I'm so happy for you Plukky, great to see such quick and efficient progress in only 5 days...I reackon you will have a hull in maybe six weeks at this rate. Cheers from FNQ!
Wow Plukky what an incredible team you found in Vietnam!!! I am so happy for you and it’s obvious they have some very skilled workers in that factory. This was well worth the wait Mate and we can hardly believe how GOD worked things out for you. Brilliant Mate, just Brilliant. Cheers Plukky.
Great to see this boat finally coming together. And no disrespect, but I'm glad you elected to have a professional team put it together for you. Looks like they're doing an excellent job. La Vagabonde just had their new Rapido Trimaran built there in Vietnam. Had a massive amount of bureaucratic BS to wade through to get it out of Vietnam once it was finished, though. Hope you don't run into too much trouble in this regard. Looking forward to seeing this beautiful boat come together. Congrats, Plucky!!
When I see a person’s dreams coming true it’s like having my own dreams come true! Especially if it’s someone I care for and admire. Good on you Capitan
wow, last I seen you floating ariund parlay in san blas, old cat a distant memory. Super happy to see an alu build, my favorite material. we built 2 alu cats and several alu patrol boats. I lived on one for 3 years and will be using one as my retirement home
If made correctly, the cooling time of aluminum welds take longer for the base materials to reconstitute themselves, just because it looks and feels cooler than at the time of welding, doesn't mean that the welder can continue. That fact alone will extend the building time. I won't even guess for construction to be complete.
Actually , Alu increases it"s strength through ageing. I am working in automotive engineering , I am impressed by the way they control tolerancting. In automotive , they sacrifice the tolerance on the passenger side to make the fit and finish on the driver side look good. Here they rectify the problem by compensating the center , eliminating deviation.
They do bloody good work Plucky, compensation for distortion and tidiness along with attention to detail are out of this world. Those standards are insane. Look forward to seeing your boat grow 👍👍👍👏👏👏🏆🏆🏆😎😎😎
Congratulations on starting the build of your Odisea 48 in Vietnam! It's amazing to see the quick progress you've made in just five days. With such efficient work, you might have a hull in just six weeks! It's great that you're sharing the construction details, showcasing the expertise of these professionals. The structure looks incredibly strong, and they are doing fantastic work. You've really found a remarkable team in Vietnam, and it's clear that they are skilled workers. This journey was well worth the wait, and it's brilliant how everything fell into place for you. Cheers to you, Plukky, and keep up the fantastic work!
Plucky, you have done it all, you have lived! But it's great to see that you're dream is being created. Soon you'll travel the world, and I can't wait to see!!
Greetings from South Australia. Nice to see your boat in progress, Peter. I am looking forward to seeing the complete build. Thanks for all your past videos.
It's impressive how they are building it right side up. I've never seen it done that way before besides wooden boats. I really like that extra support on the bottom but I bet that adds quite a bit of weight. That extra support will for sure protect your boat if you were to hit something with the dagger boards or if the hull takes a strike. That's a nice option!
Wow, astonishing how quickly a build can progress with modern materials and practices. I'm gonna be repeating myself a lot in the coming videos, just so happy for Plukkie. Looking forward to many new adventures in this remarkable vessel.
I got a brief shock when I saw the overlap at 5:14; that's not allowed. Thanks for the immediate clarification that this is only a temporary retaining plate... My forecast for the finished hull is 5 months at this rate of progress. Thanks for the video Plukky!
I am very fortunate to have some very learned Friends on my side like Albert and Braith and a host of others on my Chatgroup. Good on you guys...if you see something suspect then let me have it but these guys really know their standards. Head guy has 25 years with total experience of more than 100 years - episode coming out on this soon
I’ll follow Albert’s lead and piggy back he’s estimate of 5 months to complete. Awesome insights with the build construction. It’ll give prospective customers great confidence that they’re not only buying the “fastest” and best “value” catamaran… but also the “safest” … with its oversized keel. Woohoo. :o))
This is truly astonishing Pete... how you actually pulled this off is well beyond me! This looks more like an 'intergalactic spaceship'! Congrats mate... build of a lifetime! Crack on!
Great to see your happy smile and the CAT build starting. Yard teams look professional, this gone be a piece of art 💫very nice too see your dream coming true
Good choice, my Friend,,, much better to have the expert team build your boat. I wager 3.5 months to complete the shell. Good luck! I anxiously await your return to the sea. 💖💖💖💖
Love the construction video. Keep them coming. As a now retired manufacturing person, I understand everything they are doing. Gantt charts, standards etc. Most of my experience is in steel, but I am familiar with Al. I say, like others, about 12 weeks to complete before moving to interior.
Years ago a Mate of mine used to hate welding aluminium cos it would often melt somewhere away from the weld area but he cured the "problem" by clamping a piece of clog iron behind the weld to act as a heat sink.
My estimate is 45 days minimum. Good for you Plukky to finally have your dream catamaran being built. Yes, they do not lose any time, however I do hope you can get the structure built fast. At this rate of progress I hope you have all the structural wish list items on the drawings. What about your Swisse young lady that was to help you with your end of the finishing work? Take care and once again congratulations.
Very exciting Plukky. Funny to see you in a hard hat! Vietnam built La Vagabond's trimaran so it seems they have become excellent boat builders. You have survived many things and have risen from the ashes. It will be an amazing day when you set sail again.
They do? Yuck. Don't understand the attraction of monohulls with wings. Ok, it rides flat. But it's still the same 2-3 suffocating layouts monohulls have... V berth double bed at front that is never comfortable, lounge area in middle, then kitchen, with people either sleeping on the two sides on the lounges or in two "coffin" berths in the sides at the rear. If you're going to build new, if you're going to have something that's going to cost more than a monohull every time you dock, then build a dual hull catamaran with a floor connecting everything together, that has more space, everything accessible from inside instead of climbing "outriggers" to dig through looking for things (if they have any storage out there at all).
@@teeanahera8949 I think you need to slow down and read what people are talking about before launching into replies. No catamaran ever built has a V berth. Because catamarans don't have the main monohull up the middle like trimarans do... which is what ronm3380 mentioned La Vagabond's new boat is, and which is what I was relying to. ;-D
Really excited for you Pluckster. As a fellow owner of an aluminium cat I've always been a fan of the Cyber 48 but thought it needed a bit of modernisation along with saloon windows profile change, all of which you have done. It's gonna be one hellova boat. Keep up the build vids.
Awesome!!! Amazing its coming together so fast. Those dudes are the real deal. At least you know no reef can harm your shield of aluminium!!!! Its the Viking Cat!!
Great video Plucky and your boat will be built quite quickly I think. The Vietnamese workers obviously have pride in their work. Relating to wind turbines I saw a video where they have 400,000 old blades to dispose of in Texas. Cut into 3 and buried. Sustainable energy but at what cost to the environment?
Glad to see you finally getting started. Not seen anything like the size of that yard. I find it amazing how Vietnam has developed since I was there setting up a business in the early 1990ies. They are a people that t really want to get things done.
I worked 3rd shift at the Quincy shipyard Boston.. Welding, tacking dogs and moving bulkheads. Salarmies to fare hull shape. Welding is art melting metals what a joy.. you gotta try it relaxing hard work. Good pay ~
So good to see physical progress after such a long struggle. Good on you mate! Lesser men would have given up long ago. I'm sure the struggle is far from over but you are obviously made of the right stuff. Can't wait to see it sailing.😢
Congrats Peter! exciting times! Yeah they're not messing around, you're in the right place by the look of it, if they break out the bamboo be a bit worried, though bamboo is strong too 😁
Magnificent! I'm going to throw out a guess of 8 months to complete the shell with all those guys working on it 6 days a week. They get more done in one day than you (or anyone else) could do in a week. Manpower! If a build takes a shop 10,000 man hours to build something that they know how to do and have all the tools, it would take the average builder at least three times as many hours working mostly alone. Spending time getting set up and cleaning after, going out to get supplies, getting occasional help when more hands are required... Yet many inexperienced boat builders think they can do it in less time than the professionals. Dreamers who usually sell the project after a number of years of work and they are burned out and beginning to see how many more years it will take.
It's coming together nicely, loved seeing around the building plant. Learning about other things they produce there was cool! Thank you for sharing this exciting journey with us all on YT, really looking forward to following the build.

I think your shell will be built in 6 months or less the way they're going. Pretty exciting!
looking forward to watching how this team knocks it out in 4 months for bare boat, fit out 5 months + delays = 10 months
Looks awesome, can’t wait to see finished product
Amazing to see some hulls being formed.
It’s going to be fun watching this cat come to life. Aluminum is a great choice. Solid.
Congrats Plucky, all your hard work has made it happen. 😎👍
Wow Plucky ❤
Wow it's going to be an amazing cat
Glad you are getting a new Cat. Longreef was such a nice boat.

Very impressed! It's better than I thought you were getting, but I had no idea you were getting such a kick ass cat!
Good to see things coming together on the boat build. Looking great,Peter!!
I'm so excited for you plucks. My guess is 44 days. Nice to see a spring in your step. Well done Odessa to get in on the challenge!

Thanks for the update, Plukky. I figure 5 months to weld the frame. Don't forget quality control and redoing welds .
