    Your skills are amazing, I love your work and both welding skills and wood work skills are top notch. I wish you all the success, and I hope people will see your work and filming skills, because your channel deserves to be recognized and loved by much more people. Keep up your awesome work and love for your boat and van. Thanks from Martin from Norway 🇳🇴

    The Spirit 72 is magnificent with fabulous wooden boat building skills. You've found a great boat, hope you can do your best work on it. As regards moving it, I would look for a suitable trailer even then the hull only is probably around 7 tonnes? Perhaps in the UK see what options you have to get it towed, there are networks where trucks move around looking for jobs, some people take an interest in moving unusual loads. Although the canals are probably the cheapest method, at least in Europe.

    • @SailHub
      @SailHub  23 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Hey Tom! Thanks mate, yeah the boat is great and we are really excited!!
      The move has problems as it’s associated with moving through several countries. This outs the price right up there despite its weight of only 3.5T. The weight sounds good, and the shallow height too (no keel or rudders) but a beam of 3.8 that can cause the transportation problems apparently.
      Basically all of the import export paperwork, time at several places on the journey pushes the price really high, so high that it’s just not an option. In fact it’s insane.
      So, it’s going in the water! We have a plan now which is fab… We just have to implement it 😂

    • @Tomm9y
      @Tomm9y 21 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @@SailHub That sounds like a 'convoi exceptionnel'! With a beam of 3.8, perhaps she'll be on her side for any road journey. I guess it depends on your route to Scotland and your build site, would be easier under cover. A benefit of the lifting keel is that you don't need much of a slip or tidal range to get her afloat at end of the build, should open up more and cheaper options. The first leg to the canal/river sounds like the trickiest. I can't imagine Irish ingenuity, flexibility or accommodations in the local approach to the issue. I'm sure it will work for you.

    Great start to a new adventure! I'll be following along for sure.
    Getting a bare hull from Switzerland to Scotland is an adventure in itself. I think you mentioned the French canals, but the Rhine is also navigable from the Swiss border at Rheinfelden all the way to Rotterdam. A 20hp outboard on an improvised bracket, plug some holes, a bit of ballast and away you go.
    Best of luck from Pete in Wanaka, New Zealand.

There are reasons for all designs, materials and equipment and we intend to point out giver best usage along our journey. I guess what I’m saying is we want to remain factual as opposed to opinionated.
      As for the woodwork, we will be doing all sorts of it in the future but the boat fit our probably won’t be what be expect! 😉…. What I know is that it will be a good test of my skills I’m sure!

    TH-cam made a great suggestion at last! Nice project, I have an aluminium Koopman 35 from 1982 with wooden topsides and interior, no idea who built it though. Being in Spain the issue becomes getting materials and finding the skills to do the work I cannot do. Previously I worked for VT, Pendennis and ANT which took me to Blohm & Voss and Lurssens as a Marine Electrician / Electronics technician and having spent time working on a wide variety of small craft and super yachts I know good design and workmanship when I see it. I'm imagining your project will be a cross between Sampson Boat co. and Distant Shores, so my only advice is "Keep It Simple" as I can see you are already very quality minded.

    You could of made a plaster and glass mould of the other bulb ,25 - 50 mm thick would have been enough then thicken it up when you got home. this would have given it some drying time as well . i have made bulbs using this method before and it works . mixing the plaster and raw glass no resin just allow time for all the moisture to be gone . then place the mould in a sand bed for pouring . anyhow that's a great looking boat you have found , looking forward to see it being finished off. Aluminium is the best! But, LiFePO4 batteries on average have energy density of ~120 Wh/kg. That of diesel fuel is almost 12,000 Wh/kg. So to replace one jerrycan of 20 liters = ~17kg of diesel, you'd need 1,700kg fully charged batteries. For that reason I have serious doubts if going for fully electric is wise; I'd go for hybrid (like Distant Shores) if you plan to make ocean voyages.

    • @SailHub
      @SailHub  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yup, I presume you think we don’t know about energy density.
      Our journey is to document the evolution of electric. In our eyes it doesn’t work yet and we intend to get as close as we can to making it work by building an ongoing prototype test bed.
      We’re putting the reality out there for people to see so the fact is, we’ve got a something in common, your comment is exactly what we’re showing. It’s not the usual build and we’re thinking outside the box in every way possible to reach for better efficiency etc. it’s an interesting journey and to date we’ve just been planning the first year!
      Anyhow, it would be cool to hear your thoughts as we progress,
      Cheers, Chris

      @@SailHub I'm not surprised at all you guys know 🙂 Yet, many people don't realise/know the immense difference in energy density, so I thought it was good to mention. Interesting journey. Let hope there will finally be a much much better battery; will be good for all of us. (For a 22k-subscriber channel, I commend you for responding and so quickly!)

    • @SailHub

      @cornelisvanderbent8569 yeah the difference in density is catastrophic! It’s going to be a huge factor to overcome. Let’s see how far we get! 😬
      We try to respond to comments as quickly as we can, we need people to help us shape our videos and channel, we’re right at the beginning of this and want to make it something with value for people. Only our audience can help us do that!
      Hope to catch up again 👍⛵️

      Being shipwright I can completely see where your coming from here. We’ve been getting on with a lot over the last 6 months and we need to get the basics confirmed before we even bother making a start. We’re pretty much there now, just the van to finish off and we’re on it!

    There was a Bruce Roberts designed (if I recollect correctly) aluminum hull in a similar state of completion near here. It was advertised for a few years. I don't know if they ever found a buyer. The fellows widow had it for sale. No motor, no mast etc.

      Cool boats the Bruce Roberts, they are well sturdy sea vessels. This one’s a Berckemeyer design.

    That's a really nice platform that you have to start with! How did you find it? I've seen you on Odd Life Crafting a few times. Glad that your getting a boat and a damn nice one at that. Looking forward to the fit out. Personally I would find the closest water and then motor it to the UK. You might be able to borrow someones trailer and tow it to the water. That would be ideal rather than paying a transport company. I'm about ready to build a Cyber 48.

    • @SailHub

      Cool! Now there’s a build to watch! Epic!
      We saw it years ago when KM sold it but it was out of our budget. After that I kept looking, I’ve wanted an aluminium hull for years now…. We were just about to set sail in our Najad across the Atlantic and a friend told me about this gem, I found it advertised online in German, I thought it was a scam as it was clearly the same boat I saw 2 years previous. Anyhow, we put our boat up for sale traveled to a field in the middle of nowhere and there she was.
      We decided if we could sell our boat we should do it. Our boat sold in 3 days!!
      As for the Odd life bunch, great guys! We’ve spent quite a bit of time together now, I’m really looking forward to seeing their project develop, we’re like carbon copies of each other with the van build too! 😂
      Oh yeah, the transport thing, for sure although we don’t really have any friends in Switzerland… but that’s the plan, drop her in in Basel and up the canals… that’s should be comical!

    Thats an insane price to ship that boat. I believe you could ship that across the US for $2-3k. Its not a very large boat hull and probably not very heavy. I guessing my Dodge Ram pickup would be able to tow this hull.

    • @SailHub
      @SailHub  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Your dodge would be perfect for the job. I’m told she should weigh 5T with the ballast on. The problem isn’t the distance, it’s four countries and the time taken for import export paperwork and finally putting it’s all on a ferry to our little island. Still, a frightening cost!
