I can 💯 confirm this is one of the worst companies to work for. Been at this for ten years and I'm not a fan of any large carrier. I worked for Western Express in 2015 and it was a super brief. This company stills owes me money and I was at one point contacted about a class action lawsuit regarding this issue. So obviously this company has been pulling bs for a while. I had so many issues in a month in and half while i was there it was unreal.😂 I can't comment on Nashville I worked out of Bethlehem PA and ran New England. If you want know more I'm more then happy to share.
More laws they can skirt around ?? How about more drivers just start doing their part to enforce the laws on the books ?? We have rights it's time we use em before we lose em.
Western Express is a last resort company. Job requirement is an ankle bracelet. They don't care at all about their drivers. They look at them as criminals. Maintenance issues are not repaired. They'll put a bandaid on the issue and strong arm the driver to keep it moving or quit. I'm an instructor at a CDL training facility and I tell my students to stay away from them.
Western express have always been that way. Back in 2002 when I worked for them, I was out 3 weeks put my notice in for home time. They had 3 loads going directly to the city I live in. They put me on a Georgia load, the shipper need one of the loads that was going to my city gone. So I called dispatch to tell them that there is 3 loads siting here going to my hometown . I was told you are going to do as you are told and dispatch hung up on me. I was in Maryland so I picked the Georgia load up and took their equipment back to Nashville then quit. They are awful
I almost made that mistake and I went through their orientation. A kid got shot and killed across from the chicken coup of a hotel they put you up in, were really trying to push the Lease out to own their trucks program, charge you through orientation and get all your banking info. Thank god I walked away. I had an angel looking over me getting me away from them.
I heard about that when I picked up my new truck a month ago down there in Nashville. You'd think a company like this they'd take care of their drivers and put us up in better accommodations. Especially when you're new.
Im glad I am the sole driver for a small New England business. I pick up their materials every week. I get paid $1,000 per week take home regardless of how much or how little I do. Zero pressure. I already did two 34 hours breaks this week.
I quit my trucking job because my trainer was a complete bozo. Dude does ne pre-trip the beginning of the week. Didn't know how to use the installed GPS, wouldn't let me turn off the bright GREEN display light on the CB at night. When I did it on my own without asking he was shocked at how much better he could see. He wanted me to backup on the street. He insisted that I use Google maps on my phone for navigation. It goes on and on. Everything they told us NOT to do in the company driving school this guy was telling me to do. After a week of dealing with this guy I told them to get me another trainer and the best they could do was a guy 500 miles away. I just paid them the 4k for their school and went elsewhere. This guy had no business being a trainer. And get this. He was using Trucker Path for navigation but then sending the route to Google and using Google maps. I asked him if he has a subscription with Trucker Path and he said no. I then told him that unless you have a subscription it gives you car routes and not truck routes. His response was "I know". I ended up doing my trip planning using my map and had the details written out on paper. As I'm taking my exit with a load 78k lbs, he starts screaming that I'm on the wrong exit and yelling for me to get back on the highway I was exiting. I was already committed but swerved back onto the interstate I was on. Then he looks at his Google maps again and says "Oh, that was the right exit" I was PISSED! If your company gives you a bad trainer walking away because anything that happens is on you because you're the one driving.
Western express is by far one of the worst companies out there. A few years ago their Nashville terminal was shot up due to a fleet manager playing games with a driver.
I once had a funky that I reported a flat steer tire he said ease it in bay 3 and I'll have someone plug it because it is a new tire. I said what? He told me that it was going to be plugged. I went straight to the safety guy and reported what was said he about fell backwards in his chair and said WHAT? I said I'm not joking and if that tire is plugged you can bet your ass it won't be me driving it because I'll quit first he told me don't worry it will not be plugged and Mr Josh is in for a butt chewing you do not plug a steer tire for no reason
I had a company to try to get me to drive on a bad tire in South Carolina with heavy DOT presence. Then the truck went into Derate because they disabled the def and wanted me to go 10 miles on I40 to get the trailer brakes fixed because they were too cheap to get them fixed where the truck was towed. They fired me. We won't even talk about how the drive shaft fell out of the truck and instead of them replacing it, they put it back in with the same old screws. Instead of regulating us drivers, they need to regulate these carriers.
Oh, please, for the love of the universe, share this company name. They fired you, you owe them nothing. Don't protect them. Protect other drivers Humble and grateful you shared❤
If company pressures you to drive illegally and unsafe. You can report them. That's why communicating with text protects you. If they fire you or try to punish you for refusing, they can be heavily fined. And I think you can sue.
I have been with Western Express for three-and-a-half years. I can't speak for his experience it sounds like some of it is exaggeration and other parts that are somewhat true. As far as repairs go whenever my tractor or trailer has any issue I put in a breakdown request and I will go to Love's or they will send someone out to me depending on the situation. The problem at Western Express as we have a lot of bad employees currently here and a lot of bad drivers that come here. It's been a great resource for those drivers that needed a fresh start or second chance and once they get their experience they can move on. Just like with so many other trucking companies, sadly, they just keep bringing in large numbers of people that should never be behind the wheel of a semi
U must b a lucky ladi. Everything he saying is true. Am lease purchase 3 months have never made not $1. Dollar yet. Negative every week 😢😢I have proof.
Shame on them for putting the public in danger like that with bad dangerous equipment, i feel bad for the driver being treated badly, hopefully he will find something better.
I wanna get a white T shirt with a parody version of their logo that says Welfare Express ...I wanna wear it when I go to the terminal on Monday morning for all the DM's to see. 🤣🤣
i went there for orientation and they put me in a hotel with someone i didn't know. the hotel was in crime area. the first day of orientation they made do a physical and when we went in the room to take it they locked the after every one came in to do a physical. this is the first time I felt like a prisoner Dearing orientation. I will never go back. this company is the very last resort if you are very desperate for a job.
Wow. I applied to this company. Had a dude a church ask me if it was a good company. Thought about it, realized I didn’t do any research. Found out, they are absolute trash. I’m in Iowa now in orientation on my last week with TMC in my hotel watching this and man, did I dodge a bullet. Funnily enough, I picked up a chick on my way up from OK in the rental they got us and she came from western express about a month ago. SAME EXACT STORY. crazy. Somebody needs to do something. Flat bed is no joke. Easily can get you or someone else killed in this industry without the proper training.
See i wanted to either go to tmc or maverick but i think they don’t want speeding tickets i was at Melton for 6 months then i left them and i went to western express I’m giving them a couple months then i might switch to dryvan for a bit and do that all i hear is bad reviews from them and I’m not willing to put my cdl or use this equipment anymore if it’s not good anymore
@@Puca_Patchworks they’ve treated me very good , we tarp a lot , so be prepared , and it’s really not “coast to coast” the furthest I’ve been west is Minnesota.
Back in the late 90’s my Trainer taught me how to cheat my logbook and I got to back up one time. He was a sad excuse and basically used trainees for their hours.
Wow I've seen so many people complain about Western Express I have no clue how the hell they're still in business it's a damn shame if my stuff would have come up missing me and the trainer would have been going at it laptop disappears then the wallet then it magically reappears we would have been scrapping that's crazy
It's all bullshit. How do you have 4 flat tires? That's unbelievable. This guy is full of himself don't believe what you hear because some TH-camr wants views. OCD about your wallet but it's stollen? Found on the floor but 30 seconds later it was found in the bed? Really? $400 a week? Driver didn't do his job. Western is getting people killed? No the driver is. Every mega carrier hires fresh out of school drivers so I don't understand this video. This guy is at western with all his experience? I find that false as well. He either has zero experience or tore up some other companies equipment. Don't believe what you see on the internet. Western Express is a great company. It depends on the individual. If you can handle the stress of being a operator you can succeed at any company. This guy obviously is a pussy mad at the world trashing Western because they fired his punk ass.
This is an age old scenario in trucking that seems to be deep routed in the D.N.A. Of trucking culture if the drivers would toughen up & show some Moxy & Grit and eliminate these issues
Sometimes you just need to pay a tow truck to haul your butt to the scales. If you're driving then the points go on you. You take all the blame. Hire a tow truck and do it legally. Contact a lawyer and document everything.
This driver sounds just like a rookie & no idea how to handle the situation. Western Express should have a safety department. To deal with rouge dispatcher(s) all you have to do is call the Safety Dept. & make sure you RECORD the entire conversation. Keyword.. RECORD the safety department. Next if the situation isn't resolved you roll across the next scale & park it walk inside & provide the DOT your fleet messages, recording & ask them for a level 3 inspection. Provide them your recording, fleet messages & make sure you write down names & titles of who you spoke with at the company about the mechanical issues with audio recording names dates times everything and provide all that to the DOT at the scale. They'll handle it. You might get put out of service but the blame will fall directly on the company. & the company the first person they are going to look at is --> The dispatcher & your fleet manager (their boss). It's called... Hardball.
Can confirm, Once called breakdown at Western Express, I was informed I don't need turn signals. Anything more than replacing lights or basic repairs (hoses, airlines, belts) they will absolutely not pay any outside vendors. They will "route you through the nearest terminal", eventually. You know what happens when you try to route hundreds of trucks for repairs through terminals that can barely fit five or six trucks? Their Breakdown pay is great, as long as you have no bills, no responsibilities, or any desire to eat more than once a day.
Out in CA my driver side spring broke on tractor. Called dispatch they said "take it easy and keep a eye on it, bring it on back to Indiana. Cab was leaning badly, could not believe DOT, or weigh stations didn't pull me in.
I was at Welfare Express for 30 days. If the hotel is bad then you should run away quickly. I got a really bad feeling when I saw the hotel. My experience wasn’t as bad as his but I left 30 days later. Be aware….
This is totally true when get home I'm going to report them to the department of labor and gonna try to talk to the Ohio attorney general office. This company lies like a dog..
Working for western express was the worst decision I had ever made in my life, all staffs most especially the dm's had the worst attitudes on top of that soo much money was stolen from my paycheck, these people have already gone through so many lawsuits because of the very fact that they stole money from almost everyone's paychecks and wanted to get away with it, I left that peace of crap company after only working there for 2 months, now they are charging me $2,500 over that stupid bonus contract they had me sign and it's in credit collection because I can't afford to pay for that right now, not after all the money they stole from me I can't believe they are able to get away with these things 😡
I had a bad experience when I was driving for Western Express Inc. I drove for them for 9 months and I quit and that's the best thing that I have ever done
GoLden rule number one, whatever company you want to work for, before you even call them, pay attention to their equipment, crap equipment you NEVER EVEN CONSIDER THEM. that will weed out 90% of future problems, welfare express has some of the WORST equipment, I don’t think I’ve ever seen one decent looking trailer, let alone truck
they have brand new 2023 and 2024 great Dane flatbed freedom LT trailers. I have been running with a brand new 2024 trailer for like 3 weeks now, not 1 single problem. longest I have ever been out of the shop. They are getting rid of all the older trailer. at least on the flatbed side. no idea about van.
I once told a DOT officer that I had someone edit my log book in Poland. He couldn’t believe neither was he concern either. If you work with Chicagoland trucking companies that is what they will do you always have 34 reset while the wheels are rolling.
You let them. No matter what, you are in control. You're the one getting the ticket for not having a safe truck. Lucky the scale didn't pull you in for an inspection.
I worked at Western Express in March 2021 parked at Walmart truck got towed away. I call them non stop but because it was the weekend they waited into Tuesday to pay and get the truck back. I drove the truck back to their yard and quit, later they send me the bill for the towed truck $2500. I called them and nobody gave me an answer so now is on my credit
Worked here too… gave me a load in northern cal.. water load… 48,779 lbs, with a flat tire, told me to drive it like I stole it, you don’t have any scales to cross..caught a mechanic buying 3 tall cans on lunch break when they had terminal in Fontana… his daily routine.. started calling them welfare express when I needed to go on food stamps to feed my family. VP saw a guy dumpster diving, collecting cans and bottles… said why did security let this guy in here? Someone let him know that the dumpster diver was a western driver…. Shameful!!!!
There's several different reasons why I quit Western Express Inc. First off my dispatcher didn't let me come home for my doctor's appointments my dispatcher purposely made me miss my doctor's appointments, they screwed me over on 4 on my loads they only paid me $300.00 for the 4 loads, I dropped off my last load in New Jersey & went to Bethlehem Pennsylvania I called my dispatcher and told him that I quit and turned in my truck got a bus ticket home.
Simply saying no goes a long way. No one can force you to do anything. Tell me I have to drive a trailer like that and I'll be bobtailing to the closest terminal to turn in that truck.
I helped a driver who ran out of fuel after getting him set to go I left a few mnts layer I went to call my wife and couldn't find my phone I went back after ckng my seats he was still there I asked him if he seen my phone he said he didn't he let me use his phone to call mine it went to voice-mail I told him I wasn't going to worry about it that it had a tracker on it b 30 minutes later when I got home the driver called my wife and said he found my phone she drove to the truck stop where he was and got my phone from him he told her that I bought his fuel and gave him my phone. It t wasn't true I found out later he was living out of his truck in our town pulling scams on other people.
glad i have never worked for western express, and never will because of these horror stories. and i honestly really think that someone NEEDS investigate this company and shut them down.
First job was there and they gave me a dog shit infested truck batteries where dead several dot violations and charged me $2500 to get out of driving for them! I have videos and pictures of the truck and the damages on the truck
I am glad I had a great trainer and chose another big carrier. The carrier I am with makes sure all the trucks and trailers are maintained. They pay is goid and I am content.
@@ProjectHyena That's why you "threaten" the company with that action. If they don't fix it, then take it to the scale house or quit. The big problem with quitting is the company will say you abandoned the truck.
I guess I was lucky. I drove motorcoach with a company who actually cared about their drivers and passengers (I've heard plenty of horror stories about motor coach carriers). We always had new coaches (no older than 5 years old), engine swaps at 500,000 miles, 2x a year tip to tail inspections (not the fake ones that you hear about), and always ran brand new tires (no recaps).
The funny thing is everything he says is the truth he is not making this stuff up from top of his head 😅 western express is the new swift just at a lower capacity swift has been getting better over the years I haven’t heard much about them being in wrecks recently 😂 mark my words western express will be out of business by 2025
They can only tell you to Drive on flat tires they can't make you do it if they ever ask you to do that just say no it's my license and i get the Dig on it not you and if they proceed to try and make you just let them know it's your last run and you will be seeking employment elsewhere after you get the truck back but refuse to Drive on flat tires because it is a DOT safety violation and make sure you record the conversation so you can Bring to up to DOT and they can take care of the company you have to look out for yourself because they will not they are only looking out for them selfs
You may volunteer yourself to some CSA points if you do. If a company refuses to fix equipment it's time to leave. The things these mega carriers get away with is jaw dropping.
@@terrancesneed3757 you can’t get points if you have evidence to show on your ELD that report the issues to your employer and volunteering is a way of reporting the company so they a violation to fix the issue.
@@terrancesneed3757 hopefully the guy that pulls you into the scale house understands...while we know we ain't supposed to move it we aren't tryna waste time arguing with a DM or breakdown. We are tryna get rolling cuz we need to pay bills and put food on the table....it's bad enough it takes 3 years to get a load and another 2 to argue to get something fixed...on top of a whole ass other for them to answer the phone. Lots of time wasted here.
Bruh western was my first job as a driver and it was my worst working experience . the hotel was shiity , orientation short ( they just make sign employment paperwork),the pay so little ( they have a low rate , the worst part is that they don't give you long trips u gotta drive 200 miles to pick up a 300 miles load ), the only gud thing I can say about the company is that they gave me a new truck even then no microwave no fridge. At one point of time I was spending more than I was making. My trainer never told me how to back up , on my first load it took me more than 30 MN to back in . Everything he said and more happened with that company just glad I left
Western Express, I've interacted with these guys several times. At one shipper, they'd let 3 trucks in at a time. Western would go on and take 4 hours up secure the load, a 54k lb aluminum ingot, causing the other 20 trucks to wait forever. I can go in, load and chain, and be out the gate in 30 minutes. Crap company with crap drivers.
I applied for them over a month ago because I got let go from US Xpress and as I had another options and interviews , they called me everyday and only stopped a week ago😮. Glad I didn't take them.
All I ever hear about Western Express is bad, bad, BAD! WHY has this company not been reported to the FMCSA and why are they still in business?? That's what I'd like to know. Also, knowing that they run on faulty equipment that the company refuses to fix, makes me scared to be anywhere near a Western Express truck and trailer when I'm on the road, driving my truck and I come up on one!!
I worked for them for 3 days they wanted me to run 2 huge coils with not enough securement I just got hired and made sure I had all the equipment I needed to run...wasn't expecting 2 coils....I told shipper take the load off my trailer and I dead headed back to their HQ and left
Don’t work for mega carriers small carriers will pay you more and will treat you better y don’t understand why people work for big carriers small companies are the way to go they will give you more miles and money
I’m not sure what everyone went thru at western but I was team driving for 1 year and 3 month’s I just went to another company in march…. Hey I’ve never saw a check under 1800$ before taxes me and my teammate.. it’s had a lil bs but wat company doesn’t we never complain about anything we never had bad equipment we always had a brand new truck… we loved it until the fedex loop’s stopped for a reset😂😂😂 these companies are in the billions a year making company when you bringing that type of money in for America the government doesn’t give af what company driver say about a company…. Sooo be safe stay positive and GET YOUR OWN EQUIPMENT HAVE A BLESSED DAY EVERYONE… western express is the reason I was able to buy a new 2023 Peter my 1st truck and I’m running wild bby
They never paid me I was smart enough to quit in the in the orientation part before they sent me with a trainer they said they had inverters. They told me I could have a couple of days off as well. They also said I’d be making 60 since starting in a couple of months it increased to 64 then when I got there they only offer me 48 sons and it would be about a year before I would see that $.64. I’m also experienced driver about six months at the time and they try to get me to sign a contract with them for a year and then if I decide to leave out of them $2500 so after all that shit I said fuck this company I left but then they got me stranded in Nashville Tennessee and luckily, I had the money to fly myself home If not, I would’ve been screwed and that’s why I think they plan on doing it because they on the hotel that they put you in is that when you run out of money and you’re stranded there in Asheville, they force you to almost work for the company because you have no other options . It’s pretty sick.
I would of been tickled pink. Back in the 90's when I did my training I got a whopping 9 cent a mile for training. Avg. pay $228.00 a week. Try living on the road for that. Thanks US Xpress 👍
I drove for Western Express Inc. For 8 months & I also had a bad experience when I was driving for Western Express Inc. My DM never let me come home for my doctor's appointments so I came home for Thanksgiving cleaned out my truck and I & I went & went dropped off my last load & went to their nearest terminal and turned in my truck & called my DM & told him that I quit & got a bus ticket home from Allentown Pennsylvania to Lima Ohio & yes their motel in Nashville Tennessee is a crapy motel & the food sucks
I work for western. YOU HAVE TO TALK LIKE A LAWYER WITH INTELLIGENCE, and they will act right. TAKE PICS OF ALL YOUR LOAD INFO. Not hard to out smart them
Number one if you’re a truck driver, no the law dispatch can’t force you to do anything when the trucks not safe and they can’t fire you cause you can sue the heck out of them stand up for your Flippin rights

Western Express is literally one of the top worst trucking companies out there.
They need to pass a law that makes it illegal for carriers to leave drivers stranded.

Protect other drivers
Humble and grateful you shared❤
Just like with so many other trucking companies, sadly, they just keep bringing in large numbers of people that should never be behind the wheel of a semi

i went there for orientation and they put me in a hotel with someone i didn't know. the hotel was in crime area. the first day of orientation they made do a physical and when we went in the room to take it they locked the after every one came in to do a physical. this is the first time I felt like a prisoner Dearing orientation.

Back in the late 90’s my Trainer taught me how to cheat my logbook and I got to back up one time. He was a sad excuse and basically used trainees for their hours.
All these mega carriers are running the industry into the ground. They train a driver enough to get the truck out of the yard. Disgrace.
Wow I've seen so many people complain about Western Express I have no clue how the hell they're still in business it's a damn shame if my stuff would have come up missing me and the trainer would have been going at it laptop disappears then the wallet then it magically reappears we would have been scrapping that's crazy
I work for them 7 years ago everything he was saying is true nothing's changed since then I see
There was a old timer I talked to he said it was better when the father owned the company ever since he died it went to shit!
😮
It sounds like a fubar situation to me somebody needs to investigate this company
Every truck accident I have seen in Tennessee has been Western Express!!
Been through that for the three months I barely survived there, total garbage company
Need to share all these stories with #SmartTrucking also.
Out in CA my driver side spring broke on tractor. Called dispatch
they said "take it easy and keep a eye on it, bring it on back to Indiana.
Cab was leaning badly, could not believe DOT, or weigh stations didn't

I was at Welfare Express for 30 days. If the hotel is bad then you should run away quickly. I got a really bad feeling when I saw the hotel. My experience wasn’t as bad as his but I left 30 days later. Be aware….

Wait a damn minute! 4 flat tires? How does that happen? You run over a bed of nails? You drill them yourself? This is complete nonsense 😂
He lying he just said they sent a money code but he never got his money back
I noticed that too
Money code is to pay a lumper fee. It's an advance to pay a lumper which is reimbursed on your paycheck. It is possible that he was not reimbursed.
I just saw a brand new trailer Friday around Central NY area..yeah I was shocked 😂
@@wilE6764 must be a floor model to attract drivers. Prob going right into storage
they have brand new 2023 and 2024 great Dane flatbed freedom LT trailers.
I was a trainer for we in flat bed and dry van. It was a wild ride for sure.
They tried to push me into training after 3 month’s experience
Yeah and the pay is 😒
Simply saying no goes a long way.
What a sad industry right now
This always been the tradition alot of us never complained trainer being sleep made me a better driver
Go straight to a scale ask for an inspection and have it put out of service until it's fixed

First job was there and they gave me a dog shit infested truck batteries where dead several dot violations and charged me $2500 to get out of driving for them! I have videos and pictures of the truck and the damages on the truck

Damn Convict Express, dirty rooms dirty food, at the Orange-and-tatian. got robbed, by the trainer.
For people thinking about going to Western Express... Don't.
All he had to do was pull into a scale and ask for a DOT inspection. The company would have to fix that equipment at the scale house.
There is downside to it. 15 years back you could do it but now it counts against you and the company on you CSA score.

The funny thing is everything he says is the truth he is not making this stuff up from top of his head 😅 western express is the new swift just at a lower capacity swift has been getting better over the years I haven’t heard much about them being in wrecks recently 😂 mark my words western express will be out of business by 2025
Safety dept can be a driver's best friend our your worst nightmare. This is the time to call safety..
When a company tell you to drive unsafely example: on a bad tire just volunteer to a DOT inspection.
And when you do volunteer you show them the messages.
@@1EVAFRESH That seems logical but it would probably be up to the DOT officer. If equipment isn't up to standard the driver isn't supposed to move it.
@@terrancesneed3757 hopefully the guy that pulls you into the scale house understands...while we know we ain't supposed to move it we aren't tryna waste time arguing with a DM or breakdown.
