    Thanks for the review Brett and Finn. I’m looking for minivan-class stability but don’t plan to run distances over 50 miles. Would the Caldera 6 still be a good shoe for me?
    My 2023 objectives are still coming into focus but I’ll likely do the Borderlands 50K (a new race in SLC in May), DC Peaks 50 mile, and three or four 40ish mile non-race long outings.
    Looking forward to more great CP content. Thanks!

    • @ConversationalPace
      @ConversationalPace  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Caldera 6 would definitely still be a great option at 50 miles. Especially a more technical race where the extra stability is important. Where the shoe really will be beneficial is during your training for those races, having a reliable shoe that can handle a ton of gnarly training miles.

      @@ConversationalPace I've got a credit at the local running store so thinking about the Tecton's but I've heard mixed reviews on their durability, so waiting. I did just pick up a pair of the Salomon Pulsar Trails and am super impressed, set some downhill PRs in them out at Smith Rocks recently. Be curious to hear your thoughts on those. Also, don't really know what new shoes are in the works for 23, might be interesting to know what shoes you're excited about hitting the market this year.

    • @ConversationalPace
      @ConversationalPace  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@DSRenner the only durability issues I've heard of for the Tecton was outsole peeling on super technical terrain. There are definitely other shoes out there that get more miles per dollar. They do have a great fun per dollar ratio 😅

    Good change of pace. Up for 2023 will be my first 100 miler. Not to be negetive but it would be great to get an additional tester on the east coast for a technical terrain opinion. It seems nearly all shoe review shows are from reviewers who don't experience technical terrain like we have on the east coast which is not like any other terrain in the US.

    Hello, thank you for posting this video on Caldera 6. I have flat feet and looking for the perfect shoe to wear for Camino de Santiago. Would you recommend this shoe for that purpose? I intend to walk for 18 to 20 kms a day for 35-40 days. Thank you.

    • @ConversationalPace
      @ConversationalPace  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      On paper, this shoe would be fantastic for the Camino. I would definitely recommend trying it on in a store if you're able to, because even a shoe that checks all the right boxes needs to fit your foot properly for such long days. The Caldera certainly has he cushion and grip for the Camino! It would really just all come down to the fit of the individual wearer.

    Tried them on, sent them straight back. They are wildly less comfortable than expected, also the toe box is really narrow and shallow (toes touching upper) for my Dutch feet.

    • @ConversationalPace
      @ConversationalPace  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Ahh that's a bummer to hear. The toe box definitely isn't the roundest or highest volume. We should be getting Caldera 7 in shortly, which did get an upper update, so be on the lookout for that review with some fit comparisons to the Caldera 6

  • @tomekwolny5606

    I really wanted to love this shoe, as I love Brooks but aftyer 200KMs, the narrowness in the toebox so bad, that I cant use the shoe anymore.
    It would cause a serious pain on the outside edge of my foot and no way to relieve it. Lock down was also a problem if I loosened the laces, very disappointing.

    • @ConversationalPace
      @ConversationalPace  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I noticed that while the entire toe box was wide enough for me, the shape of the shoe caused my big toe to rub against it, even though I had plenty of space on the other side. In that category of shoe, the Hoka Mafate has still been one of my top choices.

    Got these based on this review, BF discount to 80.
    Cant be any good, must be a boring slow shoe right?
    Damn i took in on two long runs in the snowy icy hills, superb.
    From the hills into the city, superb. On tarmac, very decent.
    Beats the Speedgoat 5 by a mile, anything that NB makes.
    And they might beat the Asics Trabuco Max 2, my shoe of the year.
    Brooks can surprise in a good way!

    • @ConversationalPace

      it's crazy cheap, got them for my GF now at 69,-
      I need a road shoe version of this shoe (and i seriously hate anything else I have from Brooks: Cascadia 17 went back, the adrenaline 23 GTS is a great shoe to schedule in my rotation if I need a rest day but know in advance I will go out to run anyway. Put this shoe on the calendar and I def will be a good boy.
      The Trabuco Max 2 is still a great shoe, but am so in love with the Caldera 6 that currently the Max 2 is unused;
      The Caldera 6 just disappear on the feet, nothing is magic good nothing seems great, it is just .. gone..
      I think that is why it is overlooked in the reviews, and the fact that it is a boring Brooks.
      But it is soo good, I run this with a gaitor instead of the Speedgoat 5 GTX, and I hate wet frozen feet.
      Looking at the Caldera 7 I, and i feel this might end up to be the NB fresh foam trail X which is my worst shoe of the year.
      Might be a good series for CP: matching beloved trail shoes with their road equivalent. @@ConversationalPace

    • @ConversationalPace
      @ConversationalPace  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for the feedback on the Caldera! We've definitely thought about a road equivalent section, but we've found that we desire in a trail shoe isn't always the same as for a road shoe, and that many of the road equivalents don't end up being what we actually want on the road. With that being said, from a dimension standpoint, some shoes that are similar to that Caldera in terms of width and stack height that might be worth looking at are the New Balance FF 1080, Topo Specter, Hoka Clifton, Brooks Ghost Max 👍

    The shoe is/was a huge disappointment - and the worst running shoe I’ve ever run in. Restrictive upper wi no give, low volume and narrow in an old skool style. The ride is just hilariously vague - there is no feel of what you are running on surface wise. Is just as bad on technical trails as they are on smooth forest path. Also heavy enough to notice. Stack makes them even worse wi a divorced from earth feeling to rival the very worst. Know of 3 other runners who sent them back to Brooks quickly. I kept going, they got worse and then sold em on eBay for £30.
