      @You tuber I'm not comparing the Finn character to any other. All i'm saying is that in The Force Awakens they set him up in a way that never payed off. It's not about getting what I wanted, it's about following through with an idea that was clearly stablished in the first movie. In regard to the characters you mentioned, Leia went from being a stubborn young lady to a full force user general of the rebellion. Palpatine was slowly revealed throughout the 3 movies and was the biggest influence in Return of The Jedi, and also he "died". Han Solo was diminished in the last movie after being central in the first 2. Finn came and went and did a lot of things, but having things to do doesn't make a character compelling, having an influence in the story does. He had none, even John Boyega who played him thinks so.

    Similar to the first 6 seasons of GoT, I feel like Force Awakens won’t be as appreciated for how good it truly is because of how poor the rest of the sequel trilogy was. People can point out the flaws of the plot being too similar to A New Hope, but if the rest of the sequel trilogy was a success then a lot more people would be praising the quality of this movie

Meanwhile, opinions on TFA range from "It' was good" to "meh" to "it was hot runny diarrhea." In no way does TFA compare to the first 4 or 5 seasons of GOT. Maybe more like season 6, when the show really started to slip.

    It showed Rey very early on in the Force Awakens being QUITE a skilled fighter already.
    As a girl essentially left alone in the harsh environment of Jakku to fend for herself, she was CLEARLY more than capable of defending herself in a hand-to-hand combat situation, I'd suggest even more so than Finn, given her particular back story.
    And, although it seems like EVERYBODY rather conveniently forgets, she is shown single-handedly taking out four or five of Unkar Plutt's henchmen with her staff thingy when he sends them after her to, "Follow the girl, GET that Droid!"
    It's pretty well established that this girl has sufficient self defence skills to not only survive but thrive as a lonely scavenger on a junkyard wasteland Planet, right off the top.
    When people are whining and complaining about her supposedly being, "too O/P," and listing all the disadvantages Kylo Ren was suffering during their fight, having just been shot by Chewie's bowcaster, having just fought Finn and having just killed his own Father throwing him way off balance, they seemingly always FORGET that Rey has HARDLY been portrayed up until then to be some sort of pushover or, "damsel in distress," at ALL ✌️

      There is a moment in the Kylo-Rey fight at the end of TFA where Rey does a thrust with her lightsaber and has this particular facial expression that immediatly reminded me of the Senate vs the Jedi + Windu in ROTS. I remember thinking “wow that was very Palpatine of her” and had the brief thought wondering if she was related to Palpatine, a thought I quickly discarded because it was kind of silly, wouldn’t make sense, and I could not imagine the studio following through with it.

      Did they know that Rey was gonna be a palpatine at the end of TFA by the way? It kinda takes away from the prediction if they hadn't decided on it yet, since they probably didn't foreshadow it. For me Last Jedi ruined it for me, I remember being annoyed after I left the cinema at how dumb it was, went no-where, changed characters so much. I didn't mind Rise of Skywalker too much because I already knew the trilogy was ruined and JJ had been backed into a corner and left with no material to work with so I always expected him to just do stupid garbage stuff to try and make a story. Its a bad film but I think JJ did what he could with a turd he was given.
      Rian however was given all this potential, like the guys said Force Awakens, although a soft remake, set up some great characters who could have had some interesting stories, he just fucked all over that, killed ones he didn't like and said they were pointless and left nothing to enjoy.

Last Jedi and rise of Skywalker May suck but this one is still a great movie.

    Abrahams knew he wasn't doing the next two so I feel that he set up a lot of different Avenues with Rey is she No one, palp, or Kenobi. Is Finn possibly force sensitive. Will Kylo be able to commit to the dark or turn to the Light. Will Poe be liked by the audience and be given a chance to return. Also Each OG character was suppose to have their own film. So force awakens was Hans film. TLJ was Lukes which is why hes built up in FA. Then TROS was Leias movie. Except Ryan Johnson liked 1 of those Avenues and went a separate route and it felt like he just made a Solo film rather than a trilogy film. Then the third wouldn't have connected at all with the third Directors script and they brought JJ back and he chose some of the Avenues he set up to finish it the best he could.

  • @Etticos.
    @Etticos. 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I think it’s important to realize when people said, “we want Star Wars to be like the original trilogy, not the prequels”, they meant more about the tone, visuals, and overall “feel”. They didn’t mean the plot.
    Also, I enjoyed this movie and was very hopeful for this trilogy when it came out. I really wanted to see Kylo gradually become good and turn into the hero as Rey gradually fell to the dark and became evil, being the villain in the last movie. This trilogy had so much amazing potential when it started.

    Some of the complaints I have about this film are film never lets you settle in, finn gets blood on his uniform and he quits the first order, then he rescues one, who he doesn't even know, a guy who the first order was very important for the first order to capture, how did they think they were going to get away with that. And they just become friends. I wish they would have developed finn more, you see that throughout the series, his waisted potential. Also who is mas, and how did she end up with Luke/anikins old lite Saber. Other than that, this film is still better than the other two, but by not taking their time with it it false a little short of greatness.

    George described Star Wars episode IV as a trick. He deliberately only had desert and Death Star as locations because of financial restrictions.
    This one had too many locations.
    The accidental genius of episode IV was limited locations. It felt like a much longer movie. The pace was so much better.
    I believe limiting locations and staying in them added so much to that.

    Talking about Finn relearning what it means to sacrifice for a friend in TLJ inst true. While wish Finn had more to do rewatching this movie recently made me realize why his arc in TLJ was so necessary. Finn only wants to help Rey in this movie. At the end when hes with Han he donst care about the resistance at all just helping Rey. That ots why it was necessary for him in TLJ to actually want to be a part of the resistance to understand why that was necessary. Thats what his arc in TLJ its about why his culminating moment in TLJ is calling himself Rebel Scum. And while I dont think it was the best done thing, rewatching this movie its evident why it was necessary. He becomes a part of the resistance in that movie instead of just chasing after Rey and not caring about the cause itself.

    watching the Force Awakens now feels like a missed opportunity like the hype for this movie was beyond imaginable like you haven't seen hype like this for a film since Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows parts 1&2 and even after the movie came out people were still talking about it cause it set up really good mysteries like who was Snoke, how did the First Order rose to power and who were Rey's parents and seeing all the old characters brought back on screen 30 years since Return of The Jedi was really awesome like seeing an old friend you haven't seen in like a really long time and though Luke was only in it in the last 10 minutes of the film it was really awesome seeing Luke and Rey just handing him the Lightsaber that was a perfect ending..... then Last Jedi came out and it derailed everything many questions set up in the previous film were either ignored or answered poorly and Luke while I personally liked his character in the movie I can see why a lot of people hated it lke you wanted to se Luke kick some ass but instead we got this old hermit who lost all hope and tried to murder his nephew the same guy who was able to see the good in one of the most evil men in the galaxy tried to murder his own nephew cause he was showing signs of being evil like really come on plus many character arcs were poorly realized like Finn he starts out as a Stormtrooper then later turns good only for him to the exact same thing in the previous movie and being reduced to a sidekick like that was the most disappointing things of this trilogy and Rey while there were complaints of her being a Mary Sue in the last film she becomes like the uber sue and don't get me wrong I like Rey to a certain extent but it really grinds my gears that she is able to do all these force powers without any training like Luke had to train for 3 years to become a Jedi while Anakin spent his entire childhood and adolescence to become a Jedi and even when he was powerful the Jedi council still didn't accept him as master. And the way they killed off Snoke was so anti climatic. Then Rise of Skywalker came out and while it was a fun and entertaining film it was really just Disney trying to make up their mistake from the last film and what resulted was a film that was poorly thought out and didn't make sense at all and was a disappointing finale to one of the greatest film sagas ever made. As my for my opinion I like the sequels as fun popcorn movies but they really didn't fit that well with the rest of the Star Wars movies.

They basically had little choice after that since Kylo's story was kind of a mess and they needed a big bad to follow. If Rian hadn't been such a contrarian jerk-off he would have had Rey join Kylo or something to make the story actually interesting and set something up for the last movie, but nah, he left them with nothing. Having Finn be comedic relief was a terrible call. Boyega even said he intended to play the role seriously. Having been brainwashed his whole life to be a soldier it just didn’t seem right for him to then be a walking punchline. Force sensitive storm trooper was an incredible idea that was completely ruined unfortunately.

      People liked it initially because it was a back to formula of the original trilogy. Love or hate the Prequels, it was very a very technology driven set of films, and it shows. The entire Tatooine/freeing Anakin scheme is there to lead to the podrace.

    When the force awakens came out, I was neither impressed nor bothered by it. But after a couple years of reflection and seeing what it led to, I’m of the opinion that it’s just as bad as the other two sequels.
    After all, this film set the tone and laid the foundation for everything that followed. Luke Skywalker? Hiding on some back water planet while the universe goes to $#!+. Han Solo? Deadbeat dad who bailed on Leia and his kid. Princess Leia? Failed politician who couldn’t keep the first order from rising back to power.
    Looking back, it’s painfully clear how much of a hurry Disney was in to push aside the heroes of the original trilogy and replace them with the new characters. And they couldn’t even think of a new storyline for these new characters, so they just retold a new hope beat for beat with them instead.

    • @jayhartRIC
      @jayhartRIC 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I always had my suspicions that she was a Palpatine even from episode 7. Noticed the similar fighting style back then. However, they could’ve still killed him off and had him obtain the ability to force ghost the same as Jedis do. And over the course of the next two movies, there would be this dialogue between the emperor and Ray and there would be conflict the point where she does join the Darkside for some sort of sacrifice. I don’t know they could’ve gone a direction that would’ve been approving as long as Palpatine was actually dead. I would’ve actually liked that. And lastly, why not have Ray created the same way Anakin was? And unknown virgin birth sort of thing.

      This is the fantasy genre, more specifically this is Star Wars. History repeats itself and thematic parallels are everywhere.
      Being an homage to a previous movie isn’t the worst sin ever. Evil Dead II is a near exact remake of its predecessor, Silence of The Lambs is basically the same plot as Red Dragon/Manhunter. Most sequels are the previous film done slightly different.

    Honestly, "The Force Awakens" is the movie I HATE the most from the Sequel Trilogy. I hated it when I first saw it, and my hatred towards it only grew as time went on. And the reason is what you start discussing around the 11:43 mark: Abrams' [CENSORED] Mystery Box.
    I mean... Seriously, if you had watched ANYTHING made by J. J. Abrams, I don't know how ANYONE could have had any hope that any of the Mystery Boxes that he dropped every 5 minutes of run time would have a satisfying answer. J.J. Abrams hasn't created a single mystery worth a damn after everything was said and done in his entire career. Why would he start with "Star Wars"?
    As the movie went on, and the mystery boxes were being piled up, I had nothing but a sense of dread. I KNEW there wasn't a chance in hell that the trilogy would have a satisfying development, let alone a good ending. So I have to furiously disagree with what you say there: No, this movie was NOT a strong foundation for a trilogy. It just wasn't.
    Heck, I know many will want to cut my throat and spit on my corpse for saying this, but screw it: the main reason why I actually like "The Last Jedi" is PRECISELY because he threw away all of J.J.'s mystery boxes to the trash, where they belong. I prefer Johnson's "subverting expectations" to J.J.s "(meaningless) Mystery box" every day of the week, twice on Sunday and 10 times on Friday.
