    Thank you for all comments. I learn that there are different views regarding how to deal with the bulbs before planting: Whether remove the old roots and skin; Trim the basal or not; Soak in water or not. Therefore, I make a new video using * 4 methods to plant the bulbs and compare the results. th-cam.com/video/ADPlH-8hxH4/w-d-xo.html**

    hello very informative.. I have sown bulbs first time yesterday.. Please tell me about watering, so that i dont ruin them. Thanks

    • @SelectionLife

      Water only when the top few inches of soil get dry. Avoid watering the bulb. If the weather is still cold in your region, water sparsely. Amaryllis can stand somewhat drought, but they fear waterlogged.
      Once it has grown roots and new leaves, you can increase watering.

  • @evasohlberg2529

    I never ever peeled my bulbs or took off the roots. Just plant them as is and they grow wonderfully. Even the tiny South African ones you have. Generally South American bulbs are much larger. The bulbs contain all they need without fuss.

    • @SelectionLife

      For healthy bulbs normally we don't need further treatments, they root and bloom sooner and later. For those don't root after a long time in soil, try cutting off the old roots and some part of the basal, let it sit on the water, it will root very soon. This trick works very well.
      You are right, peeling the skin is not necessary, but I just find it oddly satisfying in doing this. 😂 I prefer seeing my bulbs neat and clean. 😅
      Thank you for comments, have a nice day!

    • @Talantova.E

    • @SelectionLife

      Yes, only the basal plate touches the water. This trick can help some stubborn bulbs to root, especially works for those with thick basal plates. If your bulb is healthy without any basal problem, just plant it directly.

    Mine never re-bloom so next Spring I may to take the chance and trim the old roots and re-root. Indid watch another video that shows it's better not to peel them before planting in the Spring after dormancy as the 'skin' acts a buffer against disease, rot etc. Any thoughts from anyone ?! Always looking for ideas for my treasured Amaryllis 😊❤❤

    • @SelectionLife

      I don't think the dry skin can protect it from disease or rot😅, on the contrary, it can become the ideal breeding ground for bacteria especially in warm and moist conditions when overwatering.But it can keep the bulb warm in autumn and winter , and by then we grandually decrease watering.

      I didn't remove the red scale because it had no sign of rot and I soaked it in an antifungal solution before planting. Later the outer scale dried out, and I removed it, and the rest was healthy. It has a flower stalk coming up now.
      For slightly infected red blotch, as long as you keep it in a well-ventilated location and sparely water it, it can recover itself. I have a video on red blotch. Hope it will be helpful to you. th-cam.com/video/4JLgJSCgRnk/w-d-xo.html

      Leaves help building resources inside for next blooming. Are the bulbs the same size or bigger than last year? If the bulbs are strong enough, try to put them dormancy: stop watering, cut the leaves after wither, lift the bulbs and store them in 5~10℃ for 1-2 month. Then take out to potting them, they will flower soon.

      Hi, Amaryllis naturelly bloom once or twice a year. The leaves will help creating nutrients to store in the bulbs for next year's blooming. The side baby bulbs will share nutrients from the mother bulb. You can divide the baby bulbs and plant them separetely, so that the mother bulb could grow strong and focus on flowering.
