Ruger "Precision" Rimfire Rifle 22 Magnum (with accuracy testing)

  • The Ruger American Precision Rimfire Rifle in 22 WMR gave outstanding accuracy results with Remington 40 JHP and Federal 50gr JHP out to 100 yards. I wasn't impressed with accuracy of the 22lr version of this rifle that I reviewed a few years ago but the 22mag version has certainly impressed me. It was so much fun to shoot.

    Firstly great video Ozzie . i have the 22lr RPR i tested a range of ammo brands and found the CCI 1075 Target shot extremely well. zeroed at 50yds and took it out to 200 which had a 1/2 inch group . ive recently tested the SK long range which had 1/4" group. nice to see the 22mag review though thanks for this video

    Nice shooting! I was surprised that Remington came out the winner. I've got some Norma match on order. Anxious to see what it will do. After running the full gambit of rifles and rounds (up to 50 BMG), I always come back to the .22 LR and .22 WMR as the most cost-effective way to have fun shooting. Teaching my grandson to appreciate it, too.

    Well worth the buy. I bought mine early 2023 after going back and forth on it for nearly a year. The goal was to actually get the 6.5 Creed but considering the lame shooting ranges in my tri-county area, there'd be no point... and that rifle is way up there in price, never mind the cost of ammo.
    Ruger Precision has such a satisfying trigger. There's no travel and ... as the pros say... "breaks like glass" and there's not much reason to adjust the weight of it. I stuck a muzzle brake on mine just for aesthetics. If you choose to stick anything on the end, be sure to have some crush washers or the fit may be wonky.

    I know this is a little late, but I figured I would let you know that 15 round Ruger Bx stick mags are available for the .17hmr/.22wmr. They are made by Ruger and are just like their .22lr 10/22 mags. They run very well especially compared to some aftermarket mags. I recently bought a Magnum Research magnum lite chambered in .22wmr. It's basically a clone of a Ruger 10/22 that has a better build quality than the 10/22's Ruger is currently offering. It came with a 9 round Ruger factory rotary mag and a 15 round Ruger factory bx stick mag. I ended up buying 2 extra 15 round stick mags right from my local gun shop when I bought the rifle. I live in the US, so it might be easier to find the mags here in the States, but I know I've seen them for sale online. I would imagine you could order a few magazines online as long as your local gun laws allow it. Hopefully, Ruger or someone else will produce a 25-round mag for the .17hmr/.22wmr. I would love a 25-round mag for my rifle. The 9 and 15 round mags just seem to run empty fairly fast when using my semi-auto.

    Try the CCI 40 grain Gamepoints in your rifle. I would also try the CCI Maximag 40 grain bullets. I have an old Ruger stainless steel 77/22 Mag heavy varmint bolt action. It's picky about what it shoots well. It likes CCI 40 grain Gamepoint and CCI Maximag 40 grain. At 100 yards it will shoot either into just under 1''. The lightweight 30 grain bullets tend to be far less accurate out of my rifle. However, the older Remington polymer tipped 33 grain bullets would group into 1 1/2'' at 100 yards.

    • @boingkster
      @boingkster 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi mate, 22 Mag is a bit more expensive but especially for small game its a lot more useful. You're talking about the difference between 1200ftps (40gn projectile 22LR) and 2200ftps (30gn projectile 22Mag) muzzle velocities - the 22 Mag has about 2.5 times the muzzle energy.
      Bulk 22LR often costs around $70/500rd or less. 22 Mag is often about $200~250/500rd, expect to pay a bit more for higher performance ammunition like Hornady VMAX for example.
      If its purely a range rifle and you want to plug away without too much worry about cost a 22LR is perfect. For something that will see field use I'd be looking more toward the 22 Mag. Either would be fine for both target and field - it just comes down to the cost of the ammunition and your personal preference.

      @THE WOKE-ING DEAD Good point. The 17 Hornet is also a really good reloading calibre as it uses very small amounts of powder yet delivers great performance and generally good accuracy due to the demanding tolerances of 17 cal rifles leading to good quality commerical examples.

      100rds of 22lr is 8.50. for a comparable varmint round. You can buy 525rds target for $33
      Really depends what your goals are for the gun. For Planking, rabbits, squirrels,frogs, coons, ground hogs. The 22lr would be perfect. If you want to shoot foxes and coyotes as well I'd go with the 22wmr.
