Thanks so much for your video. I was at the fabric shop today talking about the cielo top and a lady recommended moving the dart from the armhole, and I told her I didn't know how! Now I do! I so appreciate your thorough explanation :)
Karina, brilliant lesson, as usual. You explain and demonstrate so clearly. You are my sewing instructor and my sewing inspiration. I am sewing the Seychelles top and I’m going to take a look at those bust darts right now!
So helpful! Every time I watch your videos and I have a question, you address it a little further on. I really appreciate the detailed explanations and demonstrations. Thank you!
This is just what I needed Karina. I am getting ready to make the Cielo and I was a little bit worried about the full bust adjustment. I will make sure to look at this agian before I cut it out. I really need to work on the bust of the Style Arc Kendall wrap top though. That did not fit at all lol. Between this and the full bust adjustment video I might be able to adjust that one too!! Thank you.
I can’t believe this tutorial I am just about to cut out a dress from a Simplicity pattern where the dart is a long angled dart and isn’t anywhere near where it should be, I will give this a go thanks again Karina.
I suppose, if you wanted too, the dart could be swung back to the original position after making bust height or fba/sba adjustments. Mist also mention how much I like your top. The detailing on exposed facing still really makes me smile. I'm going to have to go back and check which pattern that was and make sure it's on my list.
You can do it, it’s just the inverse process. Draw a line from the bust point slanted to the side above the waist notch somewhere. The lower dart will most likely be a wider dart but the fit will be the same :)
Oh how I wish your video was around when I was making my Reef top! I had to move the dart by 1.5" (they've since updated the pattern to make it lower) and I finally figured it out but - how much easier it would have been!
Since I am a newbie , do you have any videos on making adjustment in ready to wear and not patterns ? It looks easy for advanced sewer which I am not lol nice though 👍
The channel is mainly about sewing garments from scratch and there are not many adjustments that are possible with RTW that are easily done. Type of the search bar lifting pins and needles refashions and you can see some of the projects I have re sized to fit me.
Any ideas for a pattern that has marked bust below the dart points. Side points above and waist is higher and next to bust on side seam side, I am confused trying to fit it, either need small and FBA or reduce length from shoulder lower arm by same and move darts
If you need an FBA, don’t worry about where the bust is marked on the pattern. Just draw your lines through the Center of the darts until they meet and that’s your pivot point. After doing the FBA, the bust point will become a little lower and then you can adjust the whole dart (raise or lower it) by cutting it out as a rectangle. If the waist is too short, you can add length afterwards. Your question is very confusing towards the end…. Your last sentence.
@@LiftingPinsandNeedles thank you. I have a toile in progress and have reduced length by taking the shoulder seam in, which means lowering the armscye to keep the same arm length, but i do need less shoulder to upper bust length at least on neckline. so if i adjust this way i will need to move the darts. but if it's similar no matter where these are then i think i can play around and figure it out
I see. The shoulder should not be modified like that. You can’t take the shoulder in to shorten the armhole. Have a look at this video to see a neat way to do this th-cam.com/video/ygNl_jmQo8g/w-d-xo.html
I mentioned it several times: this is in preparation to do fitting adjustments and having a straight dart makes it easier to measure the bust height and adjust and also, if needed, a full bust adjustment or small bust adjustment. This is a bonus episode in response to multiple questions I’ve had over time about people being confused with angled darts for their fitting. The armhole dart definitely is not one you can make fitting adjustments to. That’s why it’s included here. This is optional and won’t be needed for some patterns or preference of the sewist.
Thank you for your perfect explanation. After watching many videos on this topic I finally got it .Thank you again!
Thanks so much for your video. I was at the fabric shop today talking about the cielo top and a lady recommended moving the dart from the armhole, and I told her I didn't know how! Now I do! I so appreciate your thorough explanation :)
OMG I did it! I had the angle dart and followed along on my pattern and it worked. That was so fun and interesting. 💗

great information
Glad it was helpful!
I love French darts so won’t be moving them but am happy to have learned more about moving or closing darts.
This great information. Thank you for sharing with such patience and clarity.

Happy to :)

Amazingly awesome video, Thank you very much, my problem is solved. Thumbs up & subscribed. Many blessings to you and your family :)
Thank you! I’ve been wondering how to make an FBA on my Cielo. You’re the best!
Thank you so much.
No worries :)

Great info as usual! I've always wondered about changing those lower darts higher. Thanks for all your info in this series!!
This is a bit of a specific one in response to so many questions I’ve had on these angled darts :)

Yep. After the bust adjustment has been done, the dart can go anywhere :)
@@LiftingPinsandNeedles Thanks for confirming my suspicions. Karina, you have worked wonders for my confidence at the sewing machine.
I’m
So glad!
The beautiful top is Itch-to-stitch Seychelles top.
Love this! How to make a french dart from regular one?

I know this is a very specific video and I wish I’d made it sooner :)
Hello from France. Thank you for this lesson, and your red top is so beautifull. Did you sew it? Where did you find the pattern? Thank you

You discuss how, but why would you want to move the dart? Maybe you can explain that to new sewist.

@@LiftingPinsandNeedles ok i thought maybe there was more to it because all darts are for fitting adjustments.
