Great find! When you're browsing under the hood look for an attachment in/on the exhaust manifold casting called a heat riser. It somehow helps to regulate engine temperature however crude of a device it is. My dad cursed them for always getting stuck and he would use liquid wrench and a hammer to get it rotating again. I don't know the range of years they were in use. Carburetors are a pain. No single improvement to gas engines has ever been more important than fuel injection and eventually a computer to control them better.

I agree, love the sound of a good carb, but hate all the trouble it can bring.
