I enjoyed the Stoat growing increasingly frustrated as John ignored his hints on how to escape the murder cabin because he's having more fun playing cards with the weird forest monster
Maybe that's not a bad thing? (Lore / story wise.)
That stout is me in most John play throughs
After I beat the game I went back and just did runs of the cabin over and over which has some pretty rad little bits. Especially if you try and force past the parts where you are "supposed" to lose.
@@GirlPlus It's possible to win those too, when you know the grizzlies are coming you can stack your hand in advance, get a ton of pelts, and win by killing two of the grizzlies on one side, blocking the other three with whatever cards you have, and then dealing 5 damage on the free lane.

When the Angler put out all those grizzly bears, he said, "Too fast, too soon."
That was because the game didn't want you to beat the Angler in your first go. It wanted you to learn about bones first.
Learn about bones and also introduce the concept of death cards
That and the DM in the first part gets mad when you go off the track too bad. The classic ”rocks fall and you die” scenario of a raging DM.

i don’t typically comment on things, but i would really enjoy seeing a series of this. you clearly have a very strong grasp of the strategy, greater than most who approach this game would, and it’s highly entertaining to watch. would love a series if you would be so willing.

The reason you got hit with a full stack of grizzlies when you fought the angler the first time is actually bc you were doing too well on your first run 😂 it happens when you’re progressing too fast, which the storyteller doesn’t like
You can also hit them on the third boss as well.
@@allanbaker3958 very true, and not just on the first run, it depends on how far you get on an early run
It is possible to beat the grizzlies (I did it with two deathtouch cards, a wolf and a lot of pelts/squirrels) and if you do manage to do that then he doesn't force you to fight the grizzlies on future bosses. At least he didn't with me, I beat the Angler's stack (I lost to it on the Prospector so I was certain it was coming) and then the third boss didn't use the grizzlies on me.

the horror elements created a tension that had me fearful at times, wondering if the shadow figure might lunge at you as you look around the cabin. the Stoat is a gem (didn't know what a stoat was until this game, oddly enough) and the art style is captivating. it's a strategy game with an easy to understand tutorial and intriguing story. would LOVE to see more of this !!

Only half an hour in, and personally I would love for John to continue this game! It seems rather unique compared to a lot of horror games, but most of all I enjoy videos where John seems to be having fun!

Lol I loved The relationship between the Stoat & John's friendship in the game. This was probably the most fun and relaxing video I have seen and it's because John is genuinely into this. I REALLY want to see a part 2. Fantastic unusual game! Love it 😊

The first time John faced the Angler he was not meant to live, it is part of the game. "TOO FAST, TOO SOON" as in your beating the game too fast, winning too soon. It can happen in any boss battle. So good on you for being too good.
I actually managed to beat the Grizzly Onslaught on the second boss with a lucky mothman on board + scissors. Too bad I lost to RNG on the third.

I honestly don’t get overly enthralled in card games, but something about this just puts it into a whole new perspective. I adore MTG, and this is just an amazing visualization and take on it, I adore it.
Edit: I’m probably gonna buy it and play it for myself LOL
two things:
-tbh I was fully waiting for john to play this game even if it took a whole month and it was worth the wait
-john using his "talking about/to a dog" voice when referring to the stoat's eyes being closed
Whilst I'd watch John play just about anything, it's really nice to see a game that tickles his fancy rather than a bland jumpscare simulator. Hoping for part 2
I just started watching John a couple weeks ago and was thinking "I want to see what games he actually likes". Don't get me wrong, I love his style of criticism, but this quickly became my favorite game and it feels good to see him have so much fun with it ^_^

Would love to see more of this game! Literally anything John is this into is just the most fun to watch in general - I don't even care if it's something I'd normally try out myself. And on top of that I super want to see where this goes. And maybe more of the stoat grumbling about the lastest victim enjoying cards too much to solve the cabin's puzzles. Seriously though, super great watch and cool to see John's takes on the strategy as the game evolves.
My favorite part of watching LPs of this game is how easy it is to get invested, I haven’t seen anybody NOT do a voice for the Prospector so far (even Manlybadasshero, who’s whole thing is being monotone!) I’m glad John’s enjoying the game so far, this was a ton of fun to watch!
I feel like Manly only does voices when he really gets into games
I've watched other playthroughs of this, at least partially, and I can tell that this is a game that John will really enjoy. I'd love to see him play it all the way through in a series, but hope he keeps playing even if we don't get to see it. I know I'll be watching if the series keeps on going. It is fun watching John play different stuff.

You are BY FAR the most strategic and calculated player I've seen yet. (Of my favorite let's players) even your mistakes make sense and seeing how you figure it out (and trash talk) is entertaining.

This game is such a great change of pace imo. I mean, don't get me wrong, I enjoy being hooked upon a game and watch it closely with John's commentary on top as well, but having something more chill that you need to use your brain more than trying to navigate around the environment and take everything in, is a very welcome different perspective.
I am enjoying this so far. I’m 30 minutes in and seems fun. Definitely should make another part , I do love the Stoat. Great character, the opponent is a unique character
Personally, I'd love to see a series of this. I've seen a couple other people playing it before but I feel like it just really fits with you more than most others. You're clearly very strategic with your choices in games like this and I love seeing that.
Somewhat aside from that but I'd also absolutely love to see this game come to mobile. Hope the dev has plans for that. Mobile is absolutely made for good card games like this.
I've watched a couple playthroughs of this already, but I'm so, so glad to see John playing it. Really looking forward to his take on it.

I watched someone played it and kept saying how much I wished John would play this . He always wants something diff and this is far from diff than his other games he doesn't enjoy so much

YES, please turn this into a series. I blasted through it in four sittings with barely any breaks. This is some genuine game of the year stuff imo and I would love to see you experience the rest as well.
I’d love to watch more of this. Also I think the 8 grizzlies and the “too fast too soon” is about beating it too fast? And then the box you just unlocked its just small puzzles that you have to solve and opens each as a compartment/drawer
The slider puzzle is basically you trying to get 5 damage to your opponent. Everything that isn't locked in place you can slide up and down.
that happened bc john hadnt died prior to the angler! once he died the fight went as it was supposed to :) its really hard to beat the prospector first time, i didnt know you even could til now. i died twice before i beat him haha!
I absolutely loved watching John play this, he actually thinks through his moves which is refreshing. He's the first person I watched who got past the prospector first try
I love this type of game! Keep playing stuff more complicated than “run around hallways and read notes” I promise we like it

30:30 if you’re having a good time, then most of us will be continuing to watch - this is actually the first card game I’ve watched on TH-cam as I usually watch visual novel type stuff or anything with a cool story, but your explanations and excitement while playing have drawn me in. Loved the hell out of you playing this. Of course its one of those videos that not everyone will like because it can be confusing or boring to watch. But hot damn I CANT get enough of you playing this man. The voices you do and how happy you get during new cards or twists is mad entertaining.

I have seen this game around a lot, and my one thought was "This looks like Slay the Spire but it's a DnD Campaign with a bit of Darkest Dungeon Aesthetic" and immediately thought of you. You are the ONE person I wanted to watch play this game, ended up caving a day before you uploaded and watched someone else, and purchased the game myself. Very happy to see you play this and enjoy it! I felt like you would, I really do hope to see you continue!
Probably best to stick to recording and not streaming it, though, as you're right about the folks with the loud megamind plays.
What I love about people playing this game is how they get sucked into the DM/GM’s atmospheric narration and begin to read his lines accordingly. It’s so charming how quickly they get drawn into the roleplaying aspect.

This is SO entertaining. It's so fast paced and fun and I would love to see more of this
Kinda impressed how long it took for John to learn that the scale tips with damage. The closer you are to victory the more damage he has to deal to defeat you and vice versa.
Also the value of the Geck is that it is a damage dealing card that costs nothing. It's essentially just a squirrel that can attack.
So glad he's finally playing this. John you should definitely keep playing this, we would love to see it

One thing I love about you John is when you get so good at a game you just demolish it from being amazing. You did this with Resident Evil 7 which was one of ny favorite series you did.
I am a huge fan of Magix the gathering but I'm not very good at it so this was super fun to watch. I hope you continue to do this series and more games like this. Although it may get confusing at times it doesn't dimish how much fun it is to watch and how much fun it is to watch you truly enjoying a game.
I like how he kept confusing the mushroom for a tooth even though you can literally see it grow out of the table and it has a stem. lol. Color does resemble one at least to be fair.

I don’t normally comment on videos, but I really - REALLY would like to see a full game play or series of this! I enjoyed watching the stoat’s n johns friendship grow throughout every level. I loved your play through, it was nice hearing your thought process and hearing the narrator! It’s a very unique game combo. I’m a big fan of card/roguelike games, so this seems right up my alley!
Absolutely love this one. Watched other playthroughs and it seems John is playing the cards a lot more correctly with squirrels, while other youtubers just keep pulling their own cards but nothing to sacrifice.
I’ve watched Sean and Mark play this and am greatly enjoying how they’ve all chosen different voices for the characters 😂 It’s like seeing them all read a disturbing bedtime story!

keep em coming. the more intricate games probably pull less views because its always casual to put on some shitty indie horror comp and listen to you fight through it in the background. This game is SO good, bought it out of curiosity only knowing that it's a "roguelike card game" and it's now one of my favorite games of the past few years!
