    OK, maybe I'm a little late to the game on this video, but...
    Negative numbers were always a hassle in the count, especially going back and forth over zero. So, in six deck games I'd start the count at 20 and work up and down from there. It was easier to think "19" than -1. If I ever got down to zero, I suddenly needed to answer a text on my phone to let a few hands play out away from that mess.

      That's good for unbalanced count's but that screwed me up when I tried to do TC conversions on Hi-Lo. Having said that, if you're new and you want some positive EV while you practice shoe games. There are some pretty powerful unbalanced count's that are worth looking into.

      @@Blackjackapprenticeship for your tip #2 in this video you say to repeat the count mentally, but if its like negative, do you literally say "-5" or do you have a tip to distinguish between a - and + count? Obviously unless the count is 0, it will no go from + to - in 1 single card. Also and this is big, so we all know when a dealer has the cut card come out, they never get to the end of the shoe. So lets say the cut card comes and the hand finishes at a -2.... Per hi-lo the count must start and end on 0. But how can it end on 0 if you can not see all cards in play? • @tylerabbott7108

    Does the running counter affect variants besides initial bets and insurance? I’m assume high positive counts lead to higher initial bets and using insurance. Are there times in the middle of round it would affect against basic strategy? For example, let’s say you had 13 and the dealer has 4, would you still want to hit if the running count was very low negative? At what integer value does the running count begin to really affect your decisions in a typical casino shoe environment?

This past weekend I was playing $25 min double deck blackjack and I was so focused on the count that I actually stayed on a 4 card hand with aces in it that added up to 10. I think my running count was high so I accidentally added that into the total in my head and 'stayed'. After it was done, the dealer and the pit boss said, 'You know you stayed on a 10, right?' "I did??" I just said I miscounted ( which I did as I was so focused on the running count!). We all had a good laugh at my 'mistake'. • @zakkwyldesdmf13
    @zakkwyldesdmf13 ปีที่แล้ว

    If you really want to learn a handy shortcut for keeping the count locked it's connecting numbers with images. For instance "16" could be connected to your driver's licence. If you own two dogs think of a dog barking at you at the table when the count is at "2". "8" - think of a V8 engine or a sports car with a V8. Negative numbers - you flip the image in your head (the dog is upside down).

    Can't you use a negative count to your advantage as well as a positive one, to adjust from basic strategy according to the count?

    • @raffaelepiccini3405
      @raffaelepiccini3405 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In principle you could have variations that minimize the Casino's edge with a negative count, but the issue is that when the count is negative, the strategy that the dealer is forced to follow just becomes much better, he will bust much less often and have much higher values, so it will be much harder for you to beat it.. I don't think it's possible to have a positive EV game even with some fancy variations when the count is negative

    • @brandideruiter6067
      @brandideruiter6067 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Zero is just zero so yes you go -1 zero 1 for example if you were at -1 let's say and a 5 comes up your count is now zero because -1 + 1= 0. if a 2 comes up next, you are now at a 1. The whole deck it's self adds up to zero. There are 4 suits of 2-6 cards which is 20 cards all adding up to numerical count of 20. Same for 10 - Ace adding up to -20. Those cancel out and your remaining 12 cards 7-9 have a zero value. A whole deck should be at zero when you are done running through. I hope that helps.

    What s the true count on 6 deck shoe when running count is +3?

    • @michaelbraun6504
      @michaelbraun6504 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Depends on how many decks have already been played and discarded. You divide the running count by the number of decks remaining to get a true count. For instance, if only one deck has been played then your +3 running count would mean a true count of 3/5 (or 0.6) If three decks have been played, +3 would be a True Count of 1 (b/c 3/3 =1)

    So do you always play basic strategy no matter what… I don’t know how to count cards but have had some some success playing BJ so idk if I count subconsciously or something because there will be times when I just KNOW what card or range of card is going to come out.. one time I hit a hard 17 because I just knew the dealer had 20 and pulled a 4. That got the pit bosses attention. Anyways had I played basic strategy obviously would’ve lost so as a card counter I would think you do veer off from basic strategy sometimes or no ??

      You should leave the table if the true count is -1.5 or -2 or even worse, because you gonna to make more money if you don't play this hands.
      You can use back counting if you want to just play hands with an edge.

    I see a problem when there is a negative to positive when you have positive number but you are still going from -4 to -3 when negative and when positive number going 4 to 5. there are 20 positive and 20 negative numbers in a deck. in single deck start with zero the plus or minus. it is much easier. double deck start with 40 and work your way up or down. for 6 or 8 deck start with 120 or 160.

    I think I am quiet decent at basic strat and counting but at the casino I am playing, they deal so fricking fast that I am not done counting when they already want my decision. This little brainlag looks really suspicios - in those cases, do you just stop counting, make your bet and then continue or does that mean I am just too slow at updating the running count?

    • @walkabout29
      @walkabout29 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      atXoR first you have to have basic strat down cold. Are you counting in pairs (canceling)? Its your money...dealer cant pass you up. Act like your thinking about your hand. But keep practicing

    • @kites-bikes
      @kites-bikes 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      walkabout29 I do have basic strategy down - I don't count pairs like per box - I actually take each card separated and either cancel it with next one or add it up, otherwise I would be even slower because I can use the "deal phase" - and sure, it's my money... But if I even hesitate for 3seconds with a 6-2, it will seem weird to everyone on the table

      I start my count when 1st base gets thier 2nd card. Soooo much faster. Thats how all the pros do it. Practice by dealing out 3 cards, face up, not looking. Then when you hit the 1st hand with the second card...start your count. K4 (ignor) 79 (ignor) etc. Dont get stuck in a habit. You have to change to get better.

      @Hater20X 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Like he said the best card counter dont really slowly on a shortcut. The most shure way to not lose a count is to do it the old hard fashioned way. Keep the count in your head. Because after a couple hours you could have been forced to do a million different things with your hands. If you seem static with hands under table you will quickly be under suspicion and backed off. No short cuts, learn to keep the count in your head. It because as easy as visualize a big ass number 3 in front of your face or whatever the count is.

    there's that ancient finger counting system, based on where your thumb nail touches your fingers. it's possible to do calculation with it, but that's irrelevant here, and i dont remember the name. :D
    to keep it simple: it's easy to mark a count between 0 and +/- 14 just on your index finger. (index + middle is easier though, using the middle finger for negative numbers) start at the center of the finger tip for "0" move up "1", advance half a phalanx "2", back towards the middle "3", to the crease "4", up the crease "5" so on.
    i may never play blackjack in my life. but this looks like such an obvious and easy method to NEVER forget the running count, without the compulsive distraction of constantly repeating a number in your head.
