I'm right-leaning. People on the right always complain about woke authoritarianism, but they end up siding with right-wing authoritarianism to battle that. You don't have to pick an extreme to fight the other extreme.

    • @wolfswinkel8906
      @wolfswinkel8906 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

normal methods don't work against extremism. Somehow America has to figure out how both sides can resume reasonable, rational and respectful discourse again... or the devolution into anarchy will only accelerate from here.

    • @samgray49
      @samgray49 หลายเดือนก่อน +11

I agree. I am left-leaning and I notice that both extremes are authoritarian. Recently I got called "a liberal" like it's a bad thing, and I have noticed that because of 247 news, you create a form of an echo chamber, which makes it hard to hold honest conversations. Like, a few nights ago my mom and grandma were talking about the document case, and I mentioned Trump can recommend documents be declassified but it has to go through the proper channels, and that he can't legally have them after he leaves. My grandma pointed her finger at me and called me a liberal, and how I was wrong. I explained that I wasn't, that the Presidential Records Act of 1978 means he can't. They called me wrong and I shouldn't believe everything on the internet, and just ignroed me when I mentioend it's a law and that the National Archives explains how the process works, on their website.
I think that people are picking extremes as a result of the echo chamber, and as a result, people are willing to embrace authoritariansm. Which left wing it's social-authoritariansm, so like what Tito and the USSR had, and on the right wing, authoritarian-nationalism, in the form of neo-fascism.

@@samgray49 I think it is also the black and white world view. A lot of people think you can be either a fan of one side and if you are not, it automatically means you are a fan of the other side. People want simple explanation of what is happening and who is who. Even if it doesn't represent reality. And it cannot, because reality is very complicated, now more than before.

I don't know of right wing people that are supportive of Putin. In my mind, people have mis-read this situation altogether. Here is my take on Tucker's positive comments about Russia: As bad as Russia is, they have components of their country that are enviable. It is hardly deniable that we are actively tearing down the greatest country that has ever been (not perfect). Observing that Russia has passed us in some respects should be a wakeup call. Ukraine territory is a whopping 603,628 square kilometers (233,062 sq mi), Russia at one point occupied a total of 161,000 km2 (62,000 sq mi) or almost 27% of Ukraine's territory and some has been librated so now we are down to 119,000 km2
What really gets me is that some ppl. are now saying why does Ukraine not just let Russia have the areas /land it’s just a small part of Ukraine anyway.....
A small part of Ukraine ...WE ARE taking about a land mass is 119,000 km2
In EU terms thats the size of Belgium, Holland, luxembourg all put together..
In UK terms that the size of all of Scotland and 80% of England all put together !!
In US terms is the size of South Carolina, West Virginia all put together !!
Why the f. should Ukraine give Russia all that land for what? TO ONLY be invaded some years later when Russia as had a brake and regrouped ,rebuilt its army and fortified positions !!
I SAY RUSSIA GETS TO TAKE LAND AND DEMAND UKRAINE CAN NOT JOIN NATO IS NOT ACCEPTABLE AT ALL !! Nobody wants to be a "buffer country". NO nation wants to have a little bit of freedom !!!! ; The whole concept is demeaning to an independent nation. NO nation wants to have a little bit of freedom and self-determination, like some sort of 2nd class country; That is not right, and Russia has no right to demand or bully Ukrainians or Ukraine to accept that Ukraine and its ppl. should become some sort of lap dog on a leash 2nd class country to serve kremlins geopolitical agenda; so Kremlin, Putin and RuZZans can feel better about themselves ...
---------It is embarrassing that the US and Europe do not support Ukraine more than they do , the US. were in Afghanistan for 20 years and achieved less than Ukraine in 2 years, and Ukraine is also a much stronger opponent with many more resources !! As a Norwegian I am ashamed of our policies in the west , the western nations governments use every opportunity to go on national TV and tell how much they support, but the truth is that we have only provided 94 Euros per inhabitant, it is ridiculous when we look at the size of Ukraine, the opponent and the way Russia has bombed cities in Ukraine back to the Stone Age, and that we (western nations ) have not lost a single person in the war , we are talking about Europe, democracy and freedom that Ukraine is defending , one can only be ashamed

@@onlygens1502 Appeasement & Armageddon: Giving in to Vladimir Putin’s nuclear blackmail will spark an unprecedented nuclear arms race and make a future nuclear war far more likely!!
There is a reason why the Soviet Union, nor any nuclear power, never launched a first strike (nuclear attack) since Word War 2, despite all of the Cold War fears that the Soviets would. And it’s because you can't launch a first strike without being annihilated in the second strike. I remember in the 80s when The Day After aired, and everyone hoped the Soviets would see the movie and learn the lesson. Probably not realizing the Soviets can be trusted to act in the best self-interests...which mutually assured destruction is clearly against... and that the Soviets knew this since the 60s, if not the 50s. -- How is it any different today?
Even if Putin had the launch codes (he doesn't), or the ability to order a first strike by himself (he doesn't), even he would know the response is not going to be 'more sanctions'. -- The only way I could fathom Russia using a nuclear weapon in Ukraine, or against any enemy country, is the FSB had a foolproof plan to blame am ISIS terror cell, or rogue Chechen element, or claim the Ukrainians did it in a false-flag conspiracy to frame the Russians. -- But that would require a convincing story on how such an element got the nuclear weapon 'elsewhere', and eliminating everyone involved in the planning and execution. Whatever the case, Russia would need absolute plausible deniability. -- Here's my two cents, if there was really a way to use a nuclear weapon against an enemy without equal repercussions, Russia and China (and the US) would have figured it out a long time ago and did it already.
All NATO must do is take out Moscow and 5 -6 other city's to take out all of Russia.... But Russia must take out city's all over the planet from USA , CANADA ,FRANCE UK. ALL OF EUROPE and as far away as , AUSTRALIA and so on and so on ...

      Russia 8,000 warheads
(Mixed delivery systems old mostly from the soviet union times NOT up to date systems )

It is sad that in the US, there is an unwillingness to take decisive action on any issue when we so desperately need it.
I like Millerman's perspective on understanding moral protest and agree with his solution to helping those people so they don't fall into the hands of radicals. I want to add that this lack of understanding isn't limited to one side or the other. They both lack apathy and knowledge of their opposition.
I've said it before, and I will repeat it: once everyone is willing to come together and talk about these issues with absolute respect and an open mind, we can work toward a solution. Only then can we see Freedom toward something rather than freedom from something.

Unity vs Freedom, love vs liberation. Love brings people together and self expression separates individuals; both are key to human existence. If you believe in a creator, the creator is unity and created us as individuals with choice, gave us freedom. So many of us choose to use our freedom to get closer to that source of unity.
I think that the point Dugan made in questioning how much unity is too much unity is key and why I argue for anarchy. We need to be unified as a tribe to survive but maybe the tribe is too big. It seems logistically possible to have states govern themselves (California and New York may want to split into two states) and have a consensus that the majority are being represented in the rules that people use to guide their liberty.
In other words, reduce the size of the group and you’re more likely to find like minded individuals who agree with your ideal liberties and in that agreement find unity in a community working towards thriving.

I despise this narrow minded regressive mentality in most Russians, it pains me to see wonderful books being censored, the lgbt parts being cut out. I dream to publish a book in my country and I don't want to make it strictly heterosexual just to get it accepted. That's partly why it scares me to see the amount of support towards Putin, as he is the symbol of aggressive traditionalism that hold the society back. I'm not saying I want Russia to be exactly like America, but such wild censorship on a legislative level is not a sign of a free country to me. When i watched federal channels with my grandma for 15 min, i wad struck with the amount of linguistic programming involved in every piece of news. The worst thing is elderly people don't have any other sources l of information sk that they blindly believe everything the government translates. I'm not anti Putin either, but I'm concerned about the culture of my people. There's too much hatred towards opposing sides and especially Ukraine. Such hatred is going to poison the haters themselves 😟

I’m right leaning but don’t categorize myself as conservative. I’m not religious, I don’t care about abortion laws, etc etc. I like Putin even though there is no doubt he’s a villain. He’s a strong and very smart leader and is best for Russia, although not the best for the rest of the world. Most of his people love him. He is also one of the counters for America’s unchecked power over the world. And he is against these progressive LGBT propaganda that the West is trying to push to the rest of the world with these pronouns, pseudo science like these extra genders, child sex change and mutilation, etc
He is a warmonger but so is the US, and US warmongering needs a counter like Russia China and India so that the rest of the world isn’t completely at their mercy. We need this multipolarity so that we are not at the mercy of one singular nation and its principles and culture

Well said. I often used to wonder why Europe insisted on cornering Russia with NATO expansion in peacetime, at the same time as the US withdrawing from key arms limitation treaties, and it made sense to me that Putin is reacting to the threat of the cancellation of mutually assured destruction in the event of a nuclear exchange. Undoing the balance of power and peace that followed the collapse of the USSR was a real dirty tactic. Only the worst of warmongers would do this.

Let me put it this way: this is the scenario where in some sport, you notice the team you have been rooting for is playing really, like really bad, terrible, and you are fed up and you decide to root for the opposing team and root for your original team to lose. That's what is going on right now and is why we approve of people like Putin. To put you in context, western leaders are so dominated by and sold out to external groups we no longer see them as reliable, but rather weak and corrupt. Then we have guys like Putin, which is the example of the other way around; those groups need to be in good terms with him rather in order to be ok.

AND ON A SIDE NOTE : NATO is already 500 km from Moscow via Latvia and 150 km from St, Petersburg via Estonia so the argument that NATO will get closer to Moscow if Ukraine joins NATO is BS there is 800 km from Kyiv to Moscow ..
    And her is a thought
If every neighbor you have is running to begging NATO to let them join NATO is it becouse you are such a nice and good neighbor?
Or is it because you act like a bully and are aggressive and invade your neighbor lands sending in troops and tanks

    Czechoslovakia 1968,
    Poland 1980
    Moldova 1990-91,
