@@bigbeef8935 For my goals, it did not take long to decide on 300 PRC based on ballistics, factory ammo, price of ammo, and recoil. This rifle in 300 PRC is a pleasure to shoot and easy to control. I've taken mine out to 1.5 mile (2640 yds), but 2000 yds is more fun (.500 hit percentage once I was on).
I've been on the fence for a while about one of these, mainly due to ammunition costs, but with buying reloading supplies lately, it takes the cost down to about 1.68$ a round. So.... Its been ordered. And my god Chris, that 4 round rapid after the first adjustment was pure poetry
Thank you. I am an OLD shooter, never a good range shooter, but over 40 years, I lost less than ten deer in New Zealand bush hunting. Seen a lot of American Gun reporters and demonstrations. This here is so refreshing!! Honest and NO BULLSHIT ra ra ra!! By the way, I am very biased towards Ruger rifles. My wee deer gun was a Ruger of course!! in 44 REMMAG. A trajectory like a u-bolt, but 200 gns at 2000fps. and an accurate range all the way out to 90 yards.
I have this rifle. Add a Fat Bastard 5 port muzzle break. Atlas bi-pod, Magpul PRS3 stock, Anarchy firing pin and bolt handle. Top with a GOOD high scope. Feed it Hornady 285 ELD-M or 300 Sierra Match with RL26, H1000, LRT, or VV24N41. Go have fun. Of all my rifles. This is my favorite one. I've already have 2,000 rounds through it.
@@momoniji6439 Before covid was about $2.50 to reload per round. Now it's about $3.50. Large rifle magnum primers are like pixie dust. Hard to come by.
Thank you for your in depth work up on this rifle. I'm in the south eastern US and Just got my hands on this exact rifle. I can't wait to get out there with it once I get my scope rings I ordered. It was nice to see you using a Harris bipod. Some others I talked too said that I need to have an ATLAS bipod, or something in that price range for this rifle due to the caliber lol. I think Im going to grab a harris one like you had there cause I really don't want to spend what an Atlas costs, even if people say they are the best.
RPR's are a great gun. I have a 6.5CM and love it. Some things I've done for PRS competition and/or personal preference. Timney trigger was the first thing out of the box. The Ruger trigger is a good trigger, probably one of the best OEM triggers out there. That said, the Timney is just better, better feel, more adjustable, etc. Replaced the rear stock with a Magpul PRS Gen 3. The RPR OEM stock is adjustable but it is tough to get repeatable and it doesn't hold up well over time. The cheek piece adjustment tends to slip as it ages no matter how hard you tighten down on it. The MagPul PRS Gen 3 is more comfortable, equally adjustable, but more easily and repeatably. The other thing I don't see mentioned much is that the RPR is increadily unbalanced toward the barrel which can make carrying around uncomfortable unless you keep it on a sling. For the 6.5CM at least, the added weight of the MapPul PRS rear stock changes the RPR to a much better balanced/easier to manage rifle, plus no hard/sharp edges. I've also put an Anarchy Outdoors mag release extension on it which is a great improvement but not a must have. I have a Catalyst Arms fore end that has the ARCA rail setup but not installed yet. What I find interesting is the external changes to the new Gen RPRs for 2024/25 come close to duplicating those I've listed here (excluding the trigger). With the custom loads I developed for mine, I get 10 round groups that can be hidden under a quarter at 100 yds, which gives confidence when making the adjustments for extended ranges. I would expect (relatively speaking) similar performance with custom loads from the 338 LM. I want one badly, but there really is no application that I have that isn't already met by my current equipment. Unless I want to compete in King of 1 Mile... ;-) Great video, good work!!!

If your using a 7x35 your probably going to be shooting out further than I am. More built in moa might be better?
Good Review. I have had mind for less than a year. I have put only a few hundred dowm range, due to lack of available distance. I live in the mountains, so its less common to run into a mile+ shot. That being said, I have spent some time at those distance. I think the rear picitiny comment is a little hypercritical. I honestly never noticed it was lacking in ergonomics until you said something. However, like you I prefer a soft rear rest. The other comment I was slightly disagree with is if being a recreational or training long gun. I would agree that it's set up is out of the box ready to go, and does lend itself to a good training rifle. That being said, it also a greag starting point for a competition rifle. Most people will buy a relatively bare bones kit and build their rifle to spec for competition. This rifle gets you started, but is easily adjustable for really any level of shooting. As you said, add a larger bipod and you will increase stability. I would say that is underselling it a bit. This rifle can be tuned quite nicely for competition. I know some who fire off a soft bag at long range with the RPR and they are accurate and consistent. I also believe too many focus on the rifle and its capabilities. I believe its less about the rifle and more about the shooter. A professional shooter could take a far inferior long gun and out shoot a medium level shooter with a $10k rifle. All in all I agree witb your assessment. As an owner of the RPR .338, I am very impressed and even as I progress, i do not intend to go to another setup. I may make some changes to the RPR as needed, but I don't believe a pro could out shoot this rifle. One side bar. I did almosg exactly what u said about ths cheek rest. I removed the rest from the riflez added a thin slice of memory foam, maybe 1-inch in height, and used athletic tape to secure it. Apply some Sharpie marker for camo and it was not only more ergonomic, but increased the comfort factor. Well done, I'll keep watching.
It would be great to get a clear explanation of what you meant by saying that the RPR transfers energy to your head, as opposed to your shoulder. It was a bit vague, and left me wondering exactly what was meant, and what remedy was available?
Some rifle stocks transmit resonance/vibration through your cheek and head causing concussion, it's unpleasant and tiring in the first instance and after a whole day with a bad gun, gives you a serious headache, because it is concussion! I prefer guns that DON'T do this, it is an element of recoil in terms of linear friction but, it's the vibration that's most irritating because few heavy tacticool guns physically kick very hard, big game rifles are somewhat different😂
@@chrisparkin431 Thanks for that follow-up. So, to be clear, I should not expect the nasty vibration from the RPR .338? I'm being a bit repetitious in the questioning because I currently have an RPR in 300 win mag (recoil is relatively light with no troubling cheek-sting/vibration), and I am thinking seriously about 'trading up' to the larger round. Again, thank you!
Hi Chris, I have made a back grip for my 338 Lapua R P R, not sure how to upload a picture of it too you, however it makes for a comfortable shooting position
Dear Chris. I just bought myself a Daystate Huntsman Regal. A lot of advertising has been done on the Hawke Sidewinder 8-32 SR PRO II. In your opinion, how would you feel does the Hawke match up on this rifle compares to the S&B PMII. What i am trying to say for the person who decides to buy this rifle why would they want such an expensive scope if the Hawke on paper is much much cheaper and in my humble opinion just as effective especially guys wanting to get into long range shooting on a budget of $4000 for a rifle and scope combination.
They are both very good scopes at their respective price points but that is a question far to broad in span for a brief answer so perhaps bring it to one of the live videos
Hey Chris, 1954mje here again (TH-cam made me create an account.) Again really informative review! It is my intention to purchase the RPR 338 LM to extend my ethical hunting range out to 500-700 meters. My RPR 6.5 Creed utilizing %100 copper ammo ethical range for me is 425 meters. I would like to try the OSS Supressor on it as it is 338 specific, reduces recoil and noise. I harvest 2-4 game each year after much practice for shot placement at various range. Various other calibers were considered and your statements about harmonics recoil concussive was a crucial factor as practice is essential. Please let me know what you think about the OSS Suppressor idea. Thank you, Mark
Not Mark, but my 2c on the suppressor would be to go with something other than the OSS for a bolt action. OSS cans are designed specifically to have low back-pressure in semi-automatic systems, so they make some compromises that you won't be able to get benefits from in a bolt gun. I would recommend looking at more efficient cans such as the Thunder Beast 338 Ultra or the CGS Hekate for a suppressor on a .338 bolt action
Wow.....now theres a test I'd of loved to be at the range with ..... Ruger seemed to have really hot many elements right with this rifle especially the rear stock ergonomics and lack of pain via your cheek / face / shoulder especially for the price compared to it's precision competition ..... Some shooting by the way 😉!
Nice shooting! Just an observation, I could be wrong (hard to tell) but it appears you have wrapped your finger somewhat around the trigger at the 3:22 mark. Try just resting the pad of the first digit of that finger on the trigger. Any more than that can pull the shot off to the right as in 11:01. If you were doing this, my apologies. Again, great shooting.
Should do alittle more research before mouthing off...go watch some Olympic shooters or some real shooters. I was just pointing out some mistakes. Im currently shooting a .75 inch 10 shot group at 500 yards. 300mwag custom build, 210 Berger vlds, 70grs of 4831, and magnum cci primers.
You may want to check it out before dismissing it out of hand. Very handy device that I have used on my RPR with great success. Not very pricey and easy to install on most stocks.

i experimented with the 4 small plugs on top and to be honest i couldn't tell a difference at all. I think the 4 lager ports just let so much pressure out that those small top ports are null.
About the only thing I haven't liked about this rifle was the adjustment tool they mounted into the back end of the bolt. I highly recommend removing this tool if you wish to use the rifle for any duration of use. Other than that, it's a smooth rifle to use, have had mine out to 1900ish yards so far and no issues to report other than the adjustment tool being on the bolt.
So curious to know what issues you have had with the Allen Wrench being in the bolt shroud? It's just stored in there incase you want to adjust the trigger. I personally have had zero issues with it being in mine.
@@jamesglenn520 I found that if you do a rapid charge with the bolt that the tool gets loose and likes to dislodge inside the bolt/firing pin area. Even after placing it back where it's supposed to be stored, it still gets loose after normal use. I find its just easier to store the trigger tool in my rifle bag instead on the bolt. One less thing I need to worry about getting busted in this rifle.

By design, it doesn't need it. Those other stocks have a greater top-of-pad to bore center offset which is why THEY need the adj buttpad (so it can be raised). Buttpad does have an adjustment for lateral offset to provide a better fit for shooter; either left or right, just fyi.

When it comes to 338 I'd love to have Sako TRG but the 10k price tag is kinda problem. Is this gun good?
Please Sir; Can you show the drop moa of the 338LM 300grain from 100 (zero) to 1000 yards for the Ruger?
There are plenty of free apps for what you want to calculate and you need to enter your rifles specific details, not one i had a year ago
@@chrisparkin431 Please guide me on which app is the best to calculate
Hi Chris, I have made a back grip for my 338 Lapua R P R, not sure how to upload a picture of it too you, however it makes for a comfortable shooting position
I don't keep the guns
Watch some of Ryan Cleckners videos on long range shooting. This guy has hands on experience with shooting and fighting for the 🇺🇸
Hello Chris, I'm looking at getting the .300PRC version of this with the same scope and was wanting to know what rings were on it?
Thanks
Tier-one 34mm High
I have this platform in 308. Definitely upgrading to this beast.
It's ok.We see a few beginners in ELR shoot one but very soon drop it and get a custom
This rifle doesn't start performing until 2000-2500 meters. Red lines around 3500. If you find you aim struggling, just give it more revs.
Target tool makes an adjustable bag rider that works great on this rifle!
I think hammer forged barrels are quicker myself, which this has if I remember. Time to put a variation in I think.
Hi Chris, which did you prefer out of this rifle and the Cyclone Steel Core .338LM?
Probably the Ruger all things considered
Wow.....now theres a test I'd of loved to be at the range with ..... Ruger seemed to have really hot many elements right with this rifle especially the rear stock ergonomics and lack of pain via your cheek / face / shoulder especially for the price compared to it's precision competition .....
Some shooting by the way 😉!
How do you think this rifle will shoot the 200 grain sst? I use that bullet for whitetail.
The rifle is long gone
Wow a 1000M on a 1' target that quick is amazing. That's a man killer..

I have the same rifle with a PMll thanks for the review
Have you blew broken any bullet extractors on the bolt?
No
How is bro from the uk and shooting a bigss gun🥶🥶🥶💀💀❌❌🔥🔥
It's legal here so why not
I really thought you were gonna eat it with that eye relief
Hello, what scope is that ???
How does it compare to a Tikka T3X Tac?
Tikka don't offer a 338 last time I looked, it's perhaps comparable to Sako TRG or M10
I've got both and in build quality the tikka is well ahead. The rpr is great at what it is. A big clunky brute. The tac a1 in 6.5 is silky smooth.
Hey Chris what scope are you using? Or does anyone have any recommendation?
nice! very interesting video
What rear bag is that you used on the bench, its so tiny a cute.
Great shooting
S&B match for play an titanium tipped Underwood for ELR
I have one. What scope is on that rifle?
Schmidt & Bender 5-25 PMII
Shooting round out of the mag with a high recoil rifle is a good way to hammer the rounds changing ur seating depths
Stick with the computer games
Should do alittle more research before mouthing off...go watch some Olympic shooters or some real shooters. I was just pointing out some mistakes. Im currently shooting a .75 inch 10 shot group at 500 yards. 300mwag custom build, 210 Berger vlds, 70grs of 4831, and magnum cci primers.
@@robertlane367 i shall look forward to seeing that video on your channel
You need the adjustable bag rider from long shot precision.
Apparently not necessarily
You may want to check it out before dismissing it out of hand. Very handy device that I have used on my RPR with great success. Not very pricey and easy to install on most stocks.
@@magic4221 this is not my gun, it was a review gun loaned to me for a magazine article two years ago and was delivered as standard to which you can add accessories but I cannot sadly
Wow, missed that detail. Thanks for reply. Shoot on........
What brand/make muzzle brake is that?
Comes with the rifle
have you tried it with the 26 inch barrel?
No, this gun was two years ago and i had 40 rounds
Curious as to what scope rings your using on your RPR?
Tier-one
Notice how before then shot you can’t see your breath and then after you can. I believe this is due to the shear force of the muzzle blast
First one if this size. Good review! I am curious how to tune the muzzle break though.
i experimented with the 4 small plugs on top and to be honest i couldn't tell a difference at all. I think the 4 lager ports just let so much pressure out that those small top ports are null.
@@mark929rr5 thank you that helped. Ill just leave mine be then. 👍
@@TheWolfMatt I guess I have been lucky. Mine has never had any issues so far.
Is this same Gun recently Indian Army has procured?
I have no involvement with Indian Army procurement im afraid😉

Really needs a height-adjustable butt pad (like every other precision rifle out there).
By design, it doesn't need it. Those other stocks have a greater top-of-pad to bore center offset which is why THEY need the adj buttpad (so it can be raised).
Buttpad does have an adjustment for lateral offset to provide a better fit for shooter; either left or right, just fyi.

NEVER BUY FROM RUGER if you care about having a functional fire arms .
they don't sell spare part whit out sending rifle back to factory that mean if the gun you have get banned or registration became mandatory your screw and wont be able to repair your gun . i wool have never buy a ruger if i was aware of that .
just example im looking for spare bolt body and Firing Pin Back for newest gen ruger rpr and unable to find the part that mean once those part i have no way to easily repair it
