    I’m a pit boss, also AP. I spent some time counting blackjack and remembering all the same things you describe. Driving around discovering places with a good cut or good rules. There are a lot of friendly counters out there, some like to talk about it, others don’t. Don’t be afraid of them, you can learn a lot. The thing with blackjack is it’s the easiest AP for the casino to spot. The heat involved is intense. Sounds like you need more cover play. If your getting those kind of reactions in 2 hour radius, you will quickly run of of places to play. The other thing with blackjack is it’s one of the worst return APs. Advantage slots, hole carding novelty game yield much higher, with far less variance. Best to learn these things while you still have a place to play. Oh and don’t get backed off in your local casinos. Spread smaller and try to become friends with the staff. Reserve aggressive play for out of town.

Even of the spread is $25-$75 that won't keep you from getting backed off. Then you're in the card counter databases that surveillance checks for any refusals and you can't play anywhere regularly. You're better off telling them it's not realistic and you will not be making a living counting cards. Even if there's an exciting youtube channel that pretends to.

      I have made a lot of money playing blackjack, as have a ton of people I know personally. I know multiple people that have made over $1M.
      You could say something like "It's hard to make money playing blackjack" or "it's not as easy as it used to be" but to say "You can't" is such an odd take.

    I worked in table games for 13 years. The best way to get past getting backed off is: when the count is neutral or close to even track your losses. If you lose 4 hands in a row and the count is neutral switch to a negative progressive system. Do it for 3 or 4 bets. This will throw surveillance off your scent. It will document you making bet increases at random counts. Its a small sacrifice to make to prevent getting backed off and it usually ends in a small profit.

But the gain was that this lowly peasant worker got to travel and put in hotels for free. That reputation helped in my promotions and eventually became a Bank Manager. Today that trick doesn’t work as banking has changed.

    • @stevesrun3
      @stevesrun3 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It depends, doesn't it. On the rules, the count, the bet spread. And on which "edge" you're talking about.
      "Our edge" could mean our overall edge for a specific game or our edge for a specific hand.
      Specific hand: If the count is incredibly high (+8 to +10) you may indeed have a 3-5% edge on that hand. I don't have the software to evaulate that exactly.
      Overall game: Never as high as 5% (unless I've been drastically misled). I suspect that Christian W and Janckson Kafe may have the best answers to "overall edge" in their commments.
      Note: If you have advance information (dearler accidently exposes the first card of your next hand, for example), that is huge. Colin has said that if your fist card is an Ace (not knowing the dealer's first card), your advantage for that hand is 50%, but that information is (usually) available only after you have placed your bet.

    I've watched all these videos. Great series, by theway. Anyway... I think I got this. The pit boss has someone in his ear. Security ("Upstairs") is keeping track of the count, and they keep the PB appraised of the count. Then PB sees unusual bets on the high count and BAM!, you're done. Looks like game over for anyone who wants to count cards at basically any casino. Again, Great Video Series! But I think it's as simple as that, and hard to count cards anywhere anymore.

    Something's been bugging me about the profit graph, how do you keep track of the EV? Do you somehow count the number of hands you play or estimate it in hindsight? And also, does the EV in that graph take into account the count or just the bet spread?

    • @stevenbridges
      @stevenbridges  2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Great question! EV is simulated at 100 rounds per hour. I crunch the numbers into the calculator for each game and it spits out the EV.
      These days I record things like rounds per hour more accurately. But at the time it was just an estimate.
