I've got 3 Remlins in the 336 and the PPU fouls the ef out of all of them. FTX has been amazing for shooting a bit further... only about 6 to 8 inch drop at 200m. Just loaded the Hornady flat nose 170grs... and got about a 1 inch group at 50 with a red dot. Thanks for keeping the traditional lever gun on the tube!!
Your reviews fall into the category "Do not miss". A while back I was lucky enough to acquire a Winchester 94 in 30 WCF. It has beautiful walnut and is in excellent condition. I checked the birthday from the serial number. It was made in 1948 and I knew I had to have this rifle. You see, I was made in 1948
Thanks! I did not know about the change to the barrel threads and getting rid of the shim. Ruger did improve the loading gate making it easier to load. Plus you can unload out of the loading gate. The ejector is much better made too. I now have 3 Mayodan-made Marlins and they’re all more accurate than my older JM Marlins.
Not many reviews on the new 336 so great video thanks. Having owned many Marlin underlevers over the last 40 years, and still hunt with them, I’ve found accuracy is partially down to how you hold the rifle. They’re not bolt actions! You need to hold the fore-end firmly even when using a sandbag. Currently I’ve got a 336 which I’ve cut down to 17.5” (Trapper’ish style, still wood though) and that rifle shoots sub MOA with Federal 150gr, Hornady 160g FTX and Hornady 140g Monoflex. My own 150g loads shoot 3/4” or better. I’ve found 125g (or thereabouts) bullets just don’t equal the heavier ones for accuracy (maybe I need to do more load development). Then there’s PPU, amazingly good for the price, if you’re still allowed to use lead! Happy hunting!
@@ozziereviews It was your review. I'm still here in NC. I would love to see Queensland but the getting on a plane bit is to much for this old man. Take care and God bless.
🇦🇺😎👍Hey mate I love the 336. Mine is the Remlin model with a 3x9x40 scope. Very accurate, many kills no problems 👍. I’ve heard the Ruger ones are better and I’m sure they are. . Great review mate. Watch out for the Roos on the road
Ive got a 2018 remington made 1894 .357. The shop sold it for less than a grand as it had a few issues. The checkering was badly done, the forestock is thicker on one side than the other and the front sight blade was bent over. I replaced the front sight blade with a new one and its been fine. Mechanically ive never had an issue, apparently they managed to get that part right by 2018.
Awesome review once again Ozzie, keep up the good work ! Would you compare to a Rossi R95 same barrel length, twist rate etc for about $1000 cheaper? Or is it really a case of get what you pay for?
I own a Marlington Big Loop 30-30, compared to my Marlin 44m made in the 70's they are 2 planets apart. But the Marlington is not bad after putting a trigger in it and polishing the internals, and does really well with reloaded Leverevolution ammo. But I hate a conventional scope on any lever gun, mine use scout scopes, faster to get onto target and just looks way better.
Hey mate. Would you consider doing a how to clean one of these rifles? I'd imagine running the rod down the barrel would end in a whole lot of crud going into the action. Cheers.
I drop a bore snake in through the ejection port and pull through the barrel to clean or you can remove lever screw and pull out lever and bolt and give it a good clean that way. Ranger Point Precision makes a lever quick takedown screw exactly for that purpose. 👍🏼
got an old marlin 30-30 from the early 80s. bought it new. shot probably 30 deer with it and have never cleaned it. once i was going to swap it for a sks i sported out but the sk weighed a lot more and was nowhere near as accurate. i sold/ditched the sk.
Used to own the marlin made 30,30 and when loading through the side gate it would bite. Sold it for $300 more than what I paid for it. I now use 357 mag version. Cheaper to run.
I’ve never really found lever actions to be that accurate. I spoke to a guy who has one that has been acceded and he mentioned that a article was written 3040 years ago about it. That the tubular mag will put different tension based upon the number of rounds, that’s in it thereby putting torque on the barrel. if you’re shooting for groups not to put one in the chamber. I personally have seen the zero shift. Depends on how far out you rest it on the forearm. so the closer to the receiver zero changes . Lever guns are cool but expensive and inherently not that accurate . They can be made accurate, but there are just some issues such as a non-free floated barrel in a crappy trigger.
Great review Ozzie 👍 I’ve been trying to find one of these in Oz. What do they roughly retail for now and where did you buy yours from. Thanks for sharing! 🙏
... levergun actions "self-polish" with use ... any NIB levergun action unless it's a BLR or Turnbull custom gun will be stiff ... owned several Win 92, 94, 71, 1886 and Marlin 336, 1894, 1895 leverguns over the years and that has always been the case
I've got a deposit on this exact same model, been waiting nearly a year for it... Be careful though peoples cause some gun shops are trying to pass off the Remington made ones as the Ruger made ones which is a dog act.
How anyone would be surprised would shock me as I’ve been saying it for how many years now? They want ALL guns gone so before they announce you’ve got to hand in your bolt actions in the future, we can all unite as one now and push back before it’s too late!

Lever actions don't need scopes, it just ain't right! Using a Lever like a bolt gun isn't that relevant, somewhere in the middle of a paper plate at 100mtrs is accurate enough for what you normally do with a Lever!
My pig rifle of choice was a Marlin 336A bought back in 1977, quality was a bit poor, the one you showed looked much nicer but 2000$ is way too much for what it is..

Lever actions are great 😊👍

Hi from the uk great vid just a question would a bore snake be enough to clean the barrel thanks
In the field sure but I’d still clean it normally with a cleaning rod and patch 👍
150 gr Winchesters go well for Marlin
have you reviewed any of the stirlings before, i am looking to buy one but there isn't many reviews on them.

Hey mate. Would you consider doing a how to clean one of these rifles? I'd imagine running the rod down the barrel would end in a whole lot of crud going into the action. Cheers.
Start with foam bore cleaner, patch out from the muzzle (yes no other way so just be careful) and finish with g96 or clp 👍
