Karina, I’ve only watched 2 of your videos; I realize where my sewing education has been lacking. I feel so stupid now. If I keep watching your brilliant videos, I’ll be far more a competent sewist! ❤❤❤
I took a class in FBA and when the instructor realised I have 6 inches difference between high and full bust and narrow shoulders she more or less ran away and left me wondering what to do. I have watched many videos and made umpteen changes on different patterns and I all but gave up. So wow this video is brilliant. You have explained it perfectly and shown me how the rest of the pattern should look AND done it on my size and not only on a size 14. Thank you so much xx
@@LiftingPinsandNeedles yes thank you it was great and you explained it perfectly. I don’t have a lot of time to sew at the moment but definitely going to practice fba to get a great fit. Thank you so much x
I am so excited to try the y!! I'm getting ready to try a new pattern, so there will be many adjustments (not my favorite part) if this works better for me the money I will save!! Thank you so much for this information.
This is very helpful for me because I sew for my daughters . All 3 girls are different from each other and totally different from me. The"Y" added just enough to help my middle girl, thank you! I realize I'm watching this again 2 years after you filmed it but i needed to review so thought I'd let you know 😉
Karina, There is no contest between your explanation and ANYONE else's I've seen. Particularly your point at 10:40 when you show that if you don't have the high bust measurement, you need to calculate it. Brilliant! I have watched a ton of videos on this and no one else clarifies this crucial point. A THOUSAND THANKS.
Excellent! I have a very full bust and have made many full bust adjustments, so I’m quite confident making them. I’ve also been sewing for over 50 years. But, this is the most comprehensive and most clearly explained process for bust adjustments I have ever seen!!! Very well done! ❤❤❤
Thank you Katrina for this video. It is the absolute “best” explanation of bust adjustments. When I first started sewing (many years ago) I could buy a pattern, choose the bust size and it fit perfectly. Now that is not the case so these adjustments are necessary for a good fit. You have made this process much easier. Your video isn’t long, it’s “informative”. 😊
This is brilliant! Every FBA video and explanation has left me fearful and anxious and you have explained it so simply I finally get it. Thank you so much Karina. You are an incredible teacher.
Another terrific video from you. It must take so much time for you to put these tutorials together, and then share your expertise with all of us. Thank you very much.
This is great. I’m a new sewist, about to start my THIRD muslin but I’m determined to figure this stuff out early and I learned SO much from this tutorial. Thank you! Subscribed!
Karina, I just want you to know that I appreciate you so so much. You give us so much amazing information. My sewing has improved by leaps and bounds since I have subscribed to your channel. That is the absolute truth. Thank you so much for all the time you spend teaching us .
Love Karina’s Annie Top and just had to come here to learn the FBA adjustment. I’ve been avoiding it because other tutorials were confusing to me (photo and explanations). This is so easy to do and can’t go back. My first woven top as a newbie. Learned a lot and enjoyed sewing it so much ❤️🇨🇦.
This is THE BEST explanation of FBA I’ve seen. It makes so much sense n u explain it so well with how the pattern is cut n how to make an extra cut for those of us that have a big difference in the high bust n full bust measurement. Thanks so much
Thank you so much. I have always had problems with the necklines being way too big and the shoulders hanging off. Now I know why and how I can fix it. Your explanation made so much sense. Thanks again.
I love the way you explain things to us. You say take your time to figure it out. Thanks so much for putting in the time it takes to make us understand sewing and fitting.
OMG!!!! I just tried my first fba and what a difference. I’m so happy with the outcome. I did have a slight issue with the darts but I know how to fix it thanks to this video. Thank you for sharing. Your videos are so helpful. I learned to sew via TH-cam a year and a half ago and especially thanks to your how to videos.. You are so talented and a wonderful teacher.
Karina: what a great explanation. I’ve been wary of making myself a button down shirt because the pattern I wanted to use, needed a FBA. Now I’ve worked along side your video et voila! It’s done. Thank you!
Thank you so much for doing this! Very helpful. Last year I went back to garment sewing and was having a terrible time with the fit. I have a 4-5 inch difference between high and full bust and my garments were gapping across the top, and very ill fitting because I chose the pattern based on my bust size. I didn’t know any different, I didn’t know about the high bust measurement or FBA’s. I’ve learnt so much in the last year , much thanks to you.
I’ve watched FBA adjustment vlogs before and lost the will to live, so, consequently failed to accomplish.... you’ve now made it really clear for me and I can have a go now! Thank you
Wow the very best video on FBA! I have been watching so many but this one is the best. Do you have the same but for pants adjustment? So clear, so well explained, thank you! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Imo the solution to a huge, unwieldy bust dart is a) split it into 2-3 parallel darts; or b) shift some of the dart fullness to the shoulder for gathers or pleats or tucks or sbirring. b) would also have the benefit of not distorting the armscye which is always nice. You would be altering the design of the garment, but why not? (I have a 6 " difference between high bust and full bust myself.) I love all your tutorials. ❤
Thanks for the in-depth demonstrations and for including all the larger adjustments for an FBA. I'd forgotten about the "Y" adjustment I'd learned from a Palmer/Pletsch book so thanks for that reminder. I didn't realize Itch to Stitch included D cup sizing in their patterns so thanks for bringing that to my attention.
Well explained! Hope this encourages more people to start with better fitting size overall and do the FBA they need. It give such a better fit and look. And once you have done the adjustment a few times is not that complicated and so worth the little bit of extra effort for the result. 💕
It’s long because it’s meant to go in depth. I’m interested in always explaining the “why” and that takes longer than just saying “it’s like this” and nothing else.
I’ve been waiting for this. Never thought of myself as full busted but recently measured and I have 6-1/2” difference. No wonder shirts are huge in the shoulders or tight in the bust
Thank you so much for this video - I've watched so many videos about FBAs, but this is the first one I've truly understood. Confident that I can try and put this into practice now!

Thank you so much for this video. I’ve been trying to understand how to do a full bust adjustment and I’ve gone through several videos. Yours is by far the best. ❤️
I have a 10” difference from HB and FB, and so even with a FBA I don’t like the look. Darts too big, and the waist ends up way bigger than I need (my waist is 8” smaller than my HB, so I even have to grade my bottom without the FBA) BUT THANK YOU for the quick mention of the Y adjustment at the end. I almost clicked out before you mentioned it, so I hope someone else bigger than an H sees my comment so they can watch to the end! I can’t wait to try it and see if I like it better
This was VERY Helpful. Thank you sooooooo much for sharing. I did my first time ever draft. I sew for my daughter and several times she’s ended up with ‘pancake’ bust 😂. I’m excited to try. Again…thanks so much

I know my makes will look better with an adjustment and I have a TNT top pattern that is only 2 pieces that I am excited to follow along with your video and try it one on. I have put it off too long I need to dig in and learn how to do the FBA that I need. Thanks so much for your excellent tutorial on this I really appreciate it!
Thank you for your deliberate, thorough explanations. And on a rather delicate subject no less. You handled it like a pro. I have bookmarked this page so when I sew clothing, maybe I'll actually get something to fit! LOL
Karina!!! What can I say except a very, very big thank you! I fall into the H cup category, so this tutorial is more helpful than you can imagine! This issue has put me off sewing for many years, so 🤞🏻🤞🏻 this will assist me in making garments that I might actually get to wear 😉😂😂 Ps Although I might need say an extra 4” from a D to an H cup in the breast area, I may not need the same 4” at the waist, so either I can bring the waist in, or I can put in waist darts 👍👍👍🌺🌺
Hi. I am starting back sewing and I am using this video to share with others call I make a full bust adjustment along with making adjustments to my waist and my hips! I know what you know when it is done.😊
I have an 8 inch difference between my high bust and my bust so I used the Y instructions. Never have seen this before. Amazing. This made my front waist too large. How to I take some extra fabric out of the front? The back is just fine.
Most of your comments say that you are amazing on these FBAs. I just want to say that as well! I have since chosen you as my go to advisor for all things sewing. Really really nice work Karina!
I'm new to sewing and today I tried on a muslin of a top that I made. It seemed too tight on the upper chest. My high bust and bust are equal so I'm essentially an A or smaller cup. This video explains why it was tight in that area! I chose the pattern size based on my full bust, but really I should be choosing a slightly larger size and then potentially adjusting to decrease on the full bust. Thank you for clarifying! I am sure I will rewatch this video several times as I get more experienced - there is so much information in it that went over my head :D
Hello Karina what a wonderful class Karina it makes my head spin at time’s but you are so good at explaining and I may have to repeat my watching and maybe I will get there. In time . Love Janet.
Very informative. I am petite in height but heavier in the waist and hip. Therefore, I always have to adjust patterns for a great fit. Your tutorials and resources really help. Thank you
Thank you for explaining when to use the Y full bust adjustment. I didn't realize that when I first was learning how to fit my bust, I was using the Y FBA which I didn't need. I fluctuate between a B and C cup. I didn't understand that I was creating extra room on my chest area which I didn't need. I appreciate your detailed, clear and thorough instructions! Now I will review the patterns that I gave up on and see if I can figure out the fit on the bust.
I love all of your videos and especially the fitting ones! Your explanations are so straightforward and easy to understand and thank you for that. I do have a question on being short waisted with a full bust. Which adjustment do you do first please?
Hi! This was a good lesson, thank you. I'm current doing a dress that has a bust dart but also a waist dart. How should I go about doing the bust adjustment in this situation? Do I first move both the darts in together at the armpit or do I just ignore the waist dart? Or does the waist dart just grow when the piece under the bust dart is moved...?
Hi Karina, thank you so much. I have never done a FBA before, I certainly need to as my high bust is 37 and my full bust is 42, but your tutorial has given me the confidence to try. One question though, how do you know what a specific pattern is drafted for as I can’t find any mention for cup size on the pattern only height.
Karina, thank you for this tutorial, Yes it was long, and the repetition was really helpful. I have watch FBA tutorials in the past and effectively (mostly) made them but your explanation and reinforcement helped me understand more about them. I suspect you've helped me solve the ongoing problem of gaping armholes. I think I'm choosing a base size a little too large, and doing too small a FBA. I have a 7" difference between high and full bust and narrow shoulders. I'll try that Y FBA next time.
This demonstration is just fabulous. I’m going to try it out now. I think Love Notions has full bust versions of patterns which is super helpful. They have done the work for me.
The full bust piece does have a limit though. 4-6” high bust to full bust difference. So there will be people who need an FBA on top of what’s there already.
I just tried my first fba and omg what a difference. You are a great teacher. I learned to sew about a year and a half ago mostly thanks to your how to videos. Thanks for the perfect instructions again! I do have a question. When I pivoted to do the fba, the armsyce had a slight overlap. Did I do something wrong?
I think it would also be good for adding 1.5” to the pattern that is already working with larger cup sizes. Like from a D to a G. Otherwise, it’s not necessary.

I fix the length first and then the bust. I want the waist at the correct spot.
If it does not say, it’s most likely a B cup because that’s the standard. What brand ?
Karina, thank you for this tutorial, Yes it was long, and the repetition was really helpful. I have watch FBA tutorials in the past and effectively (mostly) made them but your explanation and reinforcement helped me understand more about them. I suspect you've helped me solve the ongoing problem of gaping armholes. I think I'm choosing a base size a little too large, and doing too small a FBA. I have a 7" difference between high and full bust and narrow shoulders. I'll try that Y FBA next time.
I'm hopeful you will be happier with the fit once you attempt this again :)
Thank you!
Thanks for showing, so useful to see "how to" on paper, brilliant :-)
You’re welcome 😊
I just tried my first fba and omg what a difference. You are a great teacher. I learned to sew about a year and a half ago mostly thanks to your how to videos. Thanks for the perfect instructions again! I do have a question. When I pivoted to do the fba, the armsyce had a slight overlap. Did I do something wrong?
You can have the slight overlap in the seam allowance area but it won’t affect anything. The length of the armhole will stay the same.
really like this series of tutorials on fitting. Could you do the Y FBA on a smaller size difference?
I think it would also be good for adding 1.5” to the pattern that is already working with larger cup sizes. Like from a D to a G. Otherwise, it’s not necessary.
well done I think I understand!
