In this video, Dr. Berg answers the question, is potassium good or bad for your kidneys. It really depends on how well your kidney works, like if you have stage 5 kidney failure or renal failure where you only have 10% of your kidney working, you need to avoid potassium because the kidney doesn’t have the ability to get rid of potassium and other nutrients anymore that could lead to hyperkalemia.
    Symptoms of Hyperkalemia
    • Nausea
    • Weak
    • Slow Pulse
    • Tingling
    • Numbness
One of the complications of being a diabetic is you lose the kidney function but if you are healthy and you have enough potassium is protective for the kidney especially if you’re a diabetic.
    Benefits of Potassium
    • Protects the kidney
    • Help establish normal blood sugars
    • Makes insulin work well in the body
    • It can lower blood pressure
Functions of Potassium: Nerves / Muscles / Fluid / Energy

Ka will lower BP, but afraid to take it for fear of Ka accumulation. My own kidney doctor didnt' help at all and like many allopathic doctors are not particularly
informed. I will now carefully consumer more Ka and see if my stubborn high BP will go down. Thanks again Dr Berg for this very important distinction.

Cream of tartar has very low solubility compared to potassium chloride (No Salt). So I think the latter is better if you're going to prepare a solution and not have to drink it all while stirring constantly. To me, potassium chloride doesn't taste salty at all, so I just shake at bit of it onto whatever I am preparing when I add sodium chloride.

Dr. Berg can you cover lipodermacerosis, and venous problems. I know lower leg discoloration could be from thyroid issues, which you said a long time ago. But as I have said before I have had varicous veins since I was six to eight years of age. I believe childhood vaccines caused weakened veins, along with electric frequency sensitivities. So how would one go about putting strength back into the veins? Is it even possible? Should I just look forward to the miseries of the lipoderma, and let it happen? Dr Berg, my wife has a kidney disease, is the keto diet to much potassium for her? If so what should she be eating instead?

Does potassium chloride (salt substitute) respond the same as eating a potassium rich food?

I saw that the RDA recommendations for potassium have been changed. I see that the requirements drop as you age. If over 51 years of age, you only need 3100 mg of potassium a day. I assume this is because your kidney function declines with age. Can you comment on this new advise.

    Great video.
Is there anyone that can exactly explain the difference in symptoms between Hypokalemia and Hyperkalemia?
I am on Keto now and what happened is that I am having constantly constipation, even before Keto, and then I drank a lot of warm water which made me go to the toilet but I also peed a lot.
That I suppose made me loose a lot of electrolytes and then the symptoms of numbness, tingling and muscle twitching began. You would consider this is Hypokalemia but here in this video Dr. Berg mentions these symptoms for HYPERkalemia.
Next morning I bought 600mg Potassium chloride slow release pills and after a few meals and taking one with a meal happened very similar thing, in a matter of seconds, 20 min after taking a pill the next day. I concluded now I have to much! It was very similar and I didn't sleep that night.
Now I am totally confused, how can I actually know do I have hypokalemia or hyperkalemia?
For two weeks everything was fine and then I was riding a bicycle, very low intensity, and when I came home it started again.
I didn't take any pills because I am confused do I have HYPER or HYPOkalemia. I hope I don't have addison's or kidney problem...
I don't have health insurance so every help is welcome.
    Thank you.

If I weigh less than 110 lbs, do I still need that much potassium?? What do you think about potassium supplements? I don’t trust the soils are good enough to get enough potassium from veggies.

How to put a question for him?
I am confused about vitamin and mineral "SUPPLIMENTS" being less effective than natural ones.......
Are they chemically different from natural sources?
    Or something else....?

M M islam they are probably synthetic vitamins, lab created so the body probably won’t absorb them as well as naturally sourced vitamins

“Jun. 1, 2016 · Because of this potential danger, the FDA limits over-the-counter potassium supplements (including multivitamin-mineral pills) to less than 100 milligrams (mg). That's just 2% of the 4,700 mg recommended dietary intake for potassium.” Has the FDA revised or updated this recommendation?

Dr. Berg, what do you think about the accuracy of Heavy minerals test- HMT- I have used it and it seems accurate for analyzing my metabolism , however I am skeptical about believing the whole report. They mentioned that my Iron in my tissue is so high (I am on Keto) however, my recent blood work - which happens to be at the same time- is showing normal level of iron. Any thoughts? I stopped all rich iron food including red meat based on this!!
