    After sighting in at 60 feet, I could easily cover 5 shots with a nickel th-cam.com/users/postUgkxQt2uORDRfFOVSrO4idv4B90ThT6EOnEL ! Truly a pleasure to shoot! Scope was easy to adjust for eye relief. Only problem the varmints must have seen it delivered lol!Update: So impressed with shot groups at 30 yards I purchased a Hammers 3×9 with adjustable Objective scope! Now a true nail driver!

    I just shot my .308 RPR for the first time today.
    This is the nicest shooting rifle I have ever fired.
    The trigger is perfect, there's very little recoil, and that short barrel with a muzzle brake isn't as loud as I thought it would be.
    It shoots great too.
    Ruger nailed it with this rifle.
    I put a Vortex Viper 4X by 16X ffp moa scope on mine.

    Interestingly I just stumbled into this review having bought this rifle(Gen II) yesterday, also in .308. I am indeed excited. I'm looking into glass right now and for sure it will be a Leopold or Vortex piece. This rifle had better shoot well because I paid $1079USD and I'm looking at doubling that with an optic. I am impressed with their trigger.
    I've got a Ruger SR762 and SIG716 that both shoot sub-MOA so I expect much from this gun. I hope I am not disappointed. I often do "pairs" so if all works out maybe next year I'll get the .243WIN because I do like long barrels. Don't kid yourself, size matters! I'm too much of a traditionalist to jump on the 6.5 Creedmoor bandwagon. It can't kill a paper bad guy any better than the long proven above Winchester calibers and if I need something in between I've also got several .270WIN rifles.
    I'll be working up loads using Sierra 175gr TMKs and Nosler !80gr Ballastic Tip & AccuBonds on top of IMR 4895, all of which I use religiously in my ARs.
    Thanks for the positive review. It makes me feel a whole lot better after emptying my wallet.

    I've one of these in the UK in 6.5 creedmor with an over barrel suppressor. No mag limit restrictions either. Love this thing for fclass 1k yard and farm vermin duties. Not lightweight especially with a nightforce 8-32nxs scope but worth it.

    The "bolt carch" only works with some magazines. It catches on the follower. Sodepending on your style of shooting you may or may not like the "bolt catch" type magazines. Also, many forget to mention that the stock lovks in the folded position. Just turn the button down.

    Move to Texas, in the U.S. we don't ban anything here :) and Damn I bet you paid more for the scope then the rifle.....Leopold? I paid just under a $1000.00 for my RPR 6.5 Creedmoor and just over $ 800.00 for the Vortex 6-24 x 50 and must say it worth 4 times that. Happy hunting in Australia mate, wish I could come by for a hunt.

    nice shooting! cheers from the usa. i see your optic is calibrated for the FGMM 168 g smk's .. but consider the FGMM 175g smk for 1000 yards and beyond.. great bullet for 1000 yard shooting, and is even less affected by the wind. ruger really makes some great firearms.

    I purchased mine from a privately owned shooting store about 5-6 years ago, the owner said 997.00 and I handed him 700.00 down to order, didn't have any in store. It's the first model Ruger came out with and my only bolt action rifle.....don't need no other. Mount my Dead Air Sandman L suppressor on it and groups are still tight ..... Love my 6.5 RPR. The store is probably selling for higher price now ...now that it's in high demand, 3 months later when the rifle came in and I went in to make my final payment and pick it up he asked me ...."Say Steve, how much did I quote you on the price?" in those 3 months and after he had a lot of orders for it and I'm sure charged more, I paid what was left + tax ( 1.057.00 I think) and walked out.

  • @ron4627

    Nice honest review as usual. I had a chance to buy a new RPR in 6.5 Creedmoor sight unseen from my gunshop but I let it go because I'm a lefty and I was concerned that the stock adjuster might give me problems. I was lucky enough to put about 20 rounds through one of these in 6.5 Credemore at the Sureshot Range near Mount Auburn in Iowa. I had never shot at a range before and was amazed at the accuracy achievable. I won’t be buying one because it doesn’t suit my style of shooting but this is one really accurate rifle on the range.

    Ozzie Reviews. Pretty good stuff with these budget priced rifles and Factory Ammo, shooting off a Bi Pod not a benchrest and giving great info, thanks for that. Can I just point out when you measure your group size with those precision calipers measure your group from the outside of one bullet hole to the inside of the furtherest bullet hole that will give you a much more accurate reading of the group size. Just a thought, thanks.

Most of my shooting is done at the range so would have to consider others! Maybe stay with the recoil and use a moderator!

    Thanks for the review, I’m weighing up between this and a tikka t3x. I’m looking a a long term 308 and both are roughly in the price range I’m looking at. Did hear that a rifle like this might become illegal in Nsw due to its design. I’m looking at pigs, deer and range shooting Which one would be the best choice?

    • @jdee4462
      @jdee4462 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is considered a precision rifle, so i am assuming it will be heavier and much more cumbersome than a typical hunting rifle design like the t3x. Probably not suitable for hunts involving long walks.

    G'day Aussie, I love what the rifle sounds like in this video. What microphone setup do you use? I can't seem to get it dialled so it records the low frequencies at the start as well as crack towards then end. Cheers legend.

    The trigger on mine is set to 1lb which makes it just sweet. Run 140gn Hornady 6.5 ELD's and this thing literally is a tack driver. It's a shame certain states down under ban them just because it looks "military" and dangerous.. It's nonsense so keep fighting to get this into your cat B class.

    So could I theoretically legally own this in NSW if I change the standard adjustable stock for a fixed one? This state seriously sucks some arse sometimes. Meanwhile, basically the rest of the country is ahead of us.

      As I described in the desktop part, I have the CDS dial system on it which means it's sighted in at 100 yards and to shoot at 200 300 400 500 600 700 etc yards I just need to turn the elevation on the CDS dial to 1, 2, 3, 4 etc etc as it's matched exactly to my rifle and load. Have a look at this video if you'd like to see exactly how it's done: th-cam.com/video/JDvO6i1O12U/w-d-xo.html

    The bolt hold open is due to the pmags not the rifle. Run any other magazine and you won't run in to that issue.

    • @ozziereviews
      @ozziereviews  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sure I understand however the calibre of the rifle will depend on how the scopecam works to capture the shot, but I'll play around with it...

    Ozzie, why do you think they only put the .308 out with a 20 inch barrel and the 6.5 and .243 have got 24 and 26 inches respectively. I wish they had the longer barrel for the .308 as well.... :(

    • @ozziereviews
      @ozziereviews  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I trust their judgement but it's easy enough to replace the barrel with the length you wish. Plenty of custom barrels available for the rifle :)

    • @ensom
      @ensom 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      20" barrel is plenty, it's what a lot of shooters use for 1000 yard competitions... short stiff barrels actually tend to be more inherently accurate, they tend to have better harmonics.

  • @mrnickbig1
    @mrnickbig1 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Why does everyone (Aussies, anyway) get the bolt hold open wrong? It depends on the type of magazine used! PMags will hold the bolt open. Most AICS competition magazines will not. It stems from the follower design used. Also, why does no one have enough sense to polish out the machine marks on the bolt body?

  • @AENeuman26
    @AENeuman26 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    I'd like to know what adapter you used to attach your bi-pod to the Sampson Keymod rail. I used the supplied Keymod pic section and added the stud to the middle of that rail, in lieu of the screw. I tightened the two screws and the stud as tight as possible. At the range, their pic rail wobbled on the forearm and made it impossible to lock the bi-pod's cant, even with a Pod lock locked in place. Their rail just will not remain stable on the round forearm.

    • @AENeuman26
      @AENeuman26 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Never mind, I see you covered that. If I cannot resolve my issue, I'll purchase the Seekin's RPR V3 fore end with the M-Lok groves. I'm not keen on the Keymod system..

    • @ozziereviews
      @ozziereviews  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Use some Loktite to keep them tensioned or if you don't like the keypad system, buy a different one, that's the great thing about the Ruger, just get the AR hand guard that you like :)

    • @AENeuman26
      @AENeuman26 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I believe that the RPR's barrel nut would require relieving a portion of any other MFG's forearm, along the bottom. To my knowledge, only Seekin's is making an RPR specific after-market forearm, which has the proper relief and includes a barrel nut to attache their forearm, the RPR V3.
      If I get a Seekin's ( they are mostly on back order for the M-Lok versions ) I'll want the M-Lok. The Seekin's is more rigid than the Sampson & it is also flat on the bottom, which stabilizes the rifle on barricades, etc.
      Before I spend another $179; I'll see if I can replace the KeyMod inserts with a tapped oblong piece like the M-Lok uses, which most likely will require removing the forearm to attach the rail on the OEM Sampson part.
      My opinion, and maybe I'm attaching the KeyMods incorrectly, but I've put them on three different times and cannot get them stable when the Harris is mounted: I do not like KeyMod. But I did look at a lot of KeyMod related videos and, as the design is open source, noted that some of the other KeyMod mfg's provide an insert which appears to have a marginally larger surface for gripping the inside of the rail. Maybe it is only Sampson's inserts--provided with the RPR--which will not withstand sideways torque forces on the Pic rail.
      And if I failed to mention: Thank you for all the work you put into your videos, always, with great enthusiasm included.

    FYI The "last round hold open" is due to the bolt catching on the mag follower. This will happen on Magpul mags, but necessarily on other brands of mags. This a mag issue/feature and not due to the rifle.
