This is an interesting home invasion horror game - mostly it was just entertaining, though! Get ready to play as a mild-mannered middle schooler who gets repeatedly punched in the face by adult criminals who insist they are "not gonna hurt ya"

I love how that's the suspicious part, and not the fact that the dad told his wife that he had a secret plan to cure Irene that he wouldn't tell her. That's sus af no matter how you cut it.

I think the thing I love about this game is how nonsensical it is in the weirdest of ways. like, Irene's illness is nbd enough that she can wait to take her pills after dinner, but it's also so bad that *even having taken her meds at dinner* she needs to take them again in the middle of the night because otherwise she straight up can't breathe. they act like her meds are a miracle cure too, like she's finally gonna get better, but she seems to only get worse as the game goes on, just so you have more fruitless fetch quests to go on. I love it.
I think it was anxiety meds and the breathing was completely unrelated
@@macandfries6765 it's not. in the video log when the father is explaining the illness he says that at first they thought it was asthma, and when they get the real diagnosis they decide to keep the truth from her and tell her it's just asthma. it's a physical sickness that makes it hard to breathe.
When I read "But with a twist" I thought the family were the intruders and the real home owners would come back.
That would have been way better, LOL.

This game is so odd in that the overall quality is decent, yet the experience of watching it (or probably playing it myself) feels extremely obnoxious
It's mainly the voice acting that makes it feel that way...

it feels more like an alpha then an actual full game, the gameplay elements are very poor and feel slapped together this game could of easily been turned into a good 2 hour long stealth game if the A.I was better and more balanced, such as their line of sight and how quickly they detect you, their running speed during chase. More area's of the house could of been expanded upon... to make them play a bigger role in progressing the game further.
The game could of been less hand holdy and implement more things to do to progress further so you could actually spend time using your brain to figure out puzzles or clues yourself to move forward with the story... they could of even added a distraction mechanic... say... knocking on a wall, or throwing objects to distract the enemies... however if used to often maybe they'll figure out the trajectory of where it was thrown and search near that area...
everything else is good though, such as the art style, character models, house layout/design, voice acting was decent, but a bit odd at times...
It's the writing as well. It's like a pre-teen wrote it.

It’s insane to me how they got good voice actors and the voice acting still sounds weird, these voice actors were in some bigs projects too. How did the creators even ask them to be in this? Why this?
Sometimes great talent is wasted by bad/lacking direction
The voice actress for Ben and Ashley and maybe the mom too(?) I recognize as being a known or use to be known VA for anime. The others I don't recognize but they probably did anime too. The dad and Denis sound like they would be picked for anime voice overs. Maybe the dev is someone who is close friends with these guys or is a relative to one of them. That is always a possibility.

This game has a neat concept. I think there were some gameplay things that need to be tightened up and the writing could use a little reworking, but the idea is definitely cool.

Looks like a somewhat fun game at times, but the story could have had so much better writing. You can see the twist from a mile away. The dad is represented as sinister with a secret from the start. On the other hand, Dennis, who should be essential for the twist and someone grey enough as both the victim and the insane avenger is turned into a cardboard villain with extremely cartoonish behavior (like the maniacal laughter and silly 'psychotic' comments about music). We should feel something for him, but we don't. He doesn't feel like someone who was tortured and wants to punish his abuser.
The hacker girl is never fleshed out, she shows some random signs of remorse near the end but then you just kill her by ramming the car into her. Just lazy. The only "villain" that somewhat makes sense is Mike, cause he is actually somewhat grey, but is still pretty cliche.
Also, why the hell did the father turn into freakin' Dr. Death? I get it that he decided to experiment on unwilling "patients" and that he had to kill them afterwards, but what kind of results did he get from torturing them? How did the girl being in pain for days bring him to the cure for leukodestrophy? It's all kinda over the top.
Like John said, whom are you supposed to root for here? The kids, I guess, but they are pretty much blank slates as characters. The mother (that gets to narrate the "good ending") is very much a villain too. She obviously knew and didn't care to find out as long as her girl was fine. She's an example of how willful ignorance is just as evil.
So, in the end, it's a fun idea that wasn't written well and is riddled with cliches and 2d characters that don't really support it properly.

Despite the hide and seek part being sort of junky, I thought the story was super interesting, despite bad writing, I liked the idea of it.

The other ending, with the "push bad man" prompt, has Ben going over the cliff with the other two. The epilogue narration has an older Irene, now undergoing therapy, talking to Ben about how much she misses him. She comes to terms with the fact that, despite learning what a monster her dad is and how her greatest fear is becoming like him, she still loves him. She thanks Ben for being such a positive role model to her, and believes he's still saving her life, years later.
As goofy as this game gets at times, this hits unbelievably close to home. I don't know if I'd use the word "depressing" to describe it, it's surprisingly somber.

Funny, the voice reminded me of Leo Stenbuck from ZOE, who is kinda a Shinji-Expy in being a whiny little boy that has to pilot a giant mecha against his will. He got better over time though.

The voice actor for "Life Is Strange hacker girl" is the same lady who voiced the main character in The Park. She's way too good to be saddled with such bad roles.
i couldn't really get immersed into the story because of how silly the characters are and the plot being driven by something so generic, revenge as a motivation for the villain really didn't help with that, it just felt really vague and the characters being so unrealistic didn't help with that
also the gameplay is really boring, a slow keyhunt with enemies that are almost impossible to lose but that otherwise are too easy to pass by

Tbf, i don't think the main villain took a moral stand point against the experiments. I think he was just really bitter due to what was done to him. It's a classic "blinded by revenge" story.
Still, I somehow feel the execution was a bit off. The very shallow stealth gameplay can't help either.
I mean people like those exist. It doesn't have to be a perfect, moralized villain. But yea it is so saturated in any plot it's jarring at this point.

Honestly, this should have been a 2 part game. It was all over the place. This entire game is really just the pinnacle of wasted opportunities and poor execution. All the ingredients to a good game were already there, but the devs pulled it out of the oven 10 minutes into it baking. Leaving it a half baked, gooey mess

I played this in VR a year ago. It was a lot of fun, and I’m not a huge ‘stealth’ fan. VR is ALWAYS the best way to play a horror game, if available. Makes it a thousand times more intense and a thousand times scarier.
Watching gamers play, for ex: RE7, the regular way…and I’m like, “what are you doing?”
