very nice. Just a nice vehicle form to me. The weapon and head surely look a little derpy to me in robot mode, though. Oh, I also got smokescreen. Not sure if I'm going to keep him though. Disappointed the guns were all blue and the wheel centers were blue and lacking detail. I did paint the guns black though so they look a bit better, but the paint rubs off, even with a clear coat, when you try to store the gun.
I am someone who only gets one version of a character usually but I do this so I can get more characters unless I find an alternate use for a figure I usually don’t get another version another exception would be QC issues as I had a big one on my ER Prime so I got the Netflix one which I honestly like more
I love that people think that this figure is better than its predecessor. Opinions are opinions, and I love it when people have different opinions than me. But personally, I don’t like the Earthrise Optimus Prime toy. It’s a voyager class figure with a trailer that probably only costed $5 to make, I hate that the trailer hitch is gray, meaning that the gray is not only on the back of the legs, but it’s also visible in a front view perspective. The biceps are gray, which might seem nitpicky as shit, but that’s a major inaccuracy. His front bumper and wheels bunch up on his arse, prohibiting the waist swivel. There is way less transformation going on in the legs, leaving with the kneecaps that used to fill out the gap in the back of the truck on the Siege Optimus Prime that do nothing here, the face isn’t painted, making it more accurate to the animation error where Prime has no eyes than the actual design, but also the quality of the paint on the head can be absolutely terrible, notably on Perspective’s copy. Also the candy red of the Siege Optimus Prime that made me want to eat it is desaturated. And his window boobs are jutting out, as if he is trying to rip off Shockwave’s massive breasts. But worst of all, he has a matrix that...does...NOTHING!!!!!! That is not an exaggeration, he can’t hold it with two hands, making him look like he holds it like it is his ID, it feels cheap as hell, and it is overused like a motherfucker. So I am sorry if I get crucified for saying this, because you will have lost a good viewer of yours, but I am just ranting.
I didn't want to buy the toy because the colors really put me off, and, y'know, I was expecting the Netflix one. Dead Optimus though? Nice. Still, toy looks nice and I'm excited to buy the mold in different colors. Though, I definitely prefer the Siege truck mode, the space themes are fun and it's nice and more seamless. Ah well, this one still looks nice.
It's definitely a better designed truck, but even with all the problems with Earthrise I'd still say it's execution is better. Corpse Prime is an easy skip though; I'll just wait for an inevitable different redeco.
How well do the Earthrise and Studio figures scale with Siege Megatron? I’m thinking of getting the Studio one plus the Nemesis bootleg to go with but I like to have options. I still have my TR Megatron so if Siege is too small I can eventually toyhax him up and figure something out for a melee weapon
Earthrise and studio series 86 are supposed to scale with each other, although I think the bootleg prime is oversized so that might complicated things (if you're referring to the bootleg I'm thinking of)
I tend to find that of the G1 cast of the WFC Trilogy, not very many figures cover that three point criteria as well as Cyclonus, Astrotrain, and both SS38 and ER Optimus. Kingdom Magnus, personally is an example of what you criticized here about Cliff, Grapple, Screamer, and Hoist about, since it only succeeds in concept in robot mode looks, but fails very, very hard on vehicle mode, as well as on engineering and result by virtue of simply remolding the Siege version, thus exacerbating ITS flaws the way Earthrise Megatron exacerbated Siege's ones. UM's engineering is fine for the Siege version, but only for that. And it's slightly irksome that people give it a pass coz 1) it has a white Optimus figure 2) it has an Earth-mode looking cab, and 3) the robot mode LOOKS G1. I'd compare it trying to forcing a cube into a circular slot, then carving the hole out into a rough square to make the block fit, rather than the other way around...or using the appropriate cylinder in the first place. Cyclonus still remains the master of those three points in this Trilogy, with the Optimuses and Astrotrain not too far behind, latter only held a bit back by being a victim of the slavish adherence to the Sunbow scale. (Though, I've grown to live with it. With the not-really-a-problem shoes on, he's as tall as TR Octane, who himself is only a hair shorter than Blitzwing)
The price point is so insane with these toys, the earthrise rerelease with the dumb ramp guys was 40 bucks and it wasnt worth it. At the same store, there was a g1 blaster rerelease that was 30 bucks
@@DrLockdown first, it's awesome that you replied, and second, jesus they get away with overcharging for g1 designs just bc they know the g1 fanboys and fangirls eat up anything they put out. It's sad really. Also, I wanna say again that I'm a huge fan of your channel that I recently stumbled upon
Be awesome to take this back to 1985 and show it to Daniel. Be like watch all the ways he can move and pose, and the transformation is so cool. Hasbro owes us each 20bucks on this fuckin trailer but whatevs. I does loves this toy. Whatever I'm going back to sleep, thanks for the review.
I'm just got into transformers with the kingdom line and yes, this version of optimus is really cool. Also fuck arcee, that figure should not have been a transformers but a plain action figure with more paint detail and better hands and feet.
VNR Prime has replaced this so hard for me its crazy how this was perfect 3 years ago but compared to what we get now, i can see al the mistakes lol. Not to say its terrible its just that VNR Primes owns this so much
I keep seeing praise for VNR prime, but TBH I don't really see it. It's more clever, but I dunno if it's better. More just different. Might pick up a G2 version, if they ever make one.
@@DrLockdown fair analysis As a stand-in for a G1 Adjacent Prime, it fills the vibe for me alot more. The grille abs are there but theyre not actuall the grille, theyre the steps for the truck making it a functionally different piece represent a classic part of the design for example. Or the Chest Windows are actually the BACK windows but still look a bit like G1 Primes milkers. Or the fact that the Volvo Truck is the modern Supply truck i see alot irl making it parallel to the classic Flat Faced Freightliners of the past. Basically the same spirit of the G1 but today right now. Ik that statement is overused especially for the Bumblebee designs where i criticized it ALOT(ESPECIALLY OP's design which i loathe lol) but it just feels really true for me only on this toy. Kinda how you described the Classics Voyager Optimus figure, the one with Windvane guns. Also hi Dr Lockdown lol congrats on your coming out vid~
That was actually a Walmart Marketplace listing from a seller known for making random nonsense up. It wasn't Walmart themselves. Not saying it's debunked, but it's highly unlikely.
Thought about it, but that would diminish the analytical aspects of the reviews. Maybe if there's an opening to do so in a later video. Also tried responding to a similar question in the live chat (I think it was also yours), but I think TH-cam deleted it automatically. Idiots.
Uh no, in hand the proportions look way worse than in pictures. And you conveniently ignore how if you bend the arms they shrink tenfold and look way too stubby yet also thick at the same time. Also this figure is being sold at the voyager price point without the trailer. Shattered glass repaint with a deluxe thrown in at the same "leader" price.
I'd have to disagree on those points. I find the proportions fine, arms and all But yeah the trailer thing threw me through a loop. Honestly wasn't expecting it when I made this video
@@DrLockdown Well I dunno, I think a visual seperation between shoulder and elbow is important but alright. There is also an issue with the blue paint you seem to be lucky with. It flakes hell of hard, double so since most of it is on the hands and the back of the head, both of which don't have very generous clearance for transformation. Speaking of the back of the head, for some reason, it's molded in red plastic, so when the paint literally just falls off it reveals an ugly truth. And I'll just say it's completely possible for them to have molded the back of the head in blue, and use the paint on the legs maybe. I dunno, since apparently $80 isn't all that much money.

Overall, I do find this figure rather impressive, but he did need a bit more re-tooling, mainly on the legs.
(Though I do enjoy his tapedeck mode)
With the Galvatron teaser on all Earthrise boxes and the "Sleepmode" version of Optimus they made, I'm legit hoping that in part 3 we get Rodimus. I'd adore a new version of him with the modern engineering language.
Yeah he'd be good the POTP one is just okay
I got an ad and you got a sponsor? ROLLIN IN THE DOUGH! CONGRATS!
Lol. Gotta make that cash munny
I don't understand geewuners. There was a drama becuse his hands were gray in the promotional material. There was a DRAMA becuse his hands weren't cartoon acurrate.
Accuracy was a mistake...
I'd pick between Earthrise and ss38. It depends on whether you want simple fun or complex and clever engineering. Both are good
@@DrLockdown Fast reply!
Lol. I was online anyway. I've also warmed up to wheeljack
4:08 what optimus prime figure is this?
X2 toys giga Raiden. I did a review on him ages ago
This is better than the mp 44 change my frickin mind
No, you right
How did you come up with Vaughan Vandurbar?
DND
I am someone who only gets one version of a character usually but I do this so I can get more characters unless I find an alternate use for a figure I usually don’t get another version another exception would be QC issues as I had a big one on my ER Prime so I got the Netflix one which I honestly like more
…..his legs feel like there’s a lot of vestigial gimmicks that have been cut out of it. Like, they feel like they’re meant to connect both ways????
I mean they were originally supposed to. Thats all leftover stuff from the siege version
I wonder if Dr. Lockdown ever did snip off the extra port?
I did on the OG ER prime, but couldn't be bothered on the future versions
The opening skit looked like you were power crapping
Great review man! I got this Prime and I love it! I just wish it was a little bigger. (that's what she said)
Wait for the OSKO then I suppose.
Inb4 comments saying you didn't transform the kneepads before watching
Oh I got one.
I was mildly expecting you to refer to Prime's truck mode as a lorry.
...why the hell would I do that? Isn't that a British thing?
I like taking the the robot off of the trailer so he’s just a little man following prime around
Understandable, considering you already own the original. I doubt you'd want the same toy again but in boring colors haha
If it's the right (and not boring) colours then sure. Give me Powered Convoy please
I haven’t seen you in a while, glad that your computer got fixed
Yeah was expensive
How well do the Earthrise and Studio figures scale with Siege Megatron? I’m thinking of getting the Studio one plus the Nemesis bootleg to go with but I like to have options. I still have my TR Megatron so if Siege is too small I can eventually toyhax him up and figure something out for a melee weapon
Earthrise and studio series 86 are supposed to scale with each other, although I think the bootleg prime is oversized so that might complicated things (if you're referring to the bootleg I'm thinking of)
The one I was thinking of is just a straight reproduction in different colors. Thank you
This is the first review of yours I've checked out but you instantly gained a sub for Xenoblade
Fave game of all time, especially with the updated definitive edition made. Now playing X, which is the last one I need to, before 3 drops
Does the creation of a toy take far longer then givven for this to happen? A full mold can take up to a year to make.
I didn't even bother getting kingdom Magnus. Even I have standards
Guys I’m not kidding when I say this, but me and Denny O’Neil share a birthday!
Is that the player characters robe from Fire emblem Awakening?
Surprisingly yes.
The price point is so insane with these toys, the earthrise rerelease with the dumb ramp guys was 40 bucks and it wasnt worth it. At the same store, there was a g1 blaster rerelease that was 30 bucks
Wasn't the initial price for blaster $50 in the states? I know he was $90 in Australia
Thanks mate. Yeah they're massively overpriced. You can find most of those figures on Facebook for a fraction of the price
@@DrLockdown thanks for the advice for finding them
No prob. Facebook sales are a godsend
i just wish the trailer was longer
I don’t think the length is the problem, it’s the fact it just feels so cheap and empty.
Looks much better with a coat of silver
Jeez DrLockdown get the chrome fixed on your g1 prime.
It was ten bucks. I'm not going to complain
First the seige then the earthrise, what next a kingdom reissue /s
@@DrLockdown
fair analysis
As a stand-in for a G1 Adjacent Prime, it fills the vibe for me alot more.
Me: So you prefer ss38 or earthrise prime?
DrLockdown: Why not both?
I pity the poor soul who only wants one of each character
I don't know if you know this but there is a port hole at the back of the matrix where you can put blast effects or weapons.
It is 5mm
@@DrLockdown 24:44 Nah, they will probably do it for studio series again since they are adding the 1986 movie characters.
That was actually a Walmart Marketplace listing from a seller known for making random nonsense up. It wasn't Walmart themselves.
Not saying it's debunked, but it's highly unlikely.
Hmmm thx to you i am getting earthrise prime, ill have two voyager primes now (ss38 being the second). will ss34 (dotm meg)be a good purchase?
34 is DOTM Megatron. Honestly, not a fan. The original has way better proportions, way less hollowness and better articulation.
Thank you m8
I don't really get the deal with foe parts who cares as long as he looks ok in vehicle mode and good in robot mode I don't see the problem
ok so Hoist, Doubledealer so guessing arcee will come at some point? or is that just a straight up Not Happening?
Hoist and Doubledealer reviews are already up. I ain't buying Arcee.
I've said it once, I'll say it again, 35th Anniversary Siege Prime is the best Optimus ever.
Disagree. Same applies to all versions of the siege mould, cell shading or no
God I feel sorry for you in Australia, I payed $40 for mine
Our wages and inflation is also higher. It really isn't bad from out perspective.
Knock-off desires... two words that should not be in the same sentence
You seen the Weijiang stuff? It's some good shit.
Hey Doc, I've got an idea for you. How about letting Vaughan review something while you get shot for interrupting him for a change?
Thought about it, but that would diminish the analytical aspects of the reviews. Maybe if there's an opening to do so in a later video.
Also tried responding to a similar question in the live chat (I think it was also yours), but I think TH-cam deleted it automatically. Idiots.
Hastak never delivered my earthrise prime so they refunded me.
Wait Denny O Neil died?
Rip
Uh no, in hand the proportions look way worse than in pictures. And you conveniently ignore how if you bend the arms they shrink tenfold and look way too stubby yet also thick at the same time.
Also this figure is being sold at the voyager price point without the trailer. Shattered glass repaint with a deluxe thrown in at the same "leader" price.
I'd have to disagree on those points. I find the proportions fine, arms and all
But yeah the trailer thing threw me through a loop.
The best Prime is definitely Authentics Alpha prime. SS 38 and Er Prime definitely pales in comparison. Definitely Hasbro fault.
...lol that review is gonna happen this year for sure. No more delays.
I wonder what he would look like with ss Primes legs
Lol am I the only one who bought siege optimus after earthrise optimus?
Did you make the 7-11 optimus prime or did you buy it? But he actually makes a good 7-11 truck.
Bought him. He's the genuine article
Ok that's cool
I've noticed I'm responded to by transformers you tubers only lol
Prime is cooler than Bee. I don’t mind my new version power master prime
ALWAYS ARRIVES DAMAGED EARTHRISE OPTIMUS PRIME
my Arcee figure cant transform
Are you going to get ER Scorponok?
Nope. Not getting the toy.
And what do you think about ER Hoist anyway and why?
And people say that we need an ss g1 optimus. no we dont, Hasbro just needs to reisue this mfk.
Or just repaint the colors to a cartoon palette/shade
What's wrong with g1
Nothing in concept; it's just recently they're oversaturating it
21:19 cursed.
Blame Reprolabels for that. :P
@@DrLockdown I shudder to think that someone at reprolabels has a diaper fetish
Nah it was a community joke based on Titanium Soundwave. Everyone was memeing it at the time, and Reprolabels just memed harder.
