Got to give you a huge thanks for that video! Tried it out for the plastic wood trims in my Denali truck that were so bad in shape. These products and this technique made them shine. Saved me from having to buy new trims in the future
This video saved my bacon. I accidentally got super glue on my trim. Acetone was the only thing that could removed it but afterwards it left a dull spot where the glue was. I had a bottle of ultimate compound laying around and it was a sinch to fix after watching your video!
I don’t know if it’s just BMW but your before and after still look faded. Mine are looking the same and when I look at them up close it’s almost like the wood has delaminated from the varnish coat. Thus, making it more opaque and “foggy” or faded :(
I have a volvo with matt wood trim. It does not have a shiny coating and the color has rubbed off. What should I use to even out the color before I polish it? Thank you.
Unfortunately there isn't much you can do with color that's rubbed off or even a mat finish. The only solutions for repair is a replacement, painting, hydro dipping or a vinyl wrap.
Mostly luxury European vehicles like BMW, Audi, Mercedes, Maserati, and Jaguar have the real wood interior. As far as I know, most of the other manufacturers use imitation wood grain where it's basically an image printed on plastic.
For fading and how much is removed depends on the extent of the damage. I do cover it in this video for exterior paint and oxidation th-cam.com/video/PHVRxwyrOVk/w-d-xo.html
ThePhonecat That trim I showed towards the end was a glossy plastic trim. If it doesn't have a full shine, more of a satin/matte finish, I would not use this procedure. If you are wondering how it works, you can try it on a small area that isn't visible/hidden to see the results.
comedyman112 I believe that would be the same, just a different name. It is a veneer wood finish. Has an aluminum backer, then a base wood layer, and a final wood finish that is glued on which is coated. I know that final wood finish is only a couple mm thick and I believe the base wood layer used was the same throughout any wood trim finish, then the visible layer was the customers choice.
Hi my wood vaneer trim in my BMW has gone milky/faded it really milky by appearance. How can I remove this milky lacquer, same steps as your video? Thanks

Great to hear!

Happy to hear you were able to get it fixed.
I followed your procedure to the letter today on the wood trim in my 1992 Mercedes 300CE. It all looks great!
Excellent to hear and thank you for the feedback :)
Clever boy , never thought of this . Just like paint !! Thanks
Thank you, I appreciate the kind words!
Man I luv TH-cam ❤ thanks brother
The fake wood trim on my 03 Lincoln has a few scratches… what could I use to fix that

Will the compound damage the coating?
What other type of cars have a pretty interior as such with this wood grain interior used sedans , SUV , wagons?

@@4DIYers I found one Lexus RX350
What trim is the second one?
Cubic or also referred to as Technical Graphite if I remember right.
Would these product and procedure also work on genuine wood trims? My wood is not scratched but it feels rough and dull. Thanks
Genuine wood trim is shown in the video, it just has a lacquered/clear coats finish. Unless you're referring to a bare uncoated wood, then no.
Great video bud. I have a haze look in my Denali wood trim and I'm trying to get it out, maybe this will work.
Thank you and don't forget to subscribe :)
Can I use compound that I use for scratches on the paint of my car for the wood finish?
Yep, that's exactly what I used.
What about using pledge to shine it up instead of wax ?
I would be worried about having the clear coat being dried out with pledge.
Need more lemon pledge
Will this remove fading? And if so, to what extent will it remove or improve the fading?
For fading and how much is removed depends on the extent of the damage. I do cover it in this video for exterior paint and oxidation th-cam.com/video/PHVRxwyrOVk/w-d-xo.html
This will work woth plastic wood grain right
Yes it should as long as it's glossy. You can test this on a small hidden area first.
Does this only work on glossy trim? I have plastic, slightly shiny and smooth trim?

where can i get thise woodgrain trims for acura rl 2000 ive been looking!
This is a BMW E39 in the video. Perhaps try a false wood grain wrap.
Thank you
isn't this layered/stratified wood ? i mean it's not a single block of wood. even rolls royce has layered wood

What can I use on my Audi? The wood is faded and has minor scratches

markyyyyyyyy321 I have that light haze as well and unfortunately haven't been able to remove it. I believe the clear coat is failing.
Yes the clear coat has definitely failed in my car, it's annoying! I had a quote for £300 to have it all professionally stripped back and re-coated!
You can strip it yourself, but it's bit of a job. You could do with a wrap instead or possible find other used trim to replace it.
Bit of a delay but woodgrain like this can be wet sanded with 2000 grit paper
Dried in the sun then sprayed with clearcoat
Wont cost you 300
