As far as I'm concerned casinos are legally sanctioned organized crime. So I applaud you taking their money. They prey on the poor, the dumb, and the addicted. Casinos should be outlawed from offering games that are rigged in the House's favor. They should only make money via a rake fee or some similar model where they get paid for providing the venue. They can also make money by renting out hotel rooms and running restaurants on the premises. That should be the business model.
I began counting cards about eight years ago and it has been an up and down experience as it is for anyone who learns to "beat" the game. The one thing that I find interesting, is how you are so willing to put your face and name on camera, while being an advantage player. Most of the time, card counters prefer to not put their face out there so as to make sure that casinos do not know who they are.
I think he's making enough money from yt to make it worth it.

I’m a AP and what I’ve learned over the years is the absolute best way to avoid a back off is every once in a while leave the tables, walk over to the slots and throw $20 in and just sit there playing small spins.
Good idea. And leave while the counts are unfavorable to maximize the loss of table time.
I picked up on this when he told the story of the AP old asian guy in a previous video that would occasionally bet large when it was disadvantageous to and to hop around to other table games.
I'm full on addicted to this series. I actually can't wait until the next episode! Seriously though, tremendous job with this - an extremely well-produced series.

I'm loving this series Steven! I've been raised a gambler. Spent a good portion of my life playing poker as a living. I love to play blackjack. Your read on other players is totally accurate and the worst part of playing. Doesn't matter how big or small the table is. But like you said, when you bet big people are nicer and its really weird lol.
I honestly can't even imagine dealing with stuff like back-offs and arguing with security. Much respect that you could pull that off.

I agree with the stress of playing on someone else’s money. It’s always WAY more stressful and less rewarding for me because I don’t even get to keep all the profit. Not worth it if you can avoid it but when you need the financial backer, not much choice.

Everything about card counting seems really stressful but I love these videos!
Just watched a few of your recent videos and really enjoyed them. I happen to work for one of the Tribal governments that own a casino you visited in Washington and TH-cam randomly suggested one of your videos. I thought it was really cool how your understanding of law on Tribal lands evolved over the videos, most people don't understand that the laws are often different and your rights might not be what you think. I'm also happy that your experience at the casino owned by the Tribe I work for was one of the more pleasant ones, despite being backed off. I look forward to seeing how Vegas went, I'm hooked now!

The amount of politeness we see from different casinos (maybe yours) is really heartwarming. It is their private properties, they caught you off, they ask you to leave, you do. And this guy does, fair game.
The way he's called the police upon is fucking insane, this is just trying to infuse fear and doubts, this to me is manipulation of customers, it sounds really bad...
Loved that series! Seems like it is such a battle to keep playing though without getting backed off or kicked out, makes me wonder how you would do that full time all year.

As someone who financed his education with Poker, I am very happy that you have been this successful. The amount of money casinos extract is absolutely ridiculous. The difference to card counting, in Poker they actually still profit off of you.

Card counting is something I have always been fascinated with, and I never knew how easy it is for the casino security staff to pickup on your tells. Honestly, this was a bit disappointing. I was under the impression that I could learn to count cards and could never be discovered. Is this something that surprised you? Are there counter measures that you can use, as a card counter, to fly under the radar of casino security? I am assuming that as you practice more and more, and get more experience, you would get caught much less....? Thanks! Love the series...and was glad to see your return to TH-cam!

To be honest I cannot remember the exact math on the 25% expense calculation but it was rule of thumb back in the day. Variance is a killer and actual results can vary widely from mathematical expectation even with an edge. This is where money management is critical and I have never ever seen a correct figure written in books (not even close actually). Now add expenses, tipping, playing errors, poor game conditions, barrings etc into the mix and you can see the challenge. Many factors are eating away at your EV and it does not take much to make everything -EV and this is no joke. The only real way to control expenses is to live in the area you play at (I live in Washington btw) or add members to the team so you can share expenses on AirBnb, hotels, car rentals etc. Now the bank gets twice the hours on it with the same amount of expenses. Team play/joint bank eliminates many of these problems but creates problems in other areas. Expenses are probably the number one killer besides playing in bad games in which your EV is probably half (or even worse) of what you think it is. So lets take Stevens scenario at $66 an hour with $30 an hour in expenses. By playing in marginal conditions (bad pen being the biggest) or even playing a weak spread can easily eliminate the rest of your EV making the trip -EV overall.

This was fantastic to watch! 14 backoffs is very high for 46 sessions, so you must have been using a pretty wide spread (or maybe washington is just extra sweaty). You'd be out of casinos within a year at that rate 😉
About the long drive and feeling lonely, for me, long "lonely" drives are usually something I enjoy a lot. Just listening to your own tunes, relaxing with your own thoughts and mindlessly driving along highways and country roads is one of the few parts of the week where I can be truly myself and alone.

I think BJA is the best way to learn but I also use flash cards to stay flash. There’s an app called Anki (make sure you find the proper one, it’s on Mac, pc, iPhone and android). It’s very good

You are correct about the emotions. It is very difficult to not tilt and to remember that if done properly time is on your side. I find myself having to pair that with having to add some peculiar variances and what I call junk sessions added into my gameplay. I have to do this to keep the local casinos off of my scent. I use these junk sessions as training though. They cut into my EV but my EV is pretty high without it so I can get away with it. Just as you have probably experienced 1 good shoe tends to yeild crazy results. So I typically walk away once I hit that good shoe. Even if it is the first shoe of the night. Good work and keep up the content.
