- I played chess against a guy called Johnny whilst visiting Washington Square Park in NYC last summer! (This park is known for having a ton of chess players and chess hustlers). This was one of my most memorable chess games from NYC so I wanted to share it with you even if it was a while ago, hope you enjoy! :D

This dude is a serious side quest character that drops epic loot, in which is vital to your main quest.
And talks a lot
So much dialog in code.
hahahahah i love this comment
Those who can read characters know this guy is a pervert using all those words to distract.
I LOVE THIS MAN
"There are no losers in chess, it's just two people engaged in a learning experience"
Sounds as deep as any pick-up line.
this makes me want to cry
Wrong! There’s always a loser
Yes and then he dicided to cheat...
This sounds like a line from Getting Over It with Bennett Foddy
I appreciate the fairly aggressive advances you're making in the game, contrasting to your kindness and politeness to the man. It's beautiful.
I'm from germany and at the moment I am doing vacation in NYC with my familly. Yesterday I meet him and played against hin for the first time and man! It was a pleasure🔥 playing chess with him is an experience. You can not lose!
where did you meet him? I honestly wanna meet him
never mind i saw the location at the beginning of the video (and i couldn't edit my comment because my computers glitching lol)
Washington sqare Park 😁
I just played jonny chess in the park early and it was great he's so nice
I get this guy. When you get older there are fewer and fewer to opportunities to talk to younger people who are strangers with something in common. Keep being this you, Anna.😊
That’s a great observation
yes, that's true, and moreover, nothing makes you feel alive again as communicating with the young people
It's not one way either, I'm 19 year old, and there's a lot to learn about older people and their generation! It's pretty cool back in the days when things were less complicated in society
For somebody who thinks that interacting with people is his skill, he sure does monologue a lot...
i want to bring chess to retirement homes.... might be a good opportunity
I am pretty sure part of his sadness at the end was not that he lost but that the game was over and this magical moment of conversation would come to an end.
Yup. As he said, there are no losers....
I like that you have Eastwood in your name :)
@@sinnaman-dj-atrain Well, thanks. Hadn't to work to much for it but my parents. 🤣
What conversation? There was only one person talking. He never even involved her. His asking for money was not very subtle either.
She is a sweetheart tho. To put up with him.
Who does she meet at the park chess tables? This guy. But that's ok.
I played Johnny today randomly and found this video after. What a great guy. Thanks for the fun game Jonny !
I was so hooked by this video the entire time. It’s beautiful how you gave this guy the time of day to listen and engage with him, you can see how much of a difference that made. I’m from New York, and I just ADORE the vibe and openness people have there generally, as well as the international vibe. The spontaneity of people’s interactions there is what makes it such a beautiful place, and this was one of those core New York experiences, talking to a wacky and sweet human and getting some wildly cool perspectives.
Anna, you were so patient and kind with him. Good on you. I’m sure you made his day.
What do you mean?
He is on a higher level than you
Significantly, he doesn’t put weight on his word more than you do
I mean she was nice… what do you think I meant?
@@hm09235nd give up. She’s not interested
I love the way you treated him. Many people would think he was weird and walked away, but you listened and treated him with respect.
There are guys like this on every street in America. Not all play chess. You never know what their angle is. They can change on a dime so you have to be on guard.
I'm not that "kind". I've run across too many weirdos who eventually were up to no good. It's best to walk away.

Her incredible patience and kindness says volumes about her! So cool to watch. Man I was getting tired of hearing him talk, and I think he was talking somewhat to protect his ego incase he losses. Kept saying too that his talents are not on the chess board but in understanding people. But he can play quite fast and while barely looking. And when he thought she was distracted in conversation at 10:00, I think he tried to cheat. I'm doubtful that was an accident with the way he stopped talking, and looked away all nonchalantly. Felt a lot like a guilty tale. Glad she caught him! Watching ego death is really fun. 😆

I agree I can't take all of the ramblings. I am very sure he is a kind and intelligent guy but he is too much for me.
It's part of his game. Friendly, repetitive, not-always coherent chatter that distracts and breaks any rhythm or concentration. It goes with his method of play--sudden, rapid two-hand move-and-capture, trying to make everything a surprise. But Anna is GOOD, and handles the board and the opponent equally well.
