So great to hear from Lisa, and so glad she is doing okay and, of course, would be great to see her back again...fingers crossed! :) :)
She is coming back definitely
Really enjoying the series Peter , it’s so refreshing to have an a knowledgeable person like yourself explain what makes a cat stable or not in terms that the average guy can understand, thanks. Also really glad to hear that there is a possibility of Lisa coming back ,you and her are in my opinion are the perfect match and she is a great asset to the channel, fingers crossed
No fingers crossed needed.... She is coming
I really enjoy these knowledge talks. I'm actually learning a lot and have already changed my mind on the yacht I want to get based on the knowledge you've shared.
Now that is great news...I am glad you have just saved your life
@@SAILINGintoFREEDOM Hyperbole.
Don't place too much emphasis on what was said in this video. When he doesn't even mention the weight factor in the Stability curve it's obvious he's no expert. Watch the Ruby Rose video on Stability for an actual experts take on capsize likelihood. A performance cat like the Mumby is much less stable than a Lagoon or Fontaine pajot for example.
@@laurapitre5797 Even the screen cap for that Ruby Rose video shows a skinny hulled cat flipped on its side... I can flip a Hobie Cat over myself. It'd take the entire nation of Tonga to flip over a Lagoon/FP/Leopard. Be real. In a serious storm, everything is going to capsize, and no design considerations are going to affect that.
hahaha, bet ya want a Mumby
Nothing but quality Plukky!!!!
Top job Plukky. Top job!!!
When you were talking about reading the weather in previous episodes, I actually understood the logic. You are an incredible teacher. Just spent the last 2 hours checking out Mumby cats. Amazing boats. Good on ya…
I get it right once in a while...🙂
That is Lisa telling about the dream she had. I pay attention Plukky. Stay safe and good luck with your new adventures. 👍⛵️🙏😎✌️
Thank you Peter. What a great piece of knowledge to have.
Seeing Lisa always puts a big smile on my face…. And the boat chat was interesting too, keep it up guys!!!
Well be having lots of interesting videos
That’s awesome to hear from Lisa, and yes, would be super awesome for her to be involved with the build. Go Plukky and hopefully we see you come on down soon Lisa. 👍🙂👏👏👏😍😍😎
🙂
Wonderful to see you met your kickstart goal.
Thanks Lydia
Very nice to get a hello and check-in from Lisa!
Indeed
Great show plucky
Great series Peter and bloody good to see Lisa back. What a team, to have the two of you on a Mumby. That's worth being part of the Kickstarter program.
Damn tootin
Lisa on board... Great !
Indeed
Sweet! Thanks Lisa you made my day.
Now thats quality people. Love it!
And me?
@@SAILINGintoFREEDOM Always good to see you.
Sweet...you got Lisa on board . Congrats ! Exciting.
Well not yet... Gotta build the boat
Like the way you explain it Plucky ! Good luck with your build .
Thanks my friend
Bloody love the no bs version plucky!!
No BS and no viewers....ahhh Sailing into Freedom, the worst channel on TH-cam
loved the surprise ending
I sailed mono for 12 years, never thought of a cat the way you explain the goods and minus. But I learned something today from your methods. thx Peter ~
You're welcome M
Very pleasant surprise seeing Lisa again. I am looking forward to seeing Lisa back on your channel.
Me too
Like always, top stuff pluckky!
Lisa! Lisa! Lisa! Woohoo!
Woohoo indeed
Good educational content Plucky!
Thanks
Good info to get out there
GREAT ADVICE PLUKKY
Thanks
This series makes me want to build my own boat. Good stuff, Plukky!
Ah and hearing from Lisa again is great. Would be a blast having her back in a few videos.
Well join up and we'll have a factory together.. About 3 others in line too
@@SAILINGintoFREEDOM I'll join ya! Gotta have a female there for balance! 😆 LOL!
I'm also looking at building , in aluminium
Me too!
When your talking serious boat facts, its really enjoyable, normally you're entertaining and jovial, but this blog was EXCELLENT
Wow.... Butt still doesn't get the numbers
Thanks for explaining this
Yea to Lisa. Nice to hear and see her. Good on ya mate !!!!
Thanks
Don't need no math to know that the cat I chartered in South Fla years ago was a pig! A real wallowing sow! I've owned monohulls from 22 to 45 feet, once sailed my first boat a 10 foot catyak, in an Easter "blessing of the fleet" event in St. Aug. LOL. I'm unfortunately too old now but I will enjoy seeing you on your Mumby if I last that long! HURRY UP will you? Love you man!
You know the score then... Will build it as fast as I can ... Don't die... How about that for good advice....
Great video Peter. While I can't afford a cat, your teaching style is first rate. Nothing but quality people... 👍😎. I've almost watched your entire library of videos. The "raw goodness" you provide...keep it coming Sir.
Thanks CC for the comment and confidence boost
Awesome info
U r 1 lucky plukker that's for real. Great job plukky. Sail on my friend

You're welcome
You're so full of knowledge that you don't need those good looks! You have it all 😉🤗
Oh Krista thanks... I wake up pass my mirror and shake my head.... But thanks anyway
G'day from Brisbane, long time viewer and enjoyer and now a kickstarter, mate. Good to hear an AUS accent . Understand all the nuances of "our" language.
Woohoo Alan .. You bloody ripper. Thanks for the support my friend
Important stuff, weight, hull shape, rig height and type. Wharram has done more research on this topic than many other designers. He spells it out very clearly. Thanks for the content.
sweet video. so smart. ordinal walkthrough of cat vs mono performances and drags.
Thanks
Nice job mate 👍
Another good and informative video Peter, its should not be seen as scaring people but giving them the right information to make an informed decision on what to buy.
Indeed but some already own those bad cats are are trying to justify the purchase
Everyone watching this should contribute to The Elcano kickstarter. Plukky's going to lead the way!
Thanks Alex.... Top stuff
LISA! You truly are an ANGEL 💗🤗👍(Plukky, remember to go slow for the first year of the build!)
The fuse is lite Pee pole Peter is back heathy and ready to make this happen as you can see in this video ! Yes knowledge is power ! Thank you !
Thanks Neal
OH YES , SURE DO MISS LISA . Your looking lovely, great too see you again. Really enjoying the content Plucky CHEERS AND FAIR WINDS Steve h.
I prefer this calm correct knowledgeable Peter from the crazy one. Please continue like this and you will get more visitors. Thanks for great information!
Likely not...if I had a girls bare back and thong I would get 2.5M
Interesting stuff about catamaran stability. Most of the cats I've seen are bloated and catered for island hopping. Really happy to see Lisa is doing well.
And she is coming back
Absolutely spot on Captain !!!! one of the main reasons I love Wharram Catamarans. they are V hulls and the mast isnt 4 stories high. they are really the best bang for the buck when looking to do some 4x4 offshore sailing. stay safe and keep up the great content !
Great to see Lisa again.. the Cat' stuff is also interesting :D
Thanks
Great video plucky, great advise and it would be great to see lisa on your channel again
Mmm pineapples
Yes don't forget the pineapples . By the way do mumby do plans for a 38 footer and where do you go to enquire about plans
Great video Peter! Good to see Lisa again glad she's doing well and would be great for her to be involved with the new boat, think she'd be a great asset (and payable in pineapples :-)!)

Beam centerline my friend
Thanks for this, makes me feel better. I have ordered a Seawind 1370 and I calculated the BCL/WLL = 41.3% and I regularly crew on Seawind 1260 and it has BCL/WLL = 43.2%. These boats also have a very low boom. Good all round 🙂
True but a bit too heavy for my liking
@@SAILINGintoFREEDOM I agree, it is a very heavy boat for its length. Based on your previous video I suspect you also don’t like the big opening between the cockpit and saloon?
Good luck Plukky! I wish you success with building your new home. But more importantly- catch that girl! She's the one for you!
So everyone says
Haha, Lisa coming back, blood awesome mate. Here from down under 👍
Awesome and she is going to help build it... She will probably want lights and pineapples tho...
@@SAILINGintoFREEDOM love your vlogs mate, legend
Had the 'pleasure' of crewing on an Outremer 55 Light on an ocean passage. Total fkn rocketship mate. Exited the barrier reef doing 15 knots under full rig into the ocean swell, withing 30 minutes we had the boat completely airborne 3 times, big crash as it hit the water again. It took a couple of reefs in the main and rolled up a good portion of the jib to slow it down to less than 8 knots in order to get it to stay in the water. The repeated slapping of the bridge deck still interrupted our sleep. We nicknamed this boat the vomit comet, even the hardiest of crew who had never been seasick in their lives were chundering over the side.
Really? What angle was the wind, and what angle was the swell
@@SAILINGintoFREEDOM The wind was around 60 degrees on the starboard side and the largest swell was also coming from the same direction. There was also a smaller swell coming in just off the port side. It was when the swells coincided at the right time was when the boat got airborne. The owner had the boat for 5 years and never been offshore and neither had we, although we had a bit more sailing experience than he did mostly sailing dinghies and trailer sailer's. I quizzed him about the lifting off and asked if this was the way he normally sailed the boat, and whether he thought the boat would still be in one piece by the time we got to the Solomon islands (from Cairns). He looked at me and said, I don't think so, lets slow it down.
@@SAILINGintoFREEDOM The right question. The La Vagabonde Outremer has clocked speeds of up to 20 knots (!) and although it freaked Elayna out, it certainly didn't get "airborne".
@@leonaessens4399 yes, young alan thought he was airborne but a 55’ boat doesn’t just jump out of the water under 30 knots 🤣
@@leonaessens4399 they were running with the wind behind them at the time though.
I was going to click off the video...and then she appeared! Glad I stuck around . :)
Me too
Yes!!! Let’s get Lisa back! Miss her face. No worries, we love you too Plucky!
Awwww schucks
The new cat project is very interesting. With Lisa as well....unmissable!
Top stuff
F^%kin "A". The lovely Lisa. That would be great. Good Luck Plukky.

Hey thanks for the videos yep I like the LWL BWL stuff and share the same thoughts on the newer cat designs vs the Mumby style. I have bought a Grainger 1250 cat, it is beamy, narrow hulls, great bridge deck clearance and very streamlined. I love it! She is fast but does have mini keels which are good for beaching which I have done a few times. Great to hear you are building a Mumby! Keep up the great info and love the ladies! 😎👍⚓️😘
Now we have to get everyone else on board to stop them making bad cat choices
Great episode! Some thoughts:
- Physics and math are the king! You might don't like it but it will decide about your safety.
- Base on my experience on the performance cat the easiest way to make a tack is to do it fast when the bow is raised by the wave. When you find this moment you will know :)
- Maybe you will find Bruce Roberts books about metal boats handy.
Please continue this series and all the best!
That's my friend...I liked looking for the flattest spot and I had no problem.... You get one every 20 seconds or so depending
Hey there Mr plunky guy, you're at it again doing this and that and a bunch of stuff. Tons of info there about catamarans and such and I can't back up my mind if you don't mind. I Miss Lisa, she's the best of them all and they've all been good. Well there's a rainstorm outside right now in the middle of the night so I'm going to go check it out. Thanks much you impressive young f e l l o w and catch you next time and I'm not kidding, bye
Thanks Jim for the comment
Look forward to this big challenge and donated to your Kickstarter. If anybody can do this, you can Peter.
Thanks DJ... It is going to be interesting indeed. Thanks for your support my friend
Watching you create an ocean going, round the world, aluminium Mumby 48 built to last for decades to come which is also self sufficiently powered/'watered' by unlimited natural energy is quite some dream to 'show us' Plukky... much respect mate!
Having just checked that you have now easily surpassed your 'All or Nothing' Kickstarter Pledge your dream certainly looks like it's about to become reality... couldn't happen to a more deserving TH-cam sailing hero in my opinion! Your singular determination, grit and authentic lived experiences here on TH-cam more than qualify you to be the 'Optimum Bloke' for this ambitious and progressive, 'Earth loving' sailing challenge Pete!
Sincere good luck Cap'n... I'll be following all the way!
P.S. Would love to help with any basic 3D design projects/plans/ideas or even online 3D design tutoring... when/if needed.
Thanks Artiz... What a nice thing to say. Top stuff my friend. And thanks for your offer for 3 D design but all I need are the plans 🙂
@@SAILINGintoFREEDOM Probably... 'plans' only go so far though ar Pete! Visions are a little more difficult to 'show'!
th-cam.com/video/ZODTgHDZyng/w-d-xo.html
P.S. Can you imagine having a 3D printer on board which makes high tensile replacement broken parts? Now that really would be the height of self-sufficiency. Sorry... getting a bit over excited now!
Very educational Plucky ,good sound information as well as technical advice.serious stuff. On a lighter note to avoid capsizing don't fooking sail,, by
Thanks
Hi Plucky, also worth talking about is the Displacement/ LWL ratio and the Sail area to displacement ratio and the LWL to hull waterline breadth ratio of a single hull, and of course the bridgedeck clearance, all of these items define the performance of the Cat.
You are right Kev... Doing one factor at a time otherwise people would get bored
@@SAILINGintoFREEDOM very true! But as you said it’s not something the big production yards want to talk about.
Best part of the video= Lisa!

Hi Lisa!
Hi back
U know mate u've really given us good ideas about mono vs cats, u know what i found out for yrs, they've been always comparing d big diff of cat against mono, ive heard them same as urs so some people prefer for trimaran,.. all these yrs i kept on thinking same thing, "prefer for safety ness" , i love to built my own boat terrible thing s i'm too old for sailing..
Well you can watch me build it
LISAAAAAAAA!!!!!! WOW THAT WOULD BE SO GREAT!!!!!!!🤩🤩🤩
And she's coming
Nice video
Hi Peter, I like the sound of this project, it's worthwhile and it has ambition, in career terms, it could be a defining moment for you 🤞. For me, you come across much better when you're not 'pretending' to be stupid as you are 'reasonably' bright. Nice one, I'll be supporting and watching.👌
Yeah but I still do stupid things.... Go figure..... Better to be proclaimed stupid and surprise people occasionally ha
lookin forward to the build, come back lisa
Indeed ... Me to
Thanks!
Woohoooo..... thanks my friend I don't know what to say
Thanks mate! I just discovered your channel and I enjoy your videos and explanations about it all like this one. I have watched quite a few so I did subscribed. Thanks for warning peoples about the LAGOONS cat, after several videos one thing missing about that producer. You and others did not say about WOW MUCH CONFIDENCE that they have in their design and the corrections about the bulkhears problems! When a compagny gives ONLY A 1 YEAR WARRANTY after replacing the bulkheads or reinforcing it , that says it all. Buy from someone else....WE HAVE NO CONFIDENCE IN OUR CAT. On a better note have a great succes with your NEW DREAM of building that electric MUMBY 48!! HAVE A GREAT ONE!!!🌍🌎🌏🗺
Welcome aboard and thanks for the comment my friend
@@SAILINGintoFREEDOM SORY: MUMBY_MUMBY_MUMBY 48
Great discussion Plukky. A certain TH-cam channel has their cat literally separating and tearing apart and I thought “wtf in Sam Hill and how does that happen” then they discussed Jimmy rigging it to make it to South Africa. Deathwish. I have learned a lot from these videos.
And that is gradually happening to some other brands too
Not to forget the hull water line length to hull waterline beam should be 10 to 1 or greater for higher speeds and less wave making. So 4.8 feet wide at the waterline . Great work
In an upcoming episode my friend
Thank for keeping it real Peter. Top Stuff
Lisa!
Even though I agree with most of your information, I still own one of the production cats that you hate. I went into it knowing the compromise. I've sailed multihulls nearly exclusively for nearly 50 years, 14' to 84' including foilers, and appreciate what is needed to sail it safe. Basically, they don't give you the feed back when they're loading up like a monohull does and things can go south fast. It comes down to sailing ultra conservatively and knowing your boat and it's limits. Love your channel!
True... But don't you think it's a pity that you gave up the speed? The Mumby is plenty stylish in side and super easy to clean because it is just one surface ..I know people on a big heavy cat and they spend 2 hours a day cleaning the damn thing...so many nooks and crannies and the joinery had to be replaced every 5 years.... Crazy
@@SAILINGintoFREEDOM All true, but when she agreed to this “hair-brained scheme” my wife got final say on boat. All my criticisms of it’s particular model didn’t mean anything to her at the time, but now after 3 years, she gets what I was concerned w- inaccessible boom foot, high center of effort, dependence on Isenglass for protection at helm, segregation of crew between helm and cockpit. Still I wouldn’t have put it on the option list if I didn’t think the compromises were acceptable for us! Keep up the great episodes
I’m agreeing with your wife 😊
lets hope this leads to some new inspirations in the marine architecture sphere, perhaps plucky has found his calling, to design better cats and trimarans.
Heaven help us
Everybody loves Lisa

As always, looking out for the people. Thank you for all you do. When are you expecting to be back on the water?
3 or 4 years to build even with the Kickstarter...I mean if it went ballistic I could be back within the year
@@SAILINGintoFREEDOM I will pray for ballistic. Hopefully you will do a video off and on so we can follow your progress.
Way to Go LISA!!!
Thanks
Woohoo
So Lagoon cats have serious bulkhead issues and they're super heavy. I'm surprised they sell any.
This is interesting even if I'm not looking for a boat. Thanks Plukky. Buena suerte, cuídate.
Lafail I mean lagoon isn’t selling I sure after Colin from sailing parlay came out and brought it to their attention. Lagoon denied fault but after 110 other boats that have not ran aground or hurricane damage they finally admitted it. So padding their pockets made there customers sail on unsafe boats. That a spectacular company. I want one of their for sure Lafail 450 JT
Crazy I know but people are a bit ignorant
Lagoon serviced the charter fleets. Altogether now; that's an entirely different kind of boat
But people (not knowing pigs) said, I'll take that pig across oceans
It would be worth further study, even though known now that many people have gotten their knowledge (and their dreams) from what they've seen on You Tube. With fervent eagerness I look for thw day of that pack moving to some other thing.
Well, they are supposed to be floating condos in the med, doing a short champange sail to the next marina every now and then. They are good for their purpose.
I hope you know how decent and intelligent you are. Your experiences you have had due to having huge balls and a drive for more makes you someone very special and priceless to an employer if you ever wanted to make big money.
Good on ya cobber.
