I miss him so much too. Had the pleasure of hearing him live on occasion. Remarkable timbre (even in pp and mezza voce), evenness of and constancy in sound production (in other words, beautiful legato), and free and open tone. Comments about deficiency of technique herein puzzle me, except that he doesn't sound like those that so "sing in the mask" that you can scarcely hear them. I go to the opera house to hear voices like this sing. Joan Sutherland and her husband, Richard Bonynge, as well as the great Leonard Bernstein, all thought highly of and ardently promoted Jerry. A truly tragic loss to all vocal fans.
Yes but that was 17 years in the Future. It HAS disturbed me - Life imitates Art? - Jerry identified perhaps too strongly with Werther.. But it's over now and one can only pray for the Peace of his beautiful Soul.
I happened to see his Werther (with Wendy White) at the New York City Opera in 1986 and to this day I consider it the most affecting and heartrending Werther I have ever seen -- and I have seen many. He simply WAS Werther and as an audience he owned us. A great artist whose fate was indeed tragic.
Jonas Kaufmann must listen what is a beautiful singing with own voice. This is wonderful. One of the best tenor ever with beautiful voice and fantastic techique.
I'm trying to remember something - I saw him sing Werther at NYCO in the mid 1980s and we knew we had witnessed an amazing performance - as well as one could at that horrid theater - and he got major good reviews for those performances and then he was called to make his Met debut a few days/weeks early to sub in as des Grieux in Manon at the Met because Leech or someone had cancelled and then my friend and I got there for standing room. How did we even find this out - before social media and such? That's what I'm trying to remember. Because we made it for his debut at the Met.
Hadley had such a glorious sound: I have a feeling of sadness, whenever I hear him! Oh, fellow- listeners/viewers, let us be quick to respond with compassion to anyone we know is suffering from some deep ear or pain! What is more tragic than that one should rather embrace death than face some dreadful event or sickness!
So sorry. Many suffers this. Depression steal life, unexpected from others. Maybe it was so hard for the person who in it. Everyone know someone similar story.

Fantastic performance. This singer had passion and in this recording, great technique, even though some people think that his voice was not free. This performance is at the level of the greatest. Period. And I was never a fan of Hadley.
Here he was not at his best. His voice is not relaxed here. He was tired perhaps? Anyway, he is one of the greatest lyric tenors of all time. Whoever think Jerry's voice was not free knows nothing about operatic singing! Hadley had a solid technique. You cannot judge a singer based on just one performance. Even the greatest singers cannot be 100% all the time. At his best, Jerry Hadley was up there with the best of them!
@@Verist4 You are preaching to the choir. Why are so many people trying to convince me of something I already said in my comment? Jerry sang fantastically until he started not singing fantastically. Why, I don't know, but, from a singer point of view, no singer changes his technique if the current one is working. When things, by what ever reason, start not working, then, start the search for the panacea, and hell falls on to you.

This aria sounds especially tragic, when you think about his fate. R.I.P.

Rip Jerry
May God bless your soul.
We miss you a lot.
Pure class, this man is superb.
My favourite interpretation of one of my favourite arias! Just, wow! That "Helas!"! My god!
same here ❤️
The most beautiful thing I have ever heard from his mouth. Oh goodness.
Wonderful interpretation of this great aria by Late Mr. Jerry Hadley.
Thanks for the upload.
With great control and expression
I saw him in Louise at SF Opera with Renee Fleming. Unforgettable night ! RIP Jerry
Wonderful singer!! Free voice...
Jerry moves me to tears every time. Probably the most tragically expressive tenor of all times. What a gorgeous voice, too
Dear Jerry, you are now reunited with our beloved Mr. Miller singing praises to God!
Hugely underated Tenor RIP
I miss him SO much😕 Thank you for sharing this.

Bravo fraseggi e acuti e la dolcezza di una. Cascata che scorre dolcemente Baritono Francesco ❤
That is ringing tones! What an incredible generous tenor!

@@EmilyGloeggler7984 What is wrong with Wmotion? Singing is communicating Thought and Emotion. Jerry is EXPRESSIVE - never ever CRUDE.
How was his Voice not freely produced? Listen. Ignore people who are ignorant or envious

Bravo!! de los mejores!!
Chiaroscuro!
Sounds so beautiful, so tragic.
I don’t understand comments about poor technique here!
💖💖💖🎼
auch er hatte die Träne in der Stimme!!!
감사합니다

Such tragic beauty
Wow,Wow,Wow !!!
Wow
The real deal.
What's that crackling sound at the end of the first time through (sounds like vinyl)?
Great singer, great voice!
I'd kill to be in that audience
Bien interprété . R i .P.
Bravo!
Belle interprétation malgré les difficultés de la prononciation du français..Voix lyrique de belle qualitéEluz
Maravilloso.
Way to go Jerry
😢
Очень красиво
Golden Silk.
Не понимаю восторженных откликов. По-моему, зажатый голос. Да и верхние ноты какие-то "недоделанные", сплюснутые.

Ti piace lo Pinkerton e core n grato di Hadley?

Hadley ?
bellissima voce, tecnicamente poco perfetta ...
I expected better.
Not a relaxed, free voice
I beg to differ. Kaufman is an example of a “not relaxed or free” voice.
Ignorant comment
I'm sure Tomba could do better.
He didn't come back to defend his viewpoint figures
@@feelsforjameel1397 Nope. Check the bootleg recordings, with emphasis on the word bootleg.
