DIY Honda Odyssey fogged up backup car camera lens repair CHEAP part 1

If your car's rearview camera got fogged up lens. This is a very cheap way to restore it.
Apply tape, warm up tape to give it a nice curve. Apply glue to seal. Several weeks, several car washes, hot summer - so far the tape holds up. As of Jan 5 2015

I chucked my lens into a 1/2" drill and put 3M Headlight Renewal Polish on a wet microfiber for about 5 minutes on high speed and got great results. I found best focus with about 2 turns out from all the way in gave me my best picture.

I just use alcool to clean it but I’m fed up. Why all manufacturers didn’t make a retractable lens.

Good idea.. Maybe this can work ok in the northern states, but 3 weeks in the strong South FL summer sun and that thin piece of scotch tape will get scorched and brittle.

Why not just clean it on the car with your qtip? Try that first, and see if that works. Note, it did not on my 2018 oddy. Why then bother to dismantle it. My take away from this is to clean it with windex.

If the lense is clear after cleanup, consider coating it with Chemical Guys Jet Seal. After 20 minutes it chemically bonds and you just wipe it off. Apply annually.

I call foul....the tape is not scratch resistant at all, for a lens, scratches are the death nail.. this will get contact... and scratch instantly.. again and again...
