I just bought a 98 tourer that has been sitting for two years. You have no idea how much this video has helped. Now I am positive I can save a lot of money at the bike shop by doing it myself. Love how detailed you were.

Paul Konitz here and that was one of the BEST instruction videos I have ever seen. Great photography, sweet and to the point and very comprehensive. I have a 1998 Valkryie that a guy screwed up my carburetor rebuild after (3) tries and now I find the local Honda dealers will not work on older bikes, so we are going to do it ourselves and your video was a great inspiration for this project. I just stumbled onto you this morning and I'm so appreciative for your
dedication to the art of mechanics, U-D-Man !!! Thanks again

I'm doing the same rehab work on both of my Valkyrie this week. After watching your video's (pts 7,8, and 9) and the step by step work is saving my Valks from possible sale. Huge help knowing what each of the internal carb parts does before getting into the work. Thanks for sharing the knowledge.

Thanks for doing what you do. I picked up the same bike and it had been sitting for over a year. I just got the carbs back together today. I have to buy a float blow gasket, float valve and a low speed jet before I can re-install, but you made the job doable for me. Thanks again.

Your the man. I've. Had my 1999 Valkyrie set up for over a year. I was actually scared to tackle this job and I didn't have the money to pay somebody to do it for me. I got it all disassembled in less than two hours. Going to start to clean all the part and replace. Thanks for the video. Now I can finally the that beast back on the road. I'm a big guy at 6'2" 270 lbs and my my days I look small on my Yamaha warrior.

    Mr. Smith
After putting some crappy gas in my bike from a station up in Dumb-fart NC mountains. My bike started running bad. Then started draining gas all over the floor after only a week of sitting still when I went to go on the next ride. Turns out it had some water in the fuel and some nasty white powder in the fuel bowls. Maybe Sugar???? It did not look like the usual ethanal crap. I usually only use quality name brand gas but I was running very low and had to do it. It had crumbed up the needles and floats in at least 3 of my carbs. My buddies on the Harleys also had similar problems but they only have one carb to clean LOL.
I took on this rebuild project after watching all of you videos and I must say that it was a task for sure but it was a doable project. The biggest problem I had was the idle mixture screw tip broke off inside the hole on #5 and #6 carbs. I had to carefully drill out the tip using a .030" drill bit and then replace the screws with new ones in all of the carbs. This was tricky at best. I do appreciate your SUPER QUALITY videos and great explanations of how to do the job. I also made me a little tool like yours to remove the o rings and washers from the Idle mixture holes. Keep up the good work. BTW my bike is a 98 Standard with all the chrome goodies. I have had it for 10+ years and it is de-smoged and re-jetted it will gap both of my HP Harleys with ease.

I wish I could drop off my Valkyrie trike off at your shop! It's always had one float sticking, leaks when you start it up beginning of the season, then stops after you get the gas flowing. Always have to keep the choke on slightly to keep it idling too. But its a been sitting awhile and now it's worse then ever. No mechanics in my area will work on it since it's a 2000. "Oh that's too old sorry" lol. Things only got 9,000 miles on it.. smh Really liked your videos on this, very clear and concise, great job! Thank you

One of the best videos I have seen. Very helpful. Just rebuilt carbs on 99 Valk after 2 years so not as bad. Did not remove the air screws as did not know how to get them out and back. Runs great anyway but pretty sure need to balance carbs. I have a 4 barrel Carbtune kit so will try to get them as close as possible. Also the tip about leaving off the intake manifolds until the air box is installed has got to be the best idea of the lot. I had a time reinstalling the box. Thanks. Plan to see more of your stuff.

I just followed your videos and I want to say thank you so much. I am in Ireland and I have my F6C ( Euro spec Valk ) since new from 1999. The Eu spec has smaller jets for emissions and no de smog kit. I put in 38 and 105 size jets as that what is recommended for the Cobra 6 into 6 exhaust. First it was backfiring and firing on 4 but I swapped two plug leads which I had in wrong and all seems great now. Just have to check tappets and balance and go for a spin but it already seems much better....

This is an excellent video series. I have one STRONG SUGGESTION. Before reinstalling the carbs, connect a fuel supply and make sure there are no leaks. Then, once the carbs are installed, before installing the air filter and gas tank, connect the fuel supply and start the motorcycle, to insure everything is working properly.
I agree that, when the carbs are removed, is an excellent time to do a desmog.

D-Ray, you made restoring a 1997 Valkyrie Tourer a pleasant job for this 62 year old man. I have not rode a motorcycle since 1983. My brother just gave me the Valkyrie that has been parked for nearly five years. So I took advantage of your entire series of videos. If you have time would you recommend fluids of your choice from experience for the Valkyrie? I thought about going fully synthetic on motor, drive train. and sticking to the standard antifreeze plus regular DOT4 brake fluid for flush. Then I worried that the clutch may not be able to handle the synthetic motor oil? Thanks so much for your fantastic videos.

I was thinking about buying a 1997 Honda Valkyrie 1500 Tourer - Only 9000 Miles and was wondering what maintenance you suggestion I do to it based on the age and low miles. Here is what the owner said about the bike. Great bike, engine is smooth, starts right up easy, lots of power. Tires, brakes, battery, oil all good to go, needs nothing.

I completed your carb clean procedure on 1998 Valkyrie all went well with nothing left over. #1 carb bowl was green others were just varnish from setting several years. Only problem is it will not start it attempts to run for about 2 seconds then quits and will not restart. Have new charged battery, checked tank valve gas flows full hose, removed bowl drain screw have gas in the bowls, new spark plugs with spark, kill switch checked, any suggestions? May have to bring it to you.

If you have a 1998 Valkyrie that needs the carbs redone, it has been totally neglected. I have a 1997 1HFSC3403VA001582 that has never been torn down. It has never sat more than three months. Runs like the day I got it in 1996 (Honda always sold their next year bikes in the current year). Sure, I have run carb cleaner through it a few times, changed plugs, lots of oil, batteries and tires but, that is to be expected. 28 years and 116,000 miles. I have had other bikes and cars at the same time.

Hi ,Just watched your video and it was nothing short of fantastic ...! I just picked up a 98 Valkyrie and love it but it has a few , what I would consider minor. The bike runs good at all RPM levels but it has a little problem with cold starts . When I put the choke on it does not affect the idle speed ... My sense is the we need to adjust the choke cable to make sure it is properly set ... Your thoughts? Thanks you much for the guidance

    • @Denvalk
      @Denvalk 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

As a Valk owner for 12 years I've seen this issue more times than I can count. In every instance it's because you are not pushing the choke far enough down. Many riders, as soon as they feel resistance, stop pressing the choke switch down. Actually, in most instances, this is just when the cable slack is drawn tight but the choke is just beginning to engage. Look at the slider on the top outside of the carbs and notice the cable beginning to pull the slider. You will probably notice the slider has considerably more room to move as you will see by the long slots in the side of the slider that keep it steady as it is engaged and released. Just keep pushing down on the choke until it stops moving and your choke(s) will be engaged. Even after not starting for 3 months, my Valk will start almost instantly. Another way you can determine if you're pushing the choke down far enough to see if it's engaged is after you have it started, move your choke down until the engine begins to rev. Then you know you've engaged the choke. Hope this helps.

After taking it to Honda several times and them not fixing the problem, I determined which cylinder was the problem by pulling each spark plug until I found one that didn't affect the idle. I knew it was the suspect cylinder. I pulled the top off the carb and found two issues. One, the diaphragm had a split in it. Also, the spring inside the diaphragm had broken. Replaced all the springs and the diaphragm over 15,000 miles ago and not a problem since. Hope this helps.

Very nice videos....but VERY disappointing that you did not show the struggle putting the air box back in and connecting the rubber intakes back on the carbs. I'm getting ready to buy a 1998 with 19k miles on it in damn near showroom condition. Two tone, Yellow and White. Been sitting for 2 years...fires right up after getting either into the air box. But will not run or idle on it's own. Carbs do seem to have fuel in them...(not vacuum/flow to petcock seems to be working as carbs have gas in them...when drained. Tks again.
