    I love Kylo. We don't get nearly enough villains that are just broken like that, driven entirely on fear, pain, shame, it makes him much more sympathetic, even when his tantrums could make him unbearable, they show he's a failed, frightened child with the galaxy on his shoulders.

      really? twin peaks over Jurassic Park?

    • @paisan8766
      @paisan8766 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yeah. Jurassic Park the original is classic film that raises great questions and is masterful for special effects and a high-quality high-concept movie, but the sequals are either kinda bad, or at best, fun blockbusters meant to capitalize on the franchise. Twin peaks was not only a mainstream hit and a cultural watershed almost 30 years ago, but withstood the test of time and came back (season 3 was amazing), is an esoteric/art house masterpiece in both its movie and TV form,; it is possibly the most intelligent cinematic property to ever be on TV, nevemind broadcast TV. It mastered several genres simultaneously. So yes, anything Twin Peaks trumps JP.

      Erica Sweeney I didn't have a huge problem with the story in that part just the way they did it. That casino really didn't belong and I think that's what pulls people away from that subplot

    • @rawkmode6315
      @rawkmode6315 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah, if there was one thing I would remove, it would be that casino bullshit. They could have used that time for more Luke-Rey stuff and more Reylo Force FaceTime stuff. Every time they pulled away from the island and Luke, Rey and Kylo, I was like, "Wait! No, go back!" They could have dumped the casino/slicer subplot and given us more insight into the Force.

    I personally felt that the mystery of Rey’s parentage was more of a means to put you in her perspective rather than her parents actually being prominent figures. Even she seems disappointed at the revelation because who wants to believe that they were sold and abandoned? Now that she has finally confronted the issue, Rey can move forward in her self discovery.

    Dropping the bombs during a SPACE battle. Dropping.Think about it. Also curving laser shots were top notch

    • @katsmack1963
      @katsmack1963 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I mean i know they were trying to show thag they were mortars of sorts but thats the only reason the chase drags on because they are firing mortars that are somehow arcing through space and they were too far away to be effective against their shields ....wouldnt a ball/beam of energy travel pretty much forever in space till it hits something and is absorbed? And really the only rrason for the chase was so the rey and luke storyline could have time to reconcile before they showed up to the group in the movie
      .....
      Disney made hux and the first order completely unable to destroy the the fleeing ships , they can track em through all the light speed jumps but cant destroy em because they are literally the vehicles that drive the plot in this movie
      And building a lightspeed engine is one thing but building a computer that would be able to compute all of that information fast enough for them to still be there when you get there i find that to be thrown in so they are always right behind them.....because its always been in starwars and many other sci fi shows that deal with lightspeed travel ...."if we can just make it past the star destroyers and their tractor beams we have a lightspeed course mapped out and we can escape to fight another day" bit they already did that in empire but The Emperor's biggest problem was he didnt have the flux capacitor like hux does

      If they were moving on a track off of the bombers, they would just keep moving in that direction, until stopped by another force... which was the Dreadnought... the lasers were idiotic though, why would they be curving and not straight like they always did before? The bombs aren't dropping at all, they are moving through space at the same speed they left the ship... there is no up or down in space, so the aren't dropping anywhere... they're just moving at the same rate they left the ship.

    • @JustSaiyan317
      @JustSaiyan317 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@dernvader6876 ok but at what point do the bombs fall through an invisible barrier that can hold gravity inside of a ship but the said bombs can fall right through it? I dont think you understand what gravity and lack there of is lol. Even if you say some dumb shit like "there's a force field" how in the fuck would the bombs not trigger when hitting the nonexistent force field? Fact is she literally opened a door leading to space lmfao really think about that.

    Think about the original trilogy. Palpatine was set up as a mystery dark ominous figure. We got nothing from him and was murdered by Darth Vader. Only years later in the Prequels did we get a complete back story. Why do we need to know who Snoke was when the story is about Kylo and Rey.

    I think we should have had grey jedis.
    Ben kills snoke, Rey distances herself from luke and both rey and ben approach each other.
    Even Yoda burns the fundaments of the old jedi dogma.
    I thought that a lot of the things in the movie pointed towards finding a middle point (the more power you gain from the dark side the more your alter grows), evil and good are invented words...
    Jedi supress their emotion, siths leave aside control completely.
    What if they learned from each other?
    Rey said that Luke had cut himself from the force but he clearly isn't, thus I concluded that he was in the middle point so rey couldn't see light in him but neither darkness.
    And also, the fact that the force allows Rey and Ben contact through lightyears away was a symbol of connecing Light and Dark.
    Besides, Rey's clothes get "greyer" while Ben's inner conflict connect him to a brighter side. When they were together they were stronger.
    Abandoning extremism and adopting a point of view where you confront your emotions instead of subressing them but without losing control would be better.
    Grey jedis FTW.

      Grand Admiral Thrawn yea mate i realized, great point, I was commenting on the direction I WISH it went.
      The classic "clear bad guy clear good guy" isnt the best. Moral complexitys where people learn from each other and evolve by explorong perspective, beyond the white and black characters is the direction it should have gone. Why bother making Ben a conflicted guy of not? But now hes a supreme leader amd its all gone to sheit.

      I don’t want Grey Jedi, but along the same lines of a medium between the force, I would love to see if they could do a splinter group for the Jedi called the Bendu (they don’t actually exist in cannon I’m just making this up based on established lore). In Rebels the Bendu is a force creature that exist between both the dark and light side of the force. Like that would be dope as fuck if that’s what Kylo Ren becomes (down with the Jedi and Sith). Like you could do this: Jedi become force ghost when they die, Sith become these kinda corrupted force ghost (like Darth Bane in the Clone Wars tv show) when like die, but because the Bendu are balanced in their use of the force they can become one with it when they are alive. And that would give them al these new force abilities, and open Star Wars (at least in the movies) to this morally Grey area.

  • @TheLakerOne
    @TheLakerOne 6 ปีที่แล้ว +177

    Well I didn't like it. It felt like in order to create shock value by defying our expectations, they changed directions so often, they themselves lost track of where they wanted to go with this movie. Leia dies! Leia doesn't die. The dark hole on Ahch-To is important to mythology! It really isn't. Snoke is the main antagonist of the trilogy! Snoke is dead. Kylo and Rey team up! Kylo suddenly wants to rule the galaxy. Finn dies! He doesn't. Luke sacrifices himself! Actually, he's just force projecting himself. Nevermind, he dies anyways.
    There are no new revelations about the force, no grey Jedi, Luke hasn't learned anything new and really just went into hiding after almost murdering his own family, becoming a total failure in the process, the First Order somehow took over the galaxy in a matter of days, and Rey has attained master-level skills without ever really training.
    I mean look, I really wanted to like this movie, and at times, I honestly did. But every time I became invested in one of the myriad themes presented to us, they did a 180 soon after, rendering any interest I might've had completely irrelevant. Combine this with basically every question that got us, the fans, excited after The Force Awakens, such as who Rey's parents are, who or what Snoke is, what Luke's been up to, where this trilogy and the Star Wars saga are ultimately headed, being answered in a, to me, really unsatisfying way, and you get the disappointment that's so widespread among the fanbase at the moment.
    Of course, high expectations can cause problems, no doubt about that. In this case however, Disney is to be blamed at least as much as anyone else, as they were the ones releasing the misleading trailers that led to us speculating so much. We, the fanbase, may be overly critical at times, and we may expect the world from everything Star Wars related, but on this one, it's not us wanting too much, it's Rian Johnson failing to deliver in my opinion. And I don't know if they can come back from this.

    • @Avarn388
      @Avarn388 6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Honestly, I blame LucasFilm for bringing in JJ Abrams and having his dumb mystery box. This is why I cannot stand them as they often create so much excitement and mystery that they can lead to unrealistic expectations. Now, to play devil's advocate; I also have to put a bit of blame on Rian Johnson, the director for ignoring that setup from Abrams. Because, yeah; I'm not a fan, but as a sequel to The Force Awakens, there should be some connective tissue. ESB and ANH had at the very least had connective tissue with Obi-wan and the characters.
      And this falls under The LucasFilm Story group. They dropped the ball. When RJ said he had little to not involvement from the Story Group that worried me. These guys needed to have stepped in and let him know that he needed to include some of the elements JJ had. Even if referenced briefly. Because, this is a trilogy after all. And to be honest, this ST had the potential to be more cohesive than the OT.
      Which yeah; I love the OT, but to me it isn't the best trilogy of all time. LOTRS kicks its butt tenfold.

    • @TheLakerOne
      @TheLakerOne 6 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      I disagree on JJ Abrams. I'm no fan of TFA by any stretch of the imagination, nor his take on Star Wars, but the mysteries he built up were about the only reason I came back and actually got excited about this movie. Well, at least until Rian Johnson came along and apparently wanted to try out how much Game of Thrones style surprises he could mix in with Lost season 6 style failing to deliver on said mysteries, forgetting he's directing the second, not the third movie of the trilogy.

    • @Avarn388

      John C Don't't count out RJ. We will see how LF handles him going forward. As for the twists, I disagree. I enjoyed them quite a bit as they were a nice subversion of the franchise. Namely, having a big, emperor like the bad guy. And really, the twists in my view are nothing like Lost season 6. Regardless, TLJ for me saved the Sequel Trilogy to where I am genuinely curious as to where it might head. That doesn't negate the issues I have with the movie or the story group, but as someone with low expectations, they were met.

    • @TheLakerOne
      @TheLakerOne 6 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      My issue isn't with the twists per se, some of them were done well. It's that they didn't follow through with most of them. Best example: Rey and Kylo team up after killing Snoke to battle the guards together - I really did love that, because the main protagonist and antagonist teaming up isn't something you see every day, it was unconventional and exciting. It was the first time I really liked these two characters, because it made them stand out from all the others, gave them something unique. Two awesome minutes later however, they completely ruin everything they just built up. Why? Because apparently, after freeing himself from Snoke due to being inspired by Rey, Kylo has fallen to the dark side completely. For some fucking reason. And of course, he now wants to rule the galaxy. This doesn't fit his character, at all, and has never been hinted at being his motivation, at any point, whatsoever. He had a lot of reasons for falling, his dysfunctional family, the stigma of being Vader's grandson, Luke's treatment, vying for power was never one of them. Furthermore, now, he's willing to kill Rey should she not join him in his bid for ruling the galaxy - This sudden change of mind was not only not hinted at, or given any explanation whatsoever for, but outright contradicts what just happened a few minutes ago and does not make any goddamn sense. And as if that still wasn't enough for one sequence, after that encounter, ruling the galaxy is pretty much all that's left of his motivations, aside from killing Luke and Rey, making him the completely one dimensional, purely evil villain he stood out for in TFA for not being.
      And that's the reason I don't like the movie. I would have been fine with it, had they picked one of these two directions and explained them well: Either he joins Rey, then go fucking through with it and accept all the problems that arise from turning the main antagonist into a protagonist, view them as challenges, breaking conventions and seeking out new ways is certainly never easy, but all the more exciting. Or, if you don't wanna do that, make him fall to the dark side completely but explain why he does so for Christ's sake. Show what changed his mind, make us understand, feel even why he let go of the light - Perhaps he thought Leia had betrayed him as well? Anything, but make up your goddamn mind, because you can't have it both ways and the story still working out.

      I wouldn’t mind Snoke dying if this was episode 9 and he had some established lore. I actually really like Kylo become supreme leader, but hate that it undercuts Snoke’s story.

    My problem with the movie was that it relied entirely on twists. There was not one single thing that viewers can hang onto. It is important for people to be able to take a side and root for it and a character. But literally nothing was certain! In the original trilogy we had luke who was ALWAYS a naive, energetic boy with a force sensitivity and learns along the way and his character grows with it. In the prequels we have obi wan who is a constant positive and wise force for the jedi and we could hold onto that character for grounding. This trilogy has NOTHING like that. Every foundation was immediately scrapped and shuffled around. Christ it was annoying

    54:41, I'm sure that others have mentioned it before, but DJ overheard Finn and Poe talking about Holdo fueling up the shuttles to leave the big ship. This happened when they were in hyperspace, right before getting to Snoke's ship. The camera even focuses on DJ's face for a few seconds. All that DJ told the FIrst Order was to scan for shuttles leaving the cruiser. They they just followed the shuttles to Crait.

    The more I nitpicked it, the more I loved it. You needed the Finn plan, Poe mutiny, and Rey's reach out to Kylo to fail. You have to fail to learn. Leia withheld info to teach Poe. Finn had to experience the world. I just wish Lando was at the casino.

    Holdo rushing hyperspeed toward the ship was not part of her plan....her plan was just filling the ships and leaving....which WAS a bad idea, because as you noticed, most ships got destroyed completely. She later realized that she had to improvised and came out with that idea.

I also think that is the audience having that expectation that Rey must have an important family connection worked well in terms of how she was so sure of that herself. We feel how she feels. Also Luke basically became yoda.

    I'm curious about how much Disney keeps pointing to the balance. They are slapping us in the face with it, even the Jedi logo in the cave is a Ying Yang symbol. Think about what Anakin's prophecy was, to bring balance to the force. When he was being raised there was thousands of Jedi and two Siths. At the end of episode III there are two Siths and two Jedi remaning, prophecy fulfilled. Even Snoke states that a power rose to challenge Kylo. When are they going to figure out if they keep raising more allies to their side that it will continue the wars. Is it possible for someone to master staying in the middle of Jedi and Sith and never be challenged?
