Just took my first shakedown ride after rebuilding my Valkyrie IS carbs. WHAT A ROCKET IT TURNED OUT TO BE!! No joke! Your help and following your carb synch instructions helped so much! It worked perfectly! And this engine purrs! All I had to do was reset the idle speed and the smoothness of the throttle from off idle to 80mph is incredible!! 9 yrs later and your videos are still helping people!! THANK YOU!!!!!!

Man thank you so much, I just bought a my first ('97) valkyrie from the 1st owner who drove it for 90.000 km (55.000 miles ish). It has been standing for a while as the guy cant hold his balance anymore. These video's are great, now i can clean and renew the whole fuel system myself! 😁 huge help for a broke ass 24 year old 😅

Really nice sequence of videos!. Many years I do not see the technic for pre-synchronize the carbs, this works great and saves a lot of time .. just following the master carb! Thank you very much!

To adjust the mixture screws you will need a special screwdriver, I use a Motion Pro #08-0119. This tool will only work if you have sawed a slot in the mixture screws as I did in the video. Otherwise you will need the correct special tool to adjust the "D" shaped screw heads. Adjustment is pretty simple, warm the bike up, and one carb at a time, turn the screw in untill you hear the idle speed drop a little, then back it out untill it pickes back up, then move on to the next carb.

D-Ray, Thanks to you I have rebuilt the carburetors of a 1999 Honda Valkyrie.
What I am still not sure of is where all the hoses go.
Can wait to hear it run after 9 years of inactivity.
    Thanks again,
    Frank
PS. You gave me the confidence to take on the project.

Thanks D-Ray for the videos. Now I'm not scared to try it myself. Got a 97 with 100.000 km on the clock It runs perfect so far, and I'm a "don't fix it if it ain't broken" kind of guy, so it might take a while before i dive in the carbs :-)

My Valkyrie sat for about 8 years. I was on the 3rd Carb disassembly when it came to that low speed mixture screw. I bought the little "D" tool for removing these so I wouldn't have to take a hack saw to the carbs. Anyway, the first 2 carbs had the screw about 1 1/2 turns out. For reasons I can't figure the 3rd one was 2 1/2 turns. Anyway when I removed it the tiny little point had broken off down in a very small recess. I tried everything under the sun to get it out. Carb cleaner, high pressure air, put a etching tool that vibrates against the body it was stuck while unside down, no chance. I had to buy another set from ebay. Honda sells everything for these carbs but a complete carb or just the body. I was out of luck.

Awsome video D-Ray, it helped me get through my 98 Valkyrie carb rebuild. The only problem I have now, is I mixed up the pilot screws location when I took them out. Although its running better I still have to keep choke on slightly and I have a miss. Manual say base settings is 2 turns, but they were all different when I took them out. So how do I adj the pilots on the bike, what tool works best or sync carbs with vacuum gauge? Lastly how do you check the adjustment on a multiple carb engine like the Valkyrie, all I see is 1, 2 and 4 carb videos. Thanks in advance

D-Ray, I have a 1998 Honda Valkyrie and had the carbs rebuilt at a Honda MC Dealership. NOT Cheap!! Even though I like doing my own work as a DIYer but when I learned about having to sync the carbs I figured this should be left up to the pro’s. Ridding the bike a minimum of once a week of 40 miles and after 3 to 4 months one of the fuel “Tees” started leaking and the Honda Dealer stated it’s the same cost to repair that as it was to rebuild. So I ordered the plastic “Tees” to replace them myself. So I am assuming the carbs have to come completely off / out just to replace these “Tees”.
    Thanks in advance.

Hi Ray, Great video's for the Valkyrie rider, I have a 01 valkyrie Interstate not a lot of miles on it 30k. When I start the Bike, it sounds like not all the carbs have come on line take a min, after it warms up, it Idles out and responds to throttle and cranks great the rest of the day I'm not the first owner. Should I rebuild carbs?

Your video was very informative, well done, easy to follow. Thank you it was done so well that I have been able to do mine. Personally I would like to kick Mr Honda in his butt, there's no way in the world you couldn't have designed that air cleaner a quarter inch smaller all the way around. Same with the stator, for the sake of cutting it one bar and half it'd be simple. I worked on Harleys for 30 years, working on these Hondas is a pain in the butt. But I do like my Valkyrie. Thank you Bubba

My uncle has a 98 Sportster 1200 and when he starts it up it blows just a little black smoke. Well when your goin through town at lower rpms it will cut out every once and awhile. Once your at highway speed it does fine, I was thinking it was running rich, but have no idea on working on carbs, any ideas on what it may be and a fix?

  • @antonyhoch
    @antonyhoch 5 ปีที่แล้ว

I had issues at the 2:15 point. I had new float bowl seals and they wouldn't hold in place in the groove. So I didn't have the luxury of having the carbs upside down on the bench when installing, To make maters worse, it's like they had actually shrunk by about 2mm. As a result I pinched 2 of the new seals when installing, so as soon as I turned the gas on, they started leaking. I should have just left the old seals in place. I might look at making up some cork gaskets. BTW, it's a 99 Valkyrie Interstate that I bought from SRK Cycles in Pennsylvania and shipped it out to New Zealand.

I know it has been too long, but could you give me a tip!
    Have a 1999 Valkyrie, only 22k miles!
I take for a ride and some times it dies, like running out of gas, even though the tank is full.... won’t start for about 1/2 hour...
After that will run again...until next time it stops again.... randomly....
    Any advice?
    Thanks
