I just watched this yet again. I let myself cry like a baby when it was really close to totality it all throughout totality. My emotional reaction is beyond my understanding. But I actually really love the response because it’s like nothing else!!!

I was in Festus too. We booked a block of rooms at the Holiday Inn Express in Festus (BTW it was a great place to stay!!!) with a bunch of our kid's 8th grade classmates and their parents. It was SO FUN!! We picked Festus because my oldest sister and some other family lived there. We were all was amazed at the total eclipse! I cried like a baby! It was so overwhelming and beautiful and beyond my wildest expectations. We experienced so much of what you captured in your video. We noticed the "weird lighting" at one point, and then the night sounds... and the stars... and the "360 degree sunset". All of us cheered and clapped as well!! Your filming and commentary brings me right back to that day. Thank you so much!

The moon just didn't seem to appreciate their applause.

Yeah thanks for the upload. I was there also in Festus. The people there were all very nice. I thought it was interesting that while we were waiting for the event to start, you couldn't see the moon at all even though it was up in the sky near the Sun because the Sun is so bright. Also one of the really big telescopes that was there was showing that as the eclipse was starting, the ISS space station transited in front of the Sun at the same time. pretty cool. People who I talk to, who didn't see it can't understand why took off work and I traveled 300 miles to see it. Even though I knew what I was going to see, my whole family and I were totally blown away by how amazing it really was. People around us were crying and cheering and there was a certain energy in the air. The crickets and the frogs in the nearby stream were going crazy and the bats and the swallows were zooming around and the air temp dropped about 10-15 degrees as a cool breeze blew by. Indiana 2024 for me. A long duration total eclipse is going right over my house in Milwaukee WI in 2099, unfortunately I don't think I'll be there to see it.

Hey guys, thanks so much for posting this video! I was at Festus too and really enjoyed re-living the experience with your video. I added your video to a blog post I just posted that looks back at the eclipse a year ago: www.nancyatkinson.com/blog/2018/08/21/total-solar-eclipse-one-year-ago/

I will going to a remote area free from crowds, all that cheering and yelling ruins it, I want to hear the crickets and nature sounds, not a bunch of goofy people yelling, Oh My God!!!
