PSA for all truck driver. Here's the true battle truck drivers will have to fight I've laid it out. Knowledge is power truly enjoy the truth.
Trucker driver strikes, like any other form of protest, can have varying degrees of success depending on several factors. While it is not accurate to say that all trucker driver strikes always fail, there are certain challenges and limitations that can make them less effective or hinder their organization. Here are some reasons why trucker driver strikes may face difficulties and how they can impact their chances of success:
      1. Lack of unified organization: The success of any strike relies heavily on strong organization and coordination among the participants. Truck drivers are often independent contractors or work for different companies, which can make it challenging to achieve a unified front. Without a centralized organizing body or union, it becomes harder to gather widespread support and effectively negotiate with employers or the government.
      2. Fragmented demands: In many cases, trucker driver strikes occur due to various grievances and demands from different groups of drivers. These demands can vary in nature, such as improved pay, better working conditions, or changes in regulations. When the demands are not clearly defined or aligned, it becomes difficult to present a united front and negotiate effectively with the relevant stakeholders.
      3. Economic consequences: Trucking is a critical industry that plays a significant role in the transportation of goods across the country. When trucker driver strikes occur, there can be significant economic consequences, including disruptions in the supply chain, delays in deliveries, and increased costs for businesses. These consequences can lead to public backlash and reduced public support for the strike, making it harder to achieve the desired outcomes.
      4. Legal restrictions: In some countries or jurisdictions, there might be legal restrictions or regulations that limit the ability of truck drivers to strike. These restrictions can include laws that designate truck drivers as essential workers or impose restrictions on strikes in certain industries. Such legal barriers can make it challenging to organize effective strikes or garner public sympathy.
      5. Time frame and government attention: The time frame required to get the government's attention through a trucker driver strike can vary significantly. Governments often have established procedures and channels for addressing labor issues and resolving disputes. These processes may involve negotiations, legal proceedings, or regulatory changes, which can take time. The duration of a strike and its impact on the economy and public sentiment can influence how quickly the government responds to the demands of the truck drivers.
While it is challenging to determine a specific time frame to get the government's attention, sustained strikes with widespread participation, clear demands, and strong public support can increase the likelihood of governments taking notice and engaging in negotiations. Additionally, the effectiveness of a strike can also depend on factors such as political climate, public sentiment, media coverage, and the willingness of government officials to address the concerns of the truck drivers.
It's important to note that the success or failure of trucker driver strikes is not predetermined, and there have been instances where such strikes have achieved their objectives. However, the challenges and limitations mentioned above can make it more difficult to organize and achieve desired outcomes.
In the United States, there are legal restrictions and regulations that impact the ability of truck drivers to form a unified union or engage in strikes. While I can provide some general information, please note that specific laws and regulations may vary at the federal, state, and local levels. Here are some key points to consider:
      1. Independent contractor status: Many truck drivers in the United States are classified as independent contractors rather than employees. This classification can limit their ability to form unions under federal labor laws, as independent contractors are not afforded the same rights and protections as employees. Independent contractors typically do not have the legal right to engage in collective bargaining or unionize.
      2. The National Labor Relations Act (NLRA): The NLRA, enacted in 1935, grants most private sector employees the right to form, join, or assist labor organizations (unions) and engage in collective bargaining. However, there are certain exceptions and exclusions that may apply to specific industries or types of workers. For example, agricultural laborers, independent contractors, and supervisors are generally excluded from the protections of the NLRA.
      3. State laws: Some states have enacted laws that further regulate or limit the ability of truck drivers to form unions or engage in strikes. These laws can vary significantly from state to state. For instance, some states have right-to-work laws, which prohibit agreements that require employees to join or pay dues to a union as a condition of employment.
      4. Restrictions on strikes: There are no specific laws in the United States that ban strikes by truck drivers. However, there are legal restrictions on strikes that apply to all industries. For example, the Railway Labor Act (RLA) governs labor relations in the airline and railroad industries and includes provisions related to strikes, mediation, and arbitration.
      5. Legal challenges and court decisions: Over the years, legal challenges and court decisions have shaped the landscape of labor rights and unionization in the United States. Some court rulings have expanded or restricted the rights of specific groups of workers, including truck drivers, to unionize or engage in collective action.

I paid my last truck off in the end of 2009 and march of 2010 sold it, let my CDL go ( so i wouldn't return ) and didn't look back. We as drivers always attempted and screamed for this to happen and well you know it didn't. So good to see these things taking place. Just so many drivers not willing to save enough money and prepare for a shut down. For whatever reason they just allow the government to do what they want. After dedicating 16 years of my soul to trucking i just couldn't afford to losing everything ONCE AGAIN and starting all over. Honestly and keeping it real here, I sometimes do miss trucking because i enjoyed my freedom on the road, but now that it's been this long I'm glad i took that path after witnessing how bad it is now. The income was pretty good then but to keep it great i had to be a prisoner in my own truck nonstop. You will someday realize in the future your Family is much more important then any job, and my hopes are you recognize it before it's too late. Love all you truckers and what you do. Keep striving and thanks for your dedication too keep food on our tables.

I agree for the most part, but it’s not easy for every driver to save money. Trucks break down, reefers break down, I left my job to help my hubby run his small 8 truck fleet. So I needed to get paid. I did everything aside for drive. I was paid $500 a week and had to buy food and household needs from that. In 7 years I did manage to save about $12,500.
But thats nothing . It’s just emergency money we don’t touch.
Now after 7 years, we just can’t make it, we have to go bankrupt. Loads don’t even pay enough for our drivers to buy fuel . Insurance is too high. Tolls are high. Fuel is still high. Truck repairs every week, reefer repairs too. It’s very bad. We tried so hard . Hubby took out so many loans to keep the business going. He had to stop paying me this month. So I work for free and have to buy food and water and any other need, with my credit cards. We just can’t do it anymore. Hubby is very sad coz he feels like a failure. But it’s not his fault. His broker friends have told us that they’re getting calls from ppl offering to do loads for 75% less than we did them for. We don’t know how they’re even making money taking loads for $400 when it costs more just to fuel the truck. Something is going on and we don’t know what . We suspect it’s illegals . Biden and his wide open borders have destroyed our country and economy. Ppl are too blind to see….. I fear we may never recover and are headed for a worst depression than the one back in the 20’s… I’m gonna pray for us all and for our country….😢😢😢

I was an owner operator and quit not long after deregulation in the 80's. Back then my Toyo tires cost $350 times 10, oil was way high, fuel was up and the big companies could cut costs by buying large amounts of all those things. Trip insurance was crazy and the big guys were self insured. I went back into the military and drove trucks there. No state or federal garbage. I hope truckers are successful in this protest, as a consumer (and old man now) I am willing to pay more for products (hopefully US made) to support my old sisters and brothers. Good luck!

Focus on another bag instead of stressing yourself out negotiating with these trash brokers and against these cheap haulers . My opinion . We definitely need a good chunk of drivers to leave the industry. Not go company driver; completely leave. We need the big companies to struggle and not cover all the loads so good O/O’s can get contracts in place and have a decent spot market.
There is no “driver shortage”, only a shortage of people willing to be Lytx camera harassed for crap pay in a hot truck that won’t idle.
Strikes and boycotts can only lead to more regulations that in the end will only stifle and hurt good O/O’s making it more difficult for them to make a fair wage.
The regulations only benefit the mega companies when it’s all agreed on and written into law.
This is simple supply and demand.
We still have a major influx of Covid drivers that cashed in while the rates were good. They need to go get a non-driving job and leave the industry.
The market is highly saturated with trucks and drivers!
This is the real reason loads are paying trash rates!

From a strategic standpoint, this is a bad move. The reason the Canadian truck protest worked because they protested not just for themselves, but for their nation. In other words, they fought for something greater. Far from trying to earn more money, the Canadians were willing to lose lots of money to fight for what they wanted... of all the problems facing California, cheap freight is near the bottom. I heard one of the things mentioned (fuel) surcharge. There’s something that many owner operators aren’t paying attention to is the brokers, companies they are adding the fuel surcharge in which is given to them to give the owner operators to help off set some of the cost we pay for fuel. the brokers agent’s are taking the fuel surcharge and adding it in to what they are paying to haul the load when they by doing this get to actually pay owner operators less and they keep more of their own money. Question ???? for owner operators do we pay for our fuel out of our own pockets or do those agents broker pay for our fuel???? The point I’m making is the brokers ,agents are suppose to becgiving us that money by it’s self and pay to haul load with out adding fuel surcharge to what the load pays. Example a load pays $2000 dollars but this includes our fuel surcharge ; the agent or broker adds the fuel surcharge $150 to what they originally paying which is $1850 so ask yourselves are you really getting $2000 when in fact they added the fuel surcharge on top of the $1850 (the fuel surcharge is suppose to be ours anyway) they do this because they aren’t honest and they are greedy so they do it to make the price look better. So actually my owner operator trucker’s we are being bamboozled. Actually the freight isn’t paying when you subtract the fuel surcharge which is suppose to come straight to us outside off what the load is paying. I been caught on to this years ago.

In fact, I'm looking to take on an hourly gig doing roll-off dumpsters.

Most of what I've done has been containers and dry van work. At both the receiver and the shipper they have up to 2 free hours. This is for such hours shot in the ass of our allowable 14-hour clock. This doesn't even take into account the times when they take more than 2 hours.
Therefore, each play takes two hours in one log book, this only allows 10 hours out of the 11 allowed per 14-hour block. And in the Chicagoland area especially when you get closer to the city of Chicago, I figure rates more by time than by the mile since it could take an hour to go 15 miles on many expressways and this is even ones without Construction foing on.

I had my fill of California’s over regulation for truckers 13 years ago. Since then I have not hauled freight in or out of California. I don’t like their lower speed limits, lack of parking for trucks, the CHP targeting trucks to see how many trucks they can write tickets to and now the low freight rates, that is the most trucker unfriendly state. I have not been to California in 13 years and will never return for business or pleasure. STOP ALL FREIGHT IN OR OUT OF CALIFORNIA FOREVER.

I feel for u O/O right now. I'm a company driver and only been in this industry for about a 10 months now in Detroit Mi area and I came up in poverty and always made sure to not live above my means. I feel like a lot of guys ran up there bills by getting that expensive newer semi, big ol lifted trucks, wife's got a new car, got big ol mortgages and dug yourselves into a hole. I came from25 yrs of roofing and I made peanuts compared to what I make now but I've been able to manage very well for my family. I waited for the recession and bought a $60k home 1000sq ft and I have 2 used 2015 vehicles that I can afford and I'm killing it right now. I only made around 30k at roofing and now I'm on track to make around $60k for the year. I did have a dream of being an o/o but I know that dream isn't in my near future . I don't see nobody listening to u guys and I wish there is something I could help with but I never had plans of being otr . I'm staying local so I can be close to my family and within a couple hours reach of em. I can't complain about nothing. I've been able to save up a lot of money and my family is good. I have benefits and a retirement plan. I ain't gonna get that many years out of trucking. I'm 45 so I'm only looking at 20 yrs at this and that time flies by. I hope u guys get better rates tho but I think I got a better chance at making even more money with my union negotiating with the companies for better hourly wages. Maybe this industry just isn't an O/O industry anymore and y'all might have to adjust with the times. Good luck tho but like I said I just don't see them listening to y'all because what y'all won't do mega carriers will get company drivers to do I think. And honestly OTR should disappear and we should relay loads state to state maybe. 🤷🏻‍♂️ being an O/O sounds like a dream but right now it's a nightmare. Good look guys! Wish I could help but I've learned to survive and sometimes u gotta take 1 step back in order to take 3 steps forward.

It’s funny how people keep on saying stop driving to California 😅. The rates are bad EVERYWHERE. Unfortunately brokers know that their loads are going to be moved by some desperate driver. Trust me I get it times are extremely tough out here, but try to show some pride out here guys. This fkn broker wanted me to underbid a fellow O/O. I said, give it to him then since my asking price is higher. The next day he posted the load at a lesser price and was still on the board at their pick up time. I’m hoping he wasn’t able to move it, but unfortunately I doubt it.

    • @sherrydalton6516

They may be bad everywhere, but California is especially evil ~ they’re leading the way in the movement towards replacing current diesel trucks with electric trucks, because they think climate change is actually a real problem. 🙄 This will make all truck drivers obsolete. All truck drivers, including company drivers, need to refuse to deliver to California! No exceptions! When the shelves go bare and people begin to starve and riot, Newsom will change his tune because he won’t have any choice. #CutThemOff

OK I’m going to weigh in on this a little bit. I recently went from a lease purchase to a company driver for an Indian owned company they promised the moon and stars and of course so far that has been a lie. We will see what the next couple weeks brings however my Dispatch is in India not even in America, this is a problem. Dispatch needs to be regulated and local. There needs to be repercussions for companies that make offers they cannot and will not follow through with. So far it has been a learning experience for me in the one week I have been with them. So more than likely I’m going to get into another lease in the next couple weeks if these guys do not follow through with their promises.
Some thing that needs to happen is this whole safety thing needs to be reevaluated I don’t know about you Alex or anybody else have you ever driven a truck prior to these T6 80s and 579 Peterbilt’s you know trucks that you actually had to drive versus ones that have adaptive cruise control and what not . I absolutely cannot stand a truck that slams the brakes on for you when it is completely unnecessary it is dangerous extremely dangerous very distracting lane departure constantly going off because the white line moved a little tiny bit on the shoulder or disappears because of construction or an on-ramp constantly having the truck beeping at you For every little thing and then just slowing down because your four or five truck Lanks behind the truck in front of you then you override the cruise control to maintain your speed while waiting for a car to pass you and then your truck slams on the brakes because it thinks you’re going to hit something that’s still 3 to 4 blanks ahead of you this is utter garbage we need to get rid of this crap same with the inward-facing cameras first time I’ve ever had to deal with one absolutely cannot stand it. I looked in my mirror going around the corner my inward-facing camera started notifying me and sending messages to the safety administrator that I was distracted while driving because I was looking in my mirror going around the corner in a construction zone doing exactly what you’re supposed to do as a driver. He’s inward facing cameras need to be abolished the AI features in these cameras needs to be removed. California and the CARB needs to back the hell off. Last I heard we still can’t get replacement parts for emissions systems matter of fact last year the company I was with deleted several trucks just because of that. Trucks should not be governed below the legal speed limit for the routes which they travel meaning if you’re in an 80 mph zone you better be able to do 80 having your pedal speed governed lower than your cruise control speed should be illegal in every case. CB radios should be mandatory in every truck everyone needs to be held to the current law that states you must be able to speak English in America and be able to understand and communicate with other drivers shippers receivers and brokers should all be held to the same standard. The FCC needs to actively monitor channel 19, 17 and 9 take action against those ham operators flooding the channels that truck drivers normally use with massive amounts of watts. It is ridiculous when you’re trying to talk to another truck to warn them about an accident that they need to stop when our four Watt radio is getting over powered by 10,000 Watts from five states away. All scales should be free.

I was in a Kenworth two years ago and it was three years old and have on the automated manual. Everyday I work for the company I would bet you about how it was just impossible for me to drive it. I quit after 2 weeks and accompany stiffed me and I'm taking him to court next month hopefully and going to get my $4,000.
I'm driving my own truck tractor semi-trailer combination or I'm just going to drive a class B truck and haul beer or something and be paid by the hour.
