Aww, this brought back a lot of happy memories. My grandfather always used to have several of these crowded in his only sunny window around the holidays, and he always got the loveliest blooms out of them. I just realized that he must have really liked that large starburst shape of bloom because during the rest of the year he prized his many Clematis and Day Lilies.
Single men like myself who got one of these plants for Christmas love you! lolo My plant had 4 beautiful flowers but they are gone now so I'm going to your done blooming video now.
I don't have a green thumb but your help will give the plant a fighting chance. Thanks!
Here they are in our local garden centre they are quite expensive at the moment .After xmas the.price will be much lower .I wanted to plant three in a big pot so I shall wait to give this a go .love the video. Polly Uk

I just panted mine last night, so that means the flowers will take quite some time. but last year they were amazing, everyone in the office liked them. great video as always.

I have several I started, thanks for the reminder! My newest has just set it's bud, still waiting for the older ones I've had for 2 years now haven't been disappointed yet. Might see them in January (keeping my fingers crossed )

I've just had a large double white nymph open this morning! Waiting on my red velvet, joker, and Alaska to bloom next. Also, the amaryllis from Trader Joes have been spectacular this year too just in case no one has potted their own. My store still has them. They are the biggest red lions I've ever seen.

24jessejames They are very easy to grow. I put mine in a clear vase with pebbles. You will love growing them. The flowers last a long time.

I have my amaryllis in my garden and they are doing beautifully. I have a white double which has done so beautifully. I will definitely split them this year after they have flowered. There are five “baby” plants around it. Even the little ones have flower stalks on them. There is a total of seven flower stalks all in all. I wish I could post the flower on TH-cam so that I can show it to you. I really so chuffed.

I have a white Amaryllis, a few years, bloomed that Christmas season, but has bloomed in July the last 2 years, it is beautiful, had two flowers on it, I call it Christmas in July! So I just enjoy it in the summer, not sure why it does this.....any ideas? But I guess it flowers which is an ultimate goal, I have it in my sunroom.

I picked up a red lion amaryllis and planted it the first week of November and I had two blooms open two days ago. It got super tall before it bloomed. It measured 20 inches from the base to the tip of the bud.

I am growing an amaryllis bulb for the first time! I have two beautiful buds coming. My question is, do I fertilize to get more buds, or healthier bloom, or does the bulb itself need nothing but water for the bloom's duration??

Hi Garden Answer. I have a question about my succulents. I had babies ones propagating and when they start to grow up I put them in individual vases and they apparently stopped growing up. Do you have any idea what is going on? Thank you so much!
After planting the bulbs of these flowers and after the 1st bloom, how long would it take to bloom again do we have to remove the bulbs and dry them on the sun and replant them?

I bought some clearances out bulbs after Christmas. Planted them and only got leaves. No flower stem. This is my first year planting amaryllis. My first bulb planted in November did beautifully. What did I do wrong with the later ones?

Hi I have a question. I have about 5 Amaryllis plants. One just finished blooming n I'm just waiting for the leaves to turn yellow to cut them off n let the plant rest. Two others starting growing leaves back in the early fall but no flower. The leaves have died n nothing else happened since. Should I stop watering them n let them rest? Or keep watering n wait for a flower to come up? Also my two others should I start watering them to wake them back up or wait for leaves to come up on their own?
What if you plant them the week of thanksgiving? Will it still grow and bloom?

I have had my amaryllis plant for 8 years, and it has never rebloomed. It only gets leaves. I have let it go dormant like it's supposed to & fertilized. I am trying to put it outside this spring & summer to see if that work. Any other suggestions? The original bloom was beautiful. I want more of them! Thanks

Someone gave me two amaryllis plants. Don’t know anything about them and how yo care for them. They each have floppy leaves abd probably bloomed sometime this summer. Am I supposed to cut those back? Cut them off? Put into dormancy in a cool, dark place now, without watering?

How do I care for a bulb that never had leaves. It had one flower spike which wilted after blooming.

Is there any way to get one to bloom? I have a bulb, can't remember the color, a little bit bigger than the size of the white bulbs that I got from my aunt last Christmas. It bloomed once and hasn't since. It's shot up nice foliage twice, once after it bloomed and right now after a short period of dormancy. I honestly don't know if it'll bloom again. I know it's healthy because the 4 foliage leaves are growing like crazy.
Can you spray water on the flower after it blooms ??
Interesting. I planted one bulb and it shot a cluster of leaves first, then the flower head. A 2nd head just pushed this week. No blooms yet. I only planted mine around Thanksgiving. Thinking just before . . . life has been a blur lately. I swear I can see mine growing day by day! Not sure how to add a photo here in the YT comments. Maybe on FB?
Do you have to worry about size of roots from year to year? Will there be root rot? Do the roots outgrow the pot?

I just inherited some small, just beginning bulbs, that are from plants originating over 100 years old from a great great grandmother. They are small and I am not sure how to care for them.

Hahaha, you also had a video of using alcohol to keep the paperwhites short. Do you think that might work for the amaryllis is well?
I am so bad with plants, I even killed a cactus... But I want to know more and learn and have greens in my house. The only plant that still is living is a plant someone had thrown in dumpster and I felt sorry for it. I had to keep it at work til weather was warm enough to move it home and during that time it bloomed these huge white blossoms, almost like Easter Lily. After I took it home, I planted it over in to larger pot and it gave off another smaller shoot on the side. It was all green and ok, grew long leaves, did't bloom anymore though and when autumn came it just died off. But it has green bulb, that is firm and alive. I hope it will become alive again when spring comes... I still don't know what plant it is...but searching for pictures I have to say it looks like Amaryllis. How long do they live?

Our plant was a gift and the bulb was wrapped in a red wax, so it’s decorative. Before planting, I guess I should remove the wax, correct?

My bulb gave me 3 stems! 2 stems gave me 5 blossoms each and the third stem gave 4 blossoms Awesome!!

Depending on your climate, seasons do matter. But growing the amaryllis is summer should be fine.

I planted my amaryllis in may and I've had 5 giant leaves grow but not any flowers. I'm soo frustrated! I ripped 2 of them off.. I keep waiting and waiting. what am I doing wrong lol. Is this typical?

Maria Glover I think you need to put yours in a more sunny area and change the potting mix with more compost and feed with fertilisers on a regular basis if need be. Amaryllis bloom only once a year at spring time ...if the bulb is mature enough, it should bloom with you soon . Cheers 🙂🙌🏼

Stop watering them! Let the leaves dry out completely so that all energy goes back into the bulbs! Then cut them down and try again with new soil, a light place and a tiny bit of water. The flower buds has to come first and the leaves afterwards! It will take some time but it should work!

Are these safe for cats?
Amaryllis is very toxic to cats. It's a type of true lily and all true lilys are toxic to cats. if you want a lily, opt for a peace lily or a calla lily. They're not True lilys and the most they can usually do to a cat is cause a little discomfort. however if your cat is good about plants as mine is, and you really want an amaryllis, keep it in an area where the cat can't get to and you should be fine.

Actually she does every once in a while. And sometimes she answers questions in the videos following. You gotta remember, she does have a life and a job too. Her world doesn't revolve around youtube and her followers and she is in no way owing anyone answers. If someone is desperate to know the answer, they an easily look up the answer or care guides for the plant in question.
I bought an Amaryllis bulb at Walmart a few years ago, planted..... then replanted..... then replanted again. This is the results of that single bulb. It went from one bulb to about 17. I have had up to 25-30 flowers on it at a time, and stands about 5 feet th-cam.com/video/1AfywlRg8oM/w-d-xo.html
Stop watering, so they won't snap! You don't have to water them all the energy they need sits in their bulbs!

I would call twine an eyesore not decorative lol. I think it makes it look really ratty and ruins the centerpiece. A green twist tie or single string of green yarn tied right under the bloom head would be more discrete. Do you want flowers on display or some twine lol.
